Anne Burrell reflected on settling down with her husband after ‘living the rock star chef life' before her death
Anne Burrell shared insight into her life months before her tragic death on Tuesday. The celebrity chef was found unresponsive in the shower at her home in Brooklyn, New York before being pronounced dead at the scene at age 55, police said. Just three months prior, Burrell went on Tori Spelling's 'misSPELLING' podcast, where she dove into marrying her husband Stuart Claxton in 2021. 'From when I was a kid, I don't know why, but I always was like, I am not getting married until I feel like I have something in life to share,' Burrell explained, 'until I have accomplished stuff.' Along with a husband, Burrell also gained a stepson Javier. 'Kids were never on my radar, really,' the cook confessed. 'I love being an aunt. I have nieces and nephews. It seems like it's been four minutes. I don't know if it's a honeymoon [phase] but I feel like it's settled into married life days which I really enjoy.' In honor of Valentine's Day in 2022, the step-mom gushed over her other half, penning, 'You make me the happiest girl in the world!!! I love you to the moon and back my sweet!!!' ''This is really going to be real and this is going to turn into something.'' 'I was always really focused on my career and marriage was never a huge thing in my life that I was looking for. Then when I met Stuart, my opinion about all that changed.' Giving followers glimpses into their lives over the years, Burrell posted a month after their wedding, in a 2021 Thanksgiving post, 'A new home, a wedding, a stepson, great family, great friends, good health, great fans and just so much more!!! 'I have to say, I love being married,' Burrell told People in 2023. 'We're together all the time because Stuart works from home. It's the being together all the time, but it's also the adventure together.' 'It's been wonderful, to say the least,' echoed Claxton. 'Anne and I hadn't lived together before we moved in and got married, so it's been a whole adventure, but very lovely at the same time.' A cause of death has yet to be revealed. Burrell is best known for hosting 'Worst Cooks in America' on Food Network for 27 seasons, from 2010 to 2024. After her passing, a representative from Food Network shared with The Post: 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent — teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Both ladies paid tribute to Burrell, with Ray, 56, writing in part, 'I'll miss her friendship deeply. Everyone whose life she touched will miss her. Sending love to Stuart and everyone who knew and loved Anne. We've lost someone truly special.' Guarnaschelli, 55, noted in her own post, 'Make this moment about her. She'd want you to go out, raise a glass, sing karaoke (including this Sia song–one of her favorite 'Worst Cooks' warm up songs) and be able to say, like she does, #ilovewhatido –so do it for her. Anne Burrell's TV co-star reveals their heartbreaking final conversation
Anne Burrell's Food Network co-star Melba Wilson has spoken out about her death, legacy, and their last conversation which came just a week before her death. Burrell, best known for hosting the Worst Cooks in America show and the Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, was found unconscious in her New York home's shower early on Tuesday morning by her husband Stuart Claxton, it is reported. She was later pronounced dead when the emergency services arrived. Her cause of death has not been confirmed, but according to the US outlet and the Daily Mail a rep from the NYC Fire Department said the incident was reported to them as a cardiac arrest. While Burrell has been remembered as a 'beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend' in a heartbreaking statement from her family, her industry friends are also mourning. 'This is a tough time for so many of us that knew Anne and that loved her. It was totally unexpected. So to hear yesterday that she's no longer with us is devastating,' New York City restauranteur Melba told TMZ. Opening up about her last conversation with Burrell, which came a week before her death, Melba explained: 'It was fine. We talked about karaoke. We loved karaoke. Anne loved games, she loved backgammon. We always went out to dinner, and did karaoke.' She continued: 'It's just shocking. It's unbelievable to know that someone so vibrant and full of life is no longer with us. '[Burrell] was at my birthday party a month and a half ago dancing; she loved to dance. Any type of music. Her and her husband Stuart were there and had an amazing time.' Asked whether Burrell has mentioned being sick to Melba, the Food Network star explained that she 'never mentioned anything' about that, which is why her death was 'such a shock'. Melba also described Burrell as being able to light up any room, and said her legacy was laughter. 'Her legacy is laughter. Anne always laughed. She always wanted to teach. She's a fierce competitor,' Melba shared. 'The food industry is full of men, and Anne would go toe-to-toe with the best of them. She always wanted to win. She was always very loving, very giving.' When cops arrived at Burrell's home, they found her dead with dozens of pills scattered next to her body, sources told The New York Post on Thursday. Burrell's cold body was reportedly found on the shower floor by her husband, several hours after he had last seen her alive. The Food Network star was found unresponsive in the bathroom by her husband, Stuart Claxton, on the morning of Tuesday, according to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ on Wednesday. Shocking New Details Claxton had reportedly last seen Burrell around 1 a.m., and found her body "between six and seven hours later." Burrell's cause of death has not yet been revealed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, as the investigation remains underway. However, the 911 call has suggested a potential cause of death, as the New York Fire Department confirmed to the Daily Mail that they were responding to a cardiac arrest report on Tuesday. Burrell's family later released an emotional statement confirming her sudden death, though they also chose not to disclose the cause. "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered," their statement read. "Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world," the family added. "Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal." The Food Network also paid tribute to the celebrity chef in an emotional statement. "Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring," a representative for the network told The New York Post. Burrell shot to fame with her appearances on various cooking shows, including "Iron Chef America", "Chef Wanted", and "Chopped." She received an Emmy nomination for her hit show "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef", which aired for nine successful seasons. Most recently, she appeared on an episode of the culinary competition series "House of Knives". Beyond her television career, Burrell was also an author. Her first cookbook, "Cook Like a Rock Star", released in 2011, became a New York Times bestseller. In the photo, she's seen smiling alongside New York City icon Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, famously known as the Green Lady of Brooklyn. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!!" Less than a week before her untimely death, Burrell also spent time with fellow chefs Franklin Becker and Elizabeth Falkner at Soho House. After hearing the news of her death, Becker — known for his appearance on "Top Chef Masters" — shared photos from their recent evening together. "I am stunned... I just had dinner with Anne and Stuart the other night at Elizabeth's pop up. We were making karaoke plans together. I simply cannot believe this. Anne was a gifted chef and a friend.
