Prepare action plans in a week to increase enrolment for PMJJBY and PMSBY, MP tells banks
With poor enrolment in the two social security schemes of the Union government, Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta on Friday asked banks to prepare an action plan each within a week to increase the enrolment. The schemes in question are Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). Speaking at the District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District-Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting for banking development in the district, Capt. Chowta said that the action plans should be submitted to Lead Bank and the committees headed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the zilla panchayat. Capt. Chowta said that banks should take an initiative beyond their business interests to enrol people in the government's social security schemes. 'The enrolment should be conducted on a mission mode,' he said, expressing dissatisfaction over some banks making only 20% and 40% progress. Banks should take special interest to ensure that social security schemes of the government reached all people, he said and added: 'Go beyond call of your duty.' 'It just requires taking consent of bank customers for enrolling in the schemes while visiting the branches. Later, banks need to take only a signature of customers for enrolment,' the Member of Parliament said. He asked the bankers: 'Are you facing any problems [in enrolling customers to the schemes] ?' The question, however, did not elicit any response from bankers. K. Anandh, CEO and chairman of the committees, asked bankers to be proactive in implementing government schemes, especially those meant for vulnerable sections of society. 'When not shown interest in achieving progress while implementing government schemes, it meant that you are drifting away from your social responsibility,' the CEO told bankers. Dr. Anandh asked bankers not to harass individual members of self-help groups (SHGs) for sanctioning loans of up to ₹2 lakh under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) by pressuring them to produce business plans and quotations. The RBI has exempted individuals from producing those documents for sanctioning loans of up to ₹2 lakh. An NRLM official informed the meeting that complaints have been received from Canara Bank, insisting that the documents be submitted in Sullia and Konaje. The meeting was held to review the performance of banks in the district for the fourth quarter of 2024-25. According to the statistics provided by Lead Bank in the meeting, banks enrolled 39,917 accounts under PMJJBY and 117,237 accounts under PMSBY in the year from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The banks opened 24,516 accounts under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and 44,648 savings bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), which are other social security schemes, in the last financial year.

MP to hold ‘Yoga with Soldiers' at Someshwara Beach
Mangaluru: In celebration of International Day of Yoga , a 'Yoga with Soldiers' event will be held at 3pm on June 21 at the scenic Someshwara Beach, one of Dakshina Kannada's renowned tourist spots, said Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta. Capt Chowta has invited the public to participate in the session. Following the proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga. This year's theme for the 11th International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' highlighting yoga as a beneficial practice for our health and holistic development, he said. "To promote tourism in Dakshina Kannada, the 'Yoga with Soldiers' event was organised at various tourist destinations in the district. Last year, it was successfully held at Sasihithlu, known for adventure water sports. This time, preparations are under way to conduct the yoga session at the historic Someshwara Temple Beach," the MP said. Someshwara Beach captivates everyone with its majestic allure. Our hope is that this enchanting tourist and religious site will attract even more visitors globally. This is a small effort to introduce our tourist destinations to the world. Capt Chowta has urged local social media influencers, media representatives, and the public to visit, create high-quality content showcasing the beauty of this location, and encourage more tourists to visit. The 'Yoga with Soldiers' event will also see participation from local achievers, sports personnel, ex-servicemen, lifeguards, social workers, and other dignitaries, with interested individuals encouraged to join, he added.

BJP to stage protests at 399 locations in Dakshina Kannada on June 23 against Congress govt's 'anti-people' policies
MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada BJP will hold protests simultaneously at 399 locations in the district to oppose the anti-people policies of the Congress govt in the state. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta told reporters here on Tuesday that protests will be held in front of all the 223 gram panchayats, two city municipalities, three town municipalities, eight town panchayats, and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on June 23. 'The party decided to hold simultaneous protests to draw the govt's attention to various demands of the people. Elected representatives from the BJP have been raising various issues at the KDP meets, legislature sessions, and submitted memorandums to the ministers. Since the govt has not responded to the demands, the party has decided to unite people to launch a massive protest,' he said. People in the district are not able to construct houses due to confusion regarding Form 9 and 11 pertaining to their land. The govt should simplify the process as people are pushed from pillar to post to get building plans at present. Meanwhile, applications submitted by farmers for regularisation of land under Akrama Sakrama were being rejected even without bringing the matter to the notice of the respective Akrama Sakrama Samitis headed by MLAs, the MP said. 'Officials have been rejecting Akrama Sakrama applications unilaterally as part of an anti-farmer policy of the govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Had No Idea Why Boyfriend Wanted Her To Shower Twice Daily, Until She Met His Mom BimBamBam Read More Undo Those farmers, who have been protecting the kumki land from the land mafia, have no protection,' he said. The Congress govt has failed to sanction houses under the Ashraya Scheme to the poor. Each gram panchayat was sanctioned 50 to 100 houses under the scheme during the BJP tenure, he said, demanding at least 100 houses should be sanctioned in each gram panchayat under the scheme. Denial of pension for senior citizens under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme is another major lapse of the govt. In fact, the govt is trying to snatch the benefits under various social security schemes to cover up the loss caused to the exchequer due to corruption, he alleged. The govt has even failed to provide relief to families affected by rain damages in the district. 'The issue will be raised during the next KDP meeting to be chaired by District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao,' he added.
