Jets' Running Back Trio Gets Little 2025 Faith From PFF

Jets' Running Back Trio Gets Little 2025 Faith From PFF originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is no secret about how the New York Jets offense will roll in 2025 with Tanner Engstrand and Justin Fields. Advertisement They want to run the ball. With a solid offensive line in front of Fields and a trio of running backs in Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis, New York has all the pieces to have a decent run game in 2025. But decent is all they might get according to Pro Football Focus, which, when ranking all 32 teams' run games ahead of 2025, has the Jets at No. 17. "The Jets' running back unit appears to be at a crossroads with Breece Hall entering the final year of his rookie contract," Pro Football Focus writes. "Hall has flashed brilliance throughout his career but turned in a career-low 62.0 PFF overall grade last season due to issues with fumbles and drops. Advertisement "Braelon Allen showed some promise as a rookie, posting an 82.0 PFF rushing grade. Fellow rookie Isaiah Davis earned a 76.6 PFF rushing grade, though he took just 30 carries." Hall hasn't hit 1,000 yards in any of his three seasons, Allen is purely a backup at this point in Year 2, and Davis is largely an unknown commodity. So we are purely projecting here, and with Hall in a contract year, despite the Jets stating they will use all three backs, Breece should be getting the majority of the carries. As things stand, the Jets having a middle-of-the-pack run game feels about right, as they ranked 31st for yards per game last season (91.8). So until they prove they can consistently rack up yards, the jury will be out on the trio being anything other than a so-so group. Advertisement Despite the potential being obvious. Can Jets' 'Biggest Question' Be Answered In 2025?

Can Jets' 'Biggest Question' Be Answered In 2025? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets this offseason have been moving in silence under head coach Aaron Glenn, with the franchise adding some nice pieces on both sides of the ball to usher in this new era. Advertisement One such player is Justin Fields. The fifth-year quarterback comes to the Big Apple looking to reignite his career in what is perhaps his last chance at being an NFL starter, or at least showing he deserves to be. Nick Shook has liked the Jets' offseason, but Fields looms as the biggest question mark. "I've loved the Jets' approach since they hired Aaron Glenn as their new coach in January," Shook wrote. "The big question mark is Justin Fields , a quarterback who needs to prove himself now that he's with his third NFL team in as many years. Then again, this feels like his best opportunity to do so, compared to previous situations in Chicago and Pittsburgh." Justin Fields and the Tony Fisher With a stout offensive line, a trio of running backs led by Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson as his go-to weapon, Fields does have plenty to work with. Advertisement He's got a clear runway in 2025 without the fear of Tyrod Taylor usurping him in training camp — Fields is the starter. That in itself might create a sense of calm for a player who knows time is running out to prove his worth as a starter. And he will get that chance under offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who will try to implement the same type of run game he had in Detroit with the Jets. If he can, Fields will have a good run game to fall back on, while being able to play within his means and hopefully lead the Jets to a better record than last season. But the biggest question is, can he? Glenn Clears Air on Breece Hall Trade Rumors

Glenn Clears Air on Breece Hall Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Jets running back Breece Hall has had a rollercoaster of a tenure in East Rutherford. Between inconsistencies at quarterback and offensive line, a major knee injury, and his recent struggles, Hall is in murky waters with the fanbase. Advertisement The front office and coaching staff, though, seem to be very high on Hall, even with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Adams earning significant praise. Several factors have made Hall expendable via trade. Paramount is his decline from near-elite back to a non-needle-moving starter. He's also entering a contract year, didn't separate himself from the rest of the backfield, and has enough potential to get teams interested. Nevertheless, the team isn't keen on trading him. Head coach Aaron Glenn addressed the Jets' trade rumors surrounding Hall. 'Hall's name surfaced in trade rumors around the draft,' Rich Cimini wrote. 'It got so loud that Glenn called Hall to put his mind at ease. According to Hall, Glenn told him, 'I don't want to trade you. I want you to be here. You're going to be our running back.' Advertisement 'The Jets want to be a run-oriented offense, so it wouldn't have made sense to trade their most accomplished back. It could be a different story around the mid-season trading deadline. If they fall out of contention, Hall will be a prime candidate to be dealt. We already know how much Glenn likes Allen and Davis.' Glenn looks to be on the right side of his roster, especially the stars that the team could look to extend. That starts with receiver Garrett Wilson and corner Sauce Gardner but extends to Hall. With that said, there could be a gap between Hall, who at his best is capable of setting the market, and his current trend. If negotiations go south, the rumor mill will continue to churn. It's also worth noting that quarterback Justin Fields should be a massive upgrade for Hall, allowing the Jets to run the ball more and weaponize the passer's gravity. He's in line for a rebound, and it would be quite timely for the running back. Advertisement If all goes well, there's a world in which New York extends him. However, trading Hall is a conversation New York must have if the offense sputters before the trade deadline. For now, the Jets have no losses to their name and an incentive to make their stars happy. Until that changes, New York shouldn't be expected to sell off any significant player. Jets' Breece Hall Ready To Cash In On 'Potential' After Taking 'Blame'

Jets' Breece Hall Ready To Cash In On 'Potential' After Taking 'Blame' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Jets running back Breece Hall is one of the most talented backs in football, but he doesn't have the stats to back it up in his first three NFL seasons. Advertisement Breece has yet to hit 1,000 yards or have more than five rushing touchdowns in a season, which, for any great back, are two statistics that are usually far higher. But after a season where he, along with most of the offense under Aaron Rodgers, failed miserably, Hall is ready to put that behind him as he copped a fair share of the blame for the offense's inconsistent form. 'It's always frustrating when you're not as a team and then individually when you're not winning games and playing as well as you expect,' Hall said. 'Then after that, there's always somebody to blame or somebody that blame gets puts on, and a lot of it just so happened to be on me. "So it was like okay, just get back to the drawing board, get back to working hard. I know what I can do, the potential I have, but potential only goes so far. I want to be a [finished] product, to be able to say that I've done everything I wanted to do.' New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) reacts as he talks to running back Breece Hall (20).Brad Penner-Imagn Images Set to be part of a three-back system under Engstrand with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, Breece won't be the No. 1 bellcow he has been for his first three seasons. Advertisement That isn't ideal when you're fighting for a new contract, and to show the new regime you deserve to be the top dog. But Hall is putting his head down and getting to work as he looks to put a poor 2024 season (876 yards, five touchdowns) behind him, and hit the ground running under Engstrand. There is no denying Breece's potential as an NFL running back, but is 2025 when that potential manifests itself into something tangible? His Jets future might depend on it. Commanders Trade Of Terry McLaurin Would Be Major Step Backward

Commanders Trade Of Terry McLaurin Would Be Major Step Backward originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Let's be clear: The contract-dispute solution for a Super Bowl contending team like the Washington Commanders is not to dump one of their best players. Advertisement The solution is to sign him ... and that very much applies to Terry McLaurin. McLaurin has been a holdout as he seeks a contract extension for his desired price. ... which we bet is in excess of $30 million per year. A deal is not immediately forthcoming. What is? Media trade speculation. Bleacher Report is offering up a doozey as they believe the Commanders could entertain a blockbuster trade idea to replace McLaurin with another "star.'' The centerpiece idea? Washington loses its No. 1 receiver ... and gets running back Breece Hall from the New York Jets. And we can't figure out why anyone would hit the "like button'' on that. Advertisement Hall in in the final year of his cheap rookie deal, and when healthy has shown explosiveness. But as they usher in a new era of Jets football, word is he's going to be part of a "committee'' approach at running back. That means he's semi-expendable to them ... Something that isn't the case with McLaurin here. B/R writes, "McLaurin could be particularly valuable to Fields, who has shown himself to be an elite scrambler ..'' That's true - and it's exactly what Washington thinks about the McLaurin/Jayden Daniels pairing. In this fantasy swap, Washington gives a fifth-round pick and gets a second-rounder. ... and they get only a modest upgrade to their existing Brian Robinson Jr.-led running backs room. Advertisement In the end, New York shouldn't do this because they're not in "shoot their shot'' mode as a franchise ... while Washington can't do this because with McLaurin, that's exactly the mode in DC.
