Sky Sports will NOT renew lucrative Boxxer deal when it expires this month - as the four-year exclusive deal between the broadcaster and promoter Ben Shalom comes to an end
Sky Sports will not renew boxing promoter Ben Shalom's lucrative deal when it expires at the end of this month. Mail Sport understands conversations remain ongoing about future collaborations between the broadcaster and Shalom, whose Boxxer company were plucked from relative obscurity in 2021 and handed a £36million, four-year contract in the wake of Sky's split from Eddie Hearn. But with Boxxer's arrangement expiring on June 30, multiple sources have confirmed Shalom's outfit will not be retained on an exclusive basis. Their final scheduled show of the existing deal was Callum Simpson's European title with Ivan Zucco in Barnsley on Saturday (June 7). Sky Sports declined to comment. A Boxxer spokesperson said: 'Boxxer has enjoyed a hugely successful partnership with Sky Sports in our first broadcast cycle, delivering a series of groundbreaking events and establishing as the UK's fastest-growing and most innovative boxing promoter. 'We are approaching the start of a new broadcast cycle and look forward to making a formal announcement very soon.' It is understood that while Sky Sports are still in discussions with Boxxer, their future strategy will likely see them pick up individual rights for big fights from a range of promoters. Shalom's tenure has not been short of incident, which has included scrutiny of Boxxer's links to the convicted cricket spot-fixer Mazhar Majeed, who advises Boxxer fighter Chris Eubank Jr. There have also been eyebrows raised within boxing about the quality of Boxxer's cards, though Sky sources insist they were satisfied, citing the recent Eubank Jr bout with Conor Benn and Kell Brook's 2022 clash against Amir Khan.

Adam Azim's fight CALLED OFF just hours before opening bell after rival Eliot Chavez's ILLEGAL method to make weight
ADAM AZIM's showdown with Eliot Chavez has been cancelled just hours before the walk-ons. The pair were due to fight on the undercard of Callum Simpson's European title fight in Barnsley tonight. 2 2 Azim, 22, boasts an unbeaten record and secured the IBO light-welterweight title in February. He took Saturday's fight at short notice after beating former world champion Sergey Lipinets. But Chavez was left in hot water after it emerged he'd used a sauna to make weight. Promoters Boxxer said in a statement: "The British Boxing Board of Control has withdrawn permission for Eliot Chavez to face Adam Azim tonight in Barnsley following concerns raised by the Mexican Boxing Commission relating to Chavez's use of a sauna to make weight - a practice that is prohibited by the board." Azim immediately reacted on social media, posing an angry face emoji. One fan sympathised: "Sorry to hear that champ. Was looking forward to it." While another said: "This is what happens when you fight someone on like a week or two notice." Chavez went nine rounds with Harlem Eubank in 2022. And Azim was hoping to use the bout to show off his credentials in the division. The 22-year-old declared he would fight anyone on a week's notice - even two-weight world champ Devin Haney. Three-weight world champion Vasily Lomachenko retires after more than 400 FIGHTS in lengthy video Azim, 22, told Sky Sports: "I would fight Haney next week. "I just feel he's moving around more and doesn't want to initiate attacks. "He is a top-level fighter but I don't think he's the same fighter that he was before. "If he's running on the backfoot, throwing one jab every two rounds, why not? "For me I can fight front foot and back foot. "Haney, I think he's got enough power just to keep someone off, but I don't think he has that one-punch power. "But I think if I was going to fight him I think I'd beat him with speed." Tonight's main event at Oakwell sees Simpson face Zucco for the European super-middleweight championship. The pair are expected to ring walk in South Yorkshire around 9.30pm.

Ben Shalom calls for changes to be made for Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn rematch
Chris Eubank Jr 's promoter Ben Shalom believes any rematch with Conor Benn should be staged at a higher weight. Eubank Jr and Benn continued a family feud turned into personal battle at the end of April, the two exchanging heavy blows in what has quickly become a British classic. Despite ending up as the victor, Eubank Jr was taken to hospital after the fight, having aggressively boiled down in an attempt to make the 160lb mark. 'Next Gen' failed to reach the middleweight limit, and was further restricted from going back up in weight due to a 10lb rehydration clause. Whilst Boxxer promoter Shalom does not believe the rehydration clause was as big a limiting factor, he wants the contracted rematch to be held at a higher weight division. He told Sky Sports: 'The rehydration clause is probably less dangerous than the 160lb limit now at this stage in his career. That's where probably it's the biggest challenge. As the organisers of the event, everyone has to be sensible as to how we approach the second fight. That probably was the one downer on the event, all the talk about the weight. And so I'm sure everyone will be sensible.' Eubank Jr's father, the legendary former boxer Chris Eubank Sr, had been a vocal critic of the weight, with Benn jumping up two divisions from welterweight for the fight. While Eubank Sr made amends with his son on fight night, walking into the ring with Eubank Jr, the former two-division world champion has continued his comments about the weight on his YouTube channel. Restarting, Shalom shared: 'I think that would alleviate a lot of people's concerns about the fight. I think everyone involved just wants the fighters to make as much money as they can but get out of the ring safely. That's what's boxing's about and so anything that can increase the chances of that happening should be focused on.' Shalom believes that by increasing the weight, Eubank Jr's long-term health would be preserved. Reports currently suggest that a rematch, which was agreed in the contracts of the first bout, would be staged once again at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this time in September. Shalom continued: 'We saw a very good fight, a very competitive fight but there were concerns around the challenge on Chris's body. So no one wants to see that. We believe and we hope there'll be discussions around that before we make the rematch. It was very competitive. I think Conor Benn proved himself at the weight that night. He was a serious competitor. He came in big and he looked comfortable.' He added: 'I think that's why in the rematch there should be less talk about the weight. That was the only real concern of the whole event. Wouldn't it be amazing to do it again because of the impact it had on the sport in this country, but everyone wants it to be as safe as possible for the fighters.'

Struggle with health issues: Georgia O'Connor has died following a battle with cancer. The 25-year-old repeatedly claimed she was overlooked by doctors for months. In early 2025, O'Connor was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, a condition that rapidly progressed despite her previous health challenges. Her diagnosis came after a prolonged period of misdiagnosis and delayed treatment, during which she experienced severe symptoms and sought medical attention multiple times. In a social media post, O'Connor had expressed her frustration with the healthcare system, recalling how her concerns were initially dismissed by medical professionals. 'For 17 weeks since the start of October, I've been in constant pain, going back and forth between Durham and Newcastle RVI A&E knowing deep down something was seriously wrong,' she had written in a post dated 31 January. She added, 'I said from the start I felt it was cancer. I KNEW the risks. I have colitis and PSC, two diseases that dramatically increase the chances of getting it.
