In a show of Blue Devil pride, Duke University has taken to X to congratulate former Duke legends Carlos Boozer and Kenny Dennard on their victory at the 2025 K Academy Golf Championship on Saturday. Advertisement According to the official K Academy 2025 Golf Championship Cup Results, Boozer and Dennard teamed up to claim the title, with their Team PINEHURST beating out Team AUGUSTA 24-30. Team AUGUSTA was headlined by former Blue Devils Mike Gminski, Lee Melchionni and Gerald Henderson. Dennard starred at Duke from 1977 to 1981 and was a key contributor on the Blue Devils' 1978 squad that reached the NCAA championship game, losing to Kentucky. A McDonald's All-American in 1999, Boozer attended Duke University from 1999 to 2002, being named an ACC All-Freshman (2000), first-team All-ACC (2002), third-team All-American (2002) and an NCAA champion (2001). Advertisement He and his ex-wife, CeCe, have three children: Carmani and twins Cameron and Cayden, the latter two of whom have already committed to Duke in the class of 2025. Cameron Boozer was a two-time Florida Mr. Basketball and two-time Gatorade National Player of the Year (2023, 2025), averaging 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and two blocks per game in his sophomore year. He led his team to three consecutive state titles from 2022-2024 and earned MVP honors at the FIBA U-17 World Cup (2024) and Under-16 Americas Championship (2023). Champaign Superintendent out and tempers flare at the latest school board meeting
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign School district had their third special meeting to decide the future of the superintendent went sideways after yelling, tense moments, and a near fight all happened within two hours. Tonight's agenda only had two items on it — and both pertained to the future of Superintendent Sheila Boozer. It also was the third special meeting this month for the new board — and it quickly became one of the rowdiest yet. The board decided to approve the separation agreement with current Superintendent Sheila Boozer. They also moved to task Dan Casillas as acting superintendent until an interim is named. Both of these decisions were expected to pass — and did by a 5-2 margin. What wasn't expected was the loud back-and-forth at the end between the audience and members of the board. Thursday was the third special meeting for the new Champaign school board — and perhaps the most consequential. Once again, it started with fiery public comment, with many in the crowd showing support at the podium for Sheila Boozer keeping her job as superintendent. 'The time that is necessary is being unjustly cut short. Your legacy will endure. You've shown us what it means to lead with integrity,' said incoming Booker T. Washington principal Cecil Thomas. 'Disrespected our superintendent, but you got what you wanted,' said one speaker during public comment. Shows of support also came from Champaign County NAACP President Minnie Pearson. 'What would it have been like if you had been as supportive of Dr. Boozer as you criticized her?' said Pearson. After about an hour of public comment, the board got to new business — approving an amended employment agreement with Boozer, which will see her depart from the district. 'This agreement has been negotiated between district lawyers and the personal lawyer of Dr. Sheila Boozer over the last couple of weeks,' said Board President Tony Bruno. Justin Michael Hendrix and Grace Kang were the sole two members voting against. 'I was not in favor of this as well, because this requires some additional money and I don't feel like that is being very fiscally responsible,' said Kang. 'The name Sheila comes from Irish origins and Latin roots meaning heavenly. Yet we have been unable to experience this heavenly presence due to power moves I can only consider wicked,' said Hendrix. The board also voted Dan Casillas as acting superintendent — pending the appointment of a more full-time interim. Once again, Hendrix and Kang voted against. 'I give it back to you all, because this is disgusting,' said Hendrix. Then, the meeting went off the rails. A loud and disruptive back-and-forth happened between the board and the audience over the approved decisions, culminating with a man charging at Board President Tony Bruno after former Board President Gianina Baker spoke out from the crowd. Board President Tony Bruno confirmed Boozer will remain on paid administrative leave until her contract expires in June 2026. He also says their agreement will eventually be made public — and says Boozer will need to sign it for the agreement to go into operation. Boozer herself was not at the meeting tonight. According to Michael Scotto, the Utah Jazz are expected to bring Carlos Boozer into the organization as a scout. From HoopsHype: In other news, former two-time Jazz All-Star forward Carlos Boozer is with the team here at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago and is expected to join the organization as a scout, league sources told HoopsHype. This is a fun move by the Jazz to have Boozer close to the organization. But it's also a smart idea, Boozer should bring great insight with the different big men the Jazz might bring in. The other obvious wrinkle to this is the fact that Boozer's son, Cam Boozer, will very likely be a top-3 pick in the draft next season. The fact that Boozer is happy to join the Jazz and be in Utah, bodes well for the future of Cam Boozer potentially being in Utah. Advertisement It's very likely that Utah will be in a similar spot in the lottery next season, and I hope the Jazz get a Boozer AND 1!!! and bring Cam Boozer into the organization next year as the star they've been waiting for. Duke basketball signee Cameron Boozer joins LeBron James on esteemed list Duke Blue Devils basketball fans spent the last two years rooting for one of the most accomplished and anticipated prospects of the century thus far. Cooper Flagg looked like a lock for the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft even as a high-school senior, leading Montverde Academy to an undefeated season and a Chipotle Nationals title before winning the John R. Wooden Award as the nation's best college basketball player as a freshman. His replacement will bring an even more decorated resume to Durham. Cameron Boozer, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Florida, headlines the 2025 Duke basketball recruiting class, and he already can't fit all of his awards in a single trophy case. He helped Columbus High School match Flagg's Chipotle Nationals title, he was named co-MVP of the McDonald's All-American Game, and he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a sophomore and as a senior. The accolade he earned this week might surpass all of those, however, since it places him in the same breath as NBA royalty. Boozer was named Mr. Basketball USA by on Monday, defeating Kansas commit Darryn Peterson and BYU commit AJ Dybantsa with eight first-place votes among 10 ballots to claim the award for the second time in three years. The last person to be named Mr. Basketball USA twice? Four-time NBA champion LeBron James, who won it in 2002 and 2003 before getting drafted with the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft straight out of high school. Boozer became the first sophomore to win the award in 2023, and he finished runner-up to Flagg in 2024, which eventually prevented the three-peat. "Yeah, it's crazy," Boozer said in a release announcing his award. "To be categorized with such a small group of guys who have won the award twice is an amazing feeling and hopefully I can do more winning at the next level and the one after that." MaxPreps credited Boozer with 22.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks as a senior. He's third in the 247Sports' Class of 2025 rankings behind Peterson and Dybantsa.
