‘I saved over £200 by swapping my pricey skincare for this Boots K-beauty brand'

With Korean beauty proving to be a big trend at the moment, I tried out key products from the viral K-beauty brand that's just launched into Boots – and I was super impressed K-beauty isn't a new trend, but we've seen a huge rise in the popularity of Korean skincare this year, with shoppers after the 'glass skin' glow its hydrating formulas are famous for. It's also now easier than ever to buy here in the UK, with a number of top brands recently launching into mainstream retailers – including the brand Beauty of Joseon, now available from Boots, and already proving to be a big hit. Keen to see what all the hype is about, I put aside my tried-and-tested skincare routine and instead reached for some of Beauty of Joseon's bestsellers, most of which retail for around the £15 mark – and I couldn't believe how glowing they made my skin look. Here's what I would re-buy... Korean skincare products are all about hydration and glow via applying multiple light layers, rather than using thick, heavy formulas, and Beauty of Joseon is perfect for this. After cleansing, I started with the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum : Ginseng + Retinal, £15, which feels cooling and refreshing, and ideal if you're trying to tackle puffiness and dark circles , but if probably unlikely to make many long-term improvements to dryness and fine lines. Next up was a product I'd never really used before, but which I feel made the biggest different to my skin: an essence. Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, £15.50, is designed to be patted into the skin. It's an excellent way to get extra hydration and radiance into the skin without piling on heavy layers, and I saw a noticeable glow from this. Our shopping writer Grace is also a fan, saying how one person actually stopped her in the street to compliment her glowing skin after using this. I also tried a couple of serums from the Beauty of Joseon Hanbang Serum Discovery Kit, £23, which, although all lovely and lightweight, I don't really feel had enough 'anti-ageing' ingredients as my late-30s skin needs (perhaps better suited to younger skin). This was followed by Dynasty Cream, £21, the brand's moisturiser and currently stocked in the Love Island villa, which has a gel-cream texture; I think it would be great for oily to combination skin. If you normally hate the feeling of greasy sunscreens on your face, you should definitely check out Korean formula, which are typically high factor but very lightweight – and Beauty of Joseon's are no exception. I'd probably use Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+, currently £13.95, in winter, but Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+, also now £13.95, feels like water, and it ideal in hot weather or if you have oily skin. After using this full K-beauty routine, I couldn't believe how good my skin looked – fresh, juicy and glowing. The products that I think made the biggest difference were the Glow Replenishing Rice Milk and the Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+ – I'll repurchase them, I'd definitely recommend looking at these ones first if you're thinking of trying the brand. I would also save a huge amount of money if I stuck with this routine. My previous morning regimen consisted of Austinus Bader The Face Mist, £76, Skin Rocks The Eye Cream, £65, Medik8 Liquid Peptides Advanced MP, £79, ALLSKIN|MED Barrier Defence Emulsion, £82, and Ultra Violette Future Fluid Superlight Mineral Skinscreen SPF50+, £38, which together comes to a rather eye-watering £340. These Beauty of Joseon products I used, however, come to around £80 in total – a saving of around £260. Morrisons & Ultrasun sun cream warning as safety test failed

Ultrasun Family SPF30, which costs £28 for 150ml and is marketed as being 'perfect for the whole family' and 'especially suitable for children and those with sensitive skin', failed to meet minimum sun cream UVA protection levels in two separate tests by Which?. Morrisons Moisturising Sun Spray SPF30 also failed to meet minimum SPF protection levels in two tests. (Image: Which? PA Wire) Ultrasun passed the UVB SPF part of the test but failed on UVA testing, scoring 9.1 and then 9.5 in a retest. Which? required a score of 10 or more for a pass. Morrisons Moisturising Sun Spray product passed UVA tests but failed the UVB/SPF tests with scores of 25.7 and then 20.7 – short of the 30 or more needed to pass. Which? tested 15 popular sun creams this year, including Boots, Garnier and Nivea as well as supermarket own-brand products. Aldi's Lacura Sensitive Sun Lotion SPF50+, which costs £2.99 for 200ml, was found to protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Cien Sun Spray 30 SPF High (£3.79/200ml), from fellow discounter Lidl, also passed all SPF and UVA testing, with Which? describing it as a 'solid option for affordable and reliable sun protection'. Some 11 other products, including Boots Soltan Protect & Moisturise Suncare Spray SPF30 (£5.50 for 200ml), Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture Lotion SPF30 (£7.90 for 200ml) and Sainsbury's Sun Protect Moisturising Lotion SPF30 (£5.50 for 200ml) passed SPF and UVA safety tests. Natalie Hitchins, Which? head of home products and services, said: 'It's really concerning that widely available sunscreens could be putting families at risk by failing to offer the level of sun protection claimed on the packaging. 'While shoppers should avoid buying our 'don't buys', our results prove that there's no need to splash out to keep you and your loved ones safe in the sun as we've found cheap reliable options at Aldi and Lidl.' A spokeswoman for Ultrasun said: 'Ultrasun is fully confident in our testing protocols. As an independent brand delivering very high UVB and UVA protection options for over 30 years, our detailed testing processes, independent and peer reviewed, continue to not only meet but surpass industry standards. 'Our chosen testing protocol is one of the strictest available. Further detail and clarification from Which? on their testing protocols would also be helpful, particularly on how these resulted in two different results from the same sample.' Morrisons told Which? that it was looking closely at the data and working with its supplier to carry out additional independent testing. Recommended reading: What are UVA and UVB rays, and what does SPF mean? UVA and UVB rays both cause different types of damage, and not all sun creams protect against them in the same way. UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply than UVB to cause long-term damage, including all types of skin cancer, and play a role in the ageing process, such as causing wrinkles, sun spots and leathery skin. UVB rays are mostly responsible for sunburn and skin reddening. They do not penetrate as deeply as UVA rays but they are just as damaging, and can play a large part in the development of skin cancers including melanoma. SPF stands for 'sun protection factor', and indicates the level of protection a sun cream provides against burning rays. SPFs range from 2 to 50+, with 50+ offering the most protection against UVB.

‘Super effective' hands-free portable neck fan keeps you cool on your commute

Amazon has slashed 17% off the 'super effective' hands-free neck fan thats a godsend for keeping you cool and comfortable whilst working or commuting in the heatwave From sweating on your commute to overheating at your desk, the heatwave can be a nightmare to navigate for workers. Handheld fans are great for a quick fix but leave you with just one hand free, whilst portable fans can be a pain to carry around with you. So when we spotted the Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate on Amazon, we knew it was an instant must-have for working in the summer. The clever neck fan blasts cool air around your face, neck and head without needing to constantly hold anything up, leaving you with both hands free to use your phone, carry your bags or even steady yourself on your commute. Ordinarily priced at £35.98, it's also currently on sale with 17% off, slashing the price to £29.98, making now the perfect time to get your hands on it. Plus Amazon Prime members can get it delivered the next day, so you don't need to spend another moment overheating on the train. There are some more budget-friendly options to pick from too if you'd rather. At Boots you can pick up the Menopause & Me Wearable Neck Fan priced at £15.99, or Argos has the £15 Menkind BeCool Bladeless Neck Fan in Black. The Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate simply sits around the back of your neck, kind of how a travel pillow would, and has small fans built in all the way around it. These blast cool air directly onto your neck and face, with three different cooling temperatures to choose from which can cool you down to as low as 15 degrees, and there are five different speed settings too. It's fully portable so you can wear it on public transport, sitting at your desk, even walking around on holiday or at somewhere like Disneyland. It also reaches all the way around your face and neck so you get cool air from all angles, with 12 different colourways to choose from. There's an LED display on the Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate too so you can keep an eye on things like battery levels and what settings you're on. It has a fast-charging USB charging port so you can have it ready to go in no time, and has between three and 19.5 hours battery life depending on which settings you're using. It's also got great reviews from Amazon shoppers too, with one saying: 'Mums menopause gift, my mum has been getting it really tough with hot flushes during menopause. I had googled to see what I could do to help her and neck fans was actually recommended. I can confirm she has been very happy and uses it while working from home when she feels one coming on. It's also great to use in general in the heat wave we had recently.' Another wrote: 'I was just looking for a neck fan and didn't even know what a cooling plate was, its super effective at cooling me down. Cannit wait to take this on holiday. Hands free comfort. Saves carrying a mini fan around.' Some were less impressed, with one saying: 'It does as it says on the box, and does it well. Generates much cold air. Battery life is dependent on which settings you found it a bit bulky and uncomfortable to wear. Takes around 3 hours to recharge.' Another simply said: 'Not silent.' However others loved it, writing: 'We got one of the cheap neck fans without the cooling plate, but this makes such a real difference. We grabbed another after testing our first.'

We asked 12 beauty experts to spill on their favourite beauty buys – some cost £450, others just £2

IN the wise words of Jessie J, it's not about the money where beauty buying is concerned. In fact, more than a third of Boots Advantage Card members shopped for both budget-friendly make-up and premium cosmetics in 2024, focusing their attention not on how much products costs but on what really works - not something that's always easy to work out. To find out where we should be spending our money, and what products we can save on, we asked 10 industry experts for their favourite budget beauty product, and the one they will shell out for. Tara Ledden, Beauty Editor 32 I'm a huge fan of high street beauty, as there are so many brilliant products lining the shelves today, you really don't have to spend loads to arm yourself with hard-working products. However, if I'm going to splurge, it's almost always on skincare. BUDGET BUY BUY NOW I talk about ARKIVE The Prologue Hair Primer, £ 4.50, on an almost daily basis. In fact, when I told Beauty Writer Mia that I was going to make it my budget pick, she replied: "I knew it!" immediately. It's super lightweight, yet it still dissolves tangles and manages to leave hair noticeably softer and more shiny - while also protecting it from heat - without leaving any residue behind. It's impossible to use too much, so if you have fine hair like me, you don't need to worry about it feeling dirty or limp. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Tatcha The Silk Cream, £123 BUY NOW I discovered Tatcha The Silk Cream, £123, in the Fabulous beauty cupboard over two years ago and started slathering it on my face. Within days, I was getting compliments on how good my skin looked, including one from a fellow beauty editor well versed in my history of acne, who exclaimed: "Your skin looks like porcelain!" before we'd even said hello. I'd used it for a week before I googled the price, and I instantly started using a tiny pea-sized amount to try to make the tub last longer, thinking I'd never be able to justify a repurchase. Unfortunately for my bank balance, I've not found a cheaper moisturiser that compares, and have since re-stocked multiple times. Jamie Genevieve, make-up artist and founder of V ieve 32 As a make-up artist, it doesn't get more fun than testing and trying new make-up launches. BUDGET BUY Byoma Hydrating Serum, £12.99 Everything from Byoma is simple, effective and fuss-free, with a super-accessible price point. Byoma Hydrating Serum, £12.99 gives skin a hit of hydration, making it great to use ahead of applying make-up. BLOWOUT BEAUTY I love my luxurious facials with facialists Olivia Francesca and Nichola Joss, whose clients have included Gwyneth Paltrow and I go to KMP Skin in London and Age Refined Glasgow for medical-grade treatments. Dr Christine Hall, aesthetics doctor and pharmacist 32 One product I never spend lots of money on is a cleanser, as you really don't need to. BUDGET BUY Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF 50, £15.50 The textures and finishes of Korean SPFs are unrivalled because they're so lightweight and non-greasy, plus they're often hybrid products. , offers premium protection and doubles up as a moisturiser. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Skinceuticals Silymarin CF Serum, £165 Skinceuticals Silymarin CF Serum, £165, is formulated with oily skin in mind and was genuinely a game-changer for me in terms of clearing my skin of breakouts. Mollie Burdell, beauty journalist and make-up artist 32 You don't need to spend much to create an exceptional skincare or make-up routine, but I'm also a real sucker for glitzy tools and gadgets. BUDGET BUY e.l.f cosmetics Soft Glam Satin Foundation, £8, is one of my favourite bases because it gives the most natural glow-giving coverage with minimal effort required, and works beautifully on all skin types. BLOWOUT BEAUTY 32 Dyson Supersonic r Hairdryer, £449.99 I first experienced the new Dyson Supersonic r Hairdryer, £449.99, at Larry King's salon, and I immediately knew I needed one for myself. It's nifty, lightweight and an absolute joy to use. Emily Lansley, celebrity manicurist, facialist and tanning expert 32 When adding to my beauty kit, I always keep prevention, protection and good gut health at the forefront of my mind. BUDGET BUY Boots Glow Gua Sha, £8.50 BUY HERE A gua sha, like Boots Glow Gua Sha, £8.50, is one of the best things you can use at home for lymphatic drainage - you'll see instant tightening results. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Slimyonik AIR Bodystyler treatments, from £99, is a body contouring and lymphatic drainage device. It supercharges your metabolism, reduces inflammation throughout your body and improves your skin and gut health from the inside out. Adam Reed, hairstylist and founder of Arkive Headcare 32 Creating and sticking to a routine is near impossible for my ADHD mind, so I make sure I keep things really simple. BUDGET BUY Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream, £2 I use Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream, £2, absolutely everywhere, and it's also a great base for making fragrances last. BLOWOUT BEAUTY I take weekly visits to the nail salon for a mani/pedi. My job is aggressive on my hands, so I really take care of them. Townhouse nail salon is my go-to. Katie Onyejekwe, aesthetician and skincare educator My beauty routine is simple, results-driven and efficacious. BUDGET BUY BUY HERE Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liner in Cappuccino, £3.99, is the perfect nude shade for my skin tone - once applied it really does stay put, which I find a lot of other liners don't. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Pure Lift Pro EMS tool, £674 I use Pure Lift Pro EMS tool, £674, in my facials, and occasionally on myself. It visibly lifts and helps to drain away water retention, leaving you looking sculpted. Iram Shelton, celebrity nail artist and lifestyle creator 32 I spend way more than average on beauty, but it's part of my job, so I see it as a business investment too! BUDGET BUY Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser Concealer, £9.99 BUY HERE Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser Concealer, £9.99, blends like a dream and has been in my make-up bag since my teenage years. Some things don't need to be expensive to work. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Dyson Airwrap, £479.99 BUY HERE My Dyson Airwrap, £479.99, was a major splurge, but it's the best way to achieve a salon-worthy blowout at home without frying my hair. Plus, the time it saves me makes it 100% worth it. Adeola Gboyega, make-up artist I'm not into products that are all packaging and no performance. If it doesn't get results or elevate my routine in some way, it's not worth the spend. BUDGET BUY NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Body Oil, £12.50 has a super-luxe scent for the price and I love how multi-use it is: body, hair, décolleté, even a few drops in the bath. BLOWOUT BEAUTY I believe in complementing my skincare routine with professional treatments. Injectables, chemical peels and laser treatments help with long-term skin health and make everyday maintenance so much easier. Jules Von Hep, beauty expert & author of The Confidence Ritual My beauty kit is brimming with different products dependent on season, day of the week, mood, age. Essentially more is more, less is a bore. BUDGET BUY V05 Wet Look Gel, £3.50 V05 Wet Look Gel, £3.50, is no frills, and creates slicked-back hair every time. BLOWOUT BEAUTY Matiere Premier Santal Austral, £165 for 50ml ED P is expensive. Estee Lalonde, content creator and founder of Mirror Water 32 Don't be swayed by trends – find what works best for you. Shopping with a list helps me to avoid impulse buys. BUDGET BUY BUY HERE Garnier Micellar Water, £5.49, is a ride-or-die for me. It's perfect for all skin types and is always the first step of my evening routine to remove my make-up. BLOWOUT BEAUTY I'd always say to splurge on a luxurious serum. , is an all-time favourite - if my skin is showing any signs of stress, this highly concentrated formula instantly calms and soothes it. Mia Lyndon, Beauty Writer at Fabulous 32 Never overload your skin with buzzy skin and make-up products - instead, invest time in finding products that work for you, regardless of how unsexy they may seem. BUDGET BUY 32 Cetraben Cream, £4.84 BUY HERE It's taken me a long time to find the right moisturiser for my eczema-prone complexion, but I've finally found it in simple and deeply nourishing Cetraben Cream, £4.84.
