Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par picks up momentum on release day as last-hour bookings surge past 10,000 tickets

Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par started slow but is gaining momentum. Early shows began later, impacting initial bookings. However, ticket sales surged recently, indicating growing interest. The film earned Rs 1.68 crore by 1 pm. Kuberaa, starring Dhanush, opened stronger with Rs 3.58 crore. Sitaare Zameen Par hopes to improve with evening shows and positive word of mouth. Aamir Khan 's much-anticipated emotional drama Sitaare Zameen Par had a measured start at the box office this morning, but is now showing encouraging signs of picking up pace as the day progresses. The film, which released today (June 20), had most of its shows scheduled to begin post 10 am, resulting in a relatively slow advance booking figure in the early hours. However, as per BookMyShow data, the last one hour alone has seen a surge of over 10,000 tickets booked for the film, indicating growing audience interest. As of 1 pm today, Sitaare Zameen Par has managed to collect Rs 1.68 crore in India. Its advance booking prior to release stood at Rs 3.31 crore from 115,344 tickets sold across 9,542 shows nationwide. With block seats included, the total pre-release booking value climbed to Rs 6.88 crore, giving the film a respectable start despite the limited early morning show count. The film's primary business is coming from the Hindi belt, with Rs 3.19 crore gross generated through 103,884 tickets in the Hindi 2D format alone. Its presence in regional languages like Tamil and Telugu is limited but notable, especially with 9,309 tickets sold for the Telugu version. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In contrast, Kuberaa — starring Dhanush , Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna — has had a much stronger opening at the Indian box office, earning Rs 3.58 crore till 1 pm on its release day. Made on a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, Kuberaa has been consistently drawing in crowds, with advance bookings and early show numbers reflecting steady footfalls. While Sitaare Zameen Par had a slower start due to its show timings and the genre's typically selective audience appeal, the afternoon and evening shows are expected to perform better, especially with the sharp spike in last-hour ticket bookings hinting at positive word of mouth and growing curiosity. If the current booking momentum sustains through the evening and weekend, Sitaare Zameen Par could well find its footing at the box office, balancing out its day-one numbers with a steady pickup in film has a star studded premiere last night which was attended by Shah Rukh Khan , Salman Khan , Rekha , Vicky Kaushal and many more.

Sharmila Tagore, Raakhee draw Bengali viewers in with family films, defying local trends

West Bengal's theatrical business has received a boost lately after going back to doing what it does best: family films. This is while films in most other languages have put up a mixed box office show over the past few months, ranging from inconsistent (Tamil, Telugu) to disastrous (Hindi). Even though cinemas in the state were dominated by Bollywood over the past few years, the recent success of films featuring yesteryear stars such as Sharmila Tagore (Puratawn), Raakhee Gulzar (Aamar Boss) and Moushumi Chatterjee (Aarii) have helped the local industry reclaim some of its past glory. These movies emerged as hits when barely anything was working in theatres across languages, thanks to their appeal among family audiences. Aamar Boss grossed ₹4.15 crore in worldwide box office collections, while Puratawn and Aarii clocked in ₹1.52 crore and ₹33 lakh, respectively. While the figures aren't comparable to Hindi, Tamil or Telugu movies, they reflect significant demand for regional language cinema that is often limited to a single market. Also Read | The rise of small-town stories on OTT: Grassroots-themed shows are proving to be cost-effective, culturally rich 'There has been a trend of unconventional films resonating with Bengali audiences, often featuring veteran actors in fresh narratives such as Aamar Boss, which marked Raakhee Gulzar's return to a leading role in mainstream Bengali cinema," said Ashish Saksena, chief operating officer – cinemas, BookMyShow. 'Production houses have been instrumental in bringing culturally rooted stories to the forefront. Projects such as Bohurupi, Raktabeej and Haami have managed to successfully blend traditional themes with contemporary appeal, finding both critical and commercial appreciation." The Bengali box office is currently in a reflective phase, offering an opportunity for strategic recalibration, Saksena added. An area of improvement that could aid growth could be in optimising release schedules to avoid clustering major films around festive periods that only ends up competing for audience attention. With better planning and release strategies, films can be better positioned to shine individually and reach their full potential. Sure-shot bet Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji, known for hits such as Killbill Society and Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei, both released this year, agreed that one sure-shot, safe bet to box office success in Bengali cinema in the past 10 years is the family drama. 'Several filmmakers have shifted genres to ensure that the elderly come to theatres, in which case, multiple tickets are bought for the entire family. Economically, films starring elderly protagonists make sense," Mukherji added. Also Read | Regional content gains ground on OTTs even as Hindi dominates Experts pointed out the Bengali industry has long grappled with the dominance of Hindi films that continue to be hugely popular in the state. While a big Bollywood star vehicle can make ₹35-40 crore in box office collections, regional language films only clock up to ₹10-15 crore. That said, when the narrative is crafted to match the gravitas of senior actors, the cinematic experience not only evokes nostalgia but also speaks powerfully to contemporary audiences, resulting in impressive earnings. 'Bengali cinema has always had an emotional core and films that tap into that sentiment continue to thrive," said Ahana Kanjilal Dutta, group head, strategic communications, SVF (Shree Ventakesh Films) & hoichoi. 'Veteran actors bring a legacy and a familiarity that deeply resonates, especially with senior audiences who have cherished them for decades. There's a sense of cultural continuity and emotional relatability that these artists bring to the screen. When coupled with strong storytelling, their presence elevates the cinematic experience and generates a powerful pull at the box office." SVF has backed hits like Killbill Society and Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei this year. Also Read | Regional cinema's box office struggle: Why Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi films are losing out

Aditya Gadhvi Sets Mumbai On Fire With Sold-Out Folk Fusion Concert At NESCO

Last Updated: Aditya Gadhvi rocked Mumbai with a sold-out concert at NESCO, blending Gujarati folk and modern beats. A second show was added due to massive fan demand. Gujarat's folk music powerhouse, Aditya Gadhvi, brought Mumbai to its feet with a sold-out, high-octane concert at NESCO, Goregaon, on Saturday, June 14. The show, part of his much-anticipated Live In Concert tour, was such a roaring success that organizers added a second show on Sunday, June 15, to meet overwhelming fan demand. Produced and promoted by TribeVibe Entertainment, a BookMyShow Enterprise, the concert celebrated the soul of Gujarati folk music infused with modern sonic elements. The event drew more than 12,000 fans, with tickets for the first show selling out within 48 hours of launch in April — a testament to Gadhvi's rising national fame and the enduring love for regional music traditions. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aditya Gadhvi (@adityagadhviofficial) Kicking off the evening with the deeply evocative 'Sapna Vinani Raat', Gadhvi instantly set the tone for an immersive musical journey. The momentum only grew with the thunderous beats of 'Vitthal Vitthal', 'Shivaji Nu Halardu', and 'Naagar Nandji Na Laal', transforming the entire venue into a pulsating Garba dance floor. Enhanced by snow bubbles, flames, synchronized Xylobands, and vivid stage visuals, the atmosphere turned electric. When the opening notes of 'Khalasi', the breakout folk anthem, hit the air, the crowd erupted in unison, chanting every lyric in celebration. The show reached its emotional high point with performances of 'Laadki', 'Rang Bhini', and 'Mahahetvali', leaving the audience in rapturous awe. Among the thousands cheering was Darshan Raval, Gadhvi's friend and fellow singer-songwriter, spotted singing along with the crowd. Shoven Shah, Founder & CEO of TribeVibe Entertainment, reflected on the concert's success, 'Mumbai's incredible response to Aditya Gadhvi's folk fusion spectacle reinforces what we've always believed — when exceptional artists meet passionate audiences, something magical happens. At TribeVibe, our mission is to bring live, unforgettable musical experiences to fans across India." Echoing that sentiment, Aditya Gadhvi shared, 'It was an absolute pleasure to perform in front of the vibrant Mumbai audience this weekend.
