Black-Tie Dress Code: What to wear to a black-tie event
There aren't many occasions that require a black-tie dress code – unless you frequent charity galas, red carpets, and formal weddings – so when the opportunity arises, you might be wondering what on earth you're supposed to wear. But fret not, I've got you. Not to be confused with a white-tie dress code, which is even more formal, or cocktail attire, which is less formal; at a black-tie event you're expected to wear a floor-length gown, sharp tailoring, or midi-length cocktail dress. Black-tie might seem like an investment, but it doesn't have to break the bank because when it comes to elegance, less is truly more. Although you can have a bit more fun with cocktail attire since there aren't restrictions on hemlines, modesty, or embellishments, black-tie dressing is way more straight-forward and a simple slip dress or sleek suit will have you feeling like a million bucks no matter what your budget looks like. The only thing I would avoid wearing is statement prints – like florals, polka dots, or stripes – as, depending on how it's styled, can come across a bit too casual for a formal, black-tie event. But, that doesn't mean your only option is minimalism, as a bold colour-block look can make a statement while still fitting the dress code. It's one thing to explain what black-tie dressing is, but a totally other thing to see it in action. So, I've found five, fail-safe outfit formulas that are black-tie approved and super easy to replicate with pieces from our favourite high street brands. A white dress with chunky jewels is an elegant take on black-tie dressing. I love this Gucci gown worn by Daisy Edgar-Jones at the premiere of Twisters. It's minimal without being boring because of the asymmetric neckline and cut-out in the back, which also makes it subtly sexy. Wear yours with gold jewellery to add warmth to the ivory hue and complete the look with strappy sandals. Although I would steer clear of this look as a wedding guest, it makes a chic bridal option for a civil ceremony, welcome drinks, or reception. A strapless gown is ideal for showing off a sparkling, statement necklace as demonstrated by Simone Ashley's beautiful crimson-red Giorgio Armani look for the Bones and All premiere at Venice Film Festival. Gold jewels can be overpowering with a red gown since it's such a statement colour, so I'd suggest adorning your neckline with silver or white gold jewellery paired with diamond earrings and a cocktail ring. To really take your styling to the next level, wear your hair in an up-do to create the illusion of an lengthened silhouette. It's no surprise that an LBD (long black dress) is essential for your black-tie arsenal and your capsule wardrobe – and who better to show us how it's done than the queen of the red carpet Zendaya? Wearing a vintage, black slip dress from Mugler's 1995 collection for the London premiere of Dune: Part Two, the A-lister embraced minimal elegance by accessorising with glistening, statement earrings and a cocktail ring. As for shoes, black heels are all you need while an embellished evening bag adds sparkle. If you fancy taking it up a notch, slick on a bold, red lip. When it comes to the black-tie dress code, a dress isn't your only option. Hailey Bieber attended a private dinner party wearing this Saint Laurent suit and she couldn't look cooler. It's a much more relaxed fit than YSL's iconic Le Smoking tuxedo, which gives it a truly effortless feel while still being polished. Finish the look with pointed-toe pumps to add structure to the louche silhouette. Whether it's designer or high-street, you can't go wrong with a slip dress when attending a black-tie event. Take note from Anya Taylor-Joy's archival Christian Dior dress at the 2025 Golden Globes. Designed by John Galliano for Dior's spring 1998 collection, Taylor-Joy finished the look with a matching shawl – a smart move in case the temperature drops – strappy sandals and a statement floral necklace. This outfit combo is ideal for attending a spring or summer wedding. Follow Kara on Instagram Kara is the Ecommerce Editor, Women's Lifestyle at Hearst UK. SGT. ROCK Story and Character Details Revealed; Cillian Murphy and Mikey Madison Offered Roles — GeekTyrant
The war-torn world of Sgt. Rock was almost brought to life as a feature film, that is until DC Studios pulled the plug on the production. While the project is currently shelved, new intel from Nexus Point News offers new details on what could've been a gritty, character-driven WWII action epic from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino ( Call Me By Your Name , Bones and All ). Let's start with the casting carousel: Colin Farrell had reportedly entered talks to play the grizzled war hero Sgt. Frank Rock after both Daniel Craig and Jeremy Allen White passed on the role. Farrell's involvement was always tenuous, especially with The Batman Part II ramping up. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy was also offered the lead, but he turned it down. On the female lead side, the role of Mademoiselle Marie, who is Rock's love interest and a fierce freedom fighter, was offered to both Mikey Madison ( Scream , Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ) and Waves breakout Taylor Russell. As for the story, 'The film would have followed Sgt. Frank Rock, Mademoiselle Marie, and the Easy Company as they fight the Nazis in a battle to recover the Spear of Destiny in World War 2.' So, that sounds like it would've been a lot of fun! Easy Company itself was stacked with the following characters: Bulldozer : The hotheaded muscle of the group, late 20s. Wildman : Rock's loyal right-hand medic with a big red beard. Jackie Johnson : Former heavyweight boxer, mid-20s. Sure Shot : A sharp-eyed Apache sniper. Bean Pole : A lanky 19-year-old grenadier and translator. Dash : An 18-year-old track star turned ammo bearer (reportedly named Philip Mason, a nod to Ice Cream Soldier). Four Eyes : A nerdy 19-year-old comic book artist—yes, really. Junior : Just 17, enlisted after lying about his age. Johnny Doe: An original creation—a soldier who notches kills on his rifle like trophies. Challengers star Mike Faist was reportedly set to play Johnny Doe, reuniting with Guadagnino. David Jonsson ( Rye Lane , Alien: Covenant ) had been eyed for Jackie Johnson, but that didn't pan out. The film would've been shot mostly outdoors on location in the UK over six weeks, but weather conditions reportedly played a role in halting progress. There's been talk of trying again in 2026, but with Guadagnino already juggling projects like American Psycho , Separate Rooms , and Lord of the Flies , that window might be closing. Some insiders have speculated that 'Guadagnino remained untested in the realm of action movies, and even though the budget was in the $70 million range, a paltry sum for comic book movies, higher-ups may have wavered in their confidence.' So will Sgt. Rock ever see the battlefield? Hard to say. It's a cool, offbeat corner of the DC Universe, one that blends war drama, supernatural elements, and classic comic grit. We'll just have to wait and see if the movie eventually gets made one day.

Patrick Schwarzenegger under fire for his now-deleted shady tweets about Austin Butler
The White Lotus actor Patrick Schwarzenegger is throwing his full weight behind a dream role: Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming adaptation of American Psycho. But while he's making his campaign known across social media, some of his resurfaced tweets are coming back to haunt him. News broke Tuesday that Patrick is 'actively campaigning' to star in the film, after online users noticed a flurry of strategic posts from the actor. Guadagnino, known for Call Me by Your Name and Bones and All, previously clarified that his American Psycho is not a remake of the 2000 Christian Bale-led film but an original interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 satirical horror novel. The story, infamous for its graphic violence and controversial sexual content, follows narcissistic 1980s investment banker Patrick Bateman, who leads a double life as a serial killer. The film has a strong cult following, and any modern-day casting is sure to stir strong opinions. As early as October, Schwarzenegger had made his ambitions known. When the project was first announced, he shared a link to the news with the caption: 'My dream.' Then last week, when a fan tweeted: 'patrick schwarzenegger, i've found your breakout role,' he replied enthusiastically: 'I'd love nothing more ;).' On Monday, the popular celebrity news account Pop Crave posted: ''The White Lotus' star Patrick Schwarzenegger is campaigning for lead role in 'American Psycho' remake,' amplifying the conversation. That tweet prompted some users to unearth an old post from Patrick that many saw as hypocritical. In December 2024, shortly after reports emerged that Austin Butler was Guadagnino's top choice for the Bateman role, Patrick tweeted: 'I love Austin Butler but he's already a star. I feel like Luca movies are perfect gateway for a new ish actor to have a breakout performance.' The irony wasn't lost on critics, especially considering that Schwarzenegger, 31, is the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Hollywood royalty by any standard. He been acting steadily since 2016. Though his breakout moment came with The White Lotus, many pointed out he hardly qualifies as a 'new ish' actor. One X user shared a now-deleted post from May 2024, in which Patrick commented on Butler being considered for several major roles. Reacting to news that Disney was eyeing Butler for a new Pirates of the Caribbean film and the live-action Hercules, Patrick tweeted: 'Cmon man share a little bit.' So far, Patrick hasn't publicly addressed the backlash or the resurgent posts. Meanwhile, no official casting has been announced, and Variety previously noted that while Butler was Guadagnino's top choice, the offer hadn't been finalized.
