Powerball Lotto winner makes $100million mistake

The winner of the $100million Powerball jackpot has yet to claim their staggering prize after picking up the one winning ticket but failing to register it - meaning officials have no way to contact them Last Thursday, a Sydney player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1517 and won the eye-watering sum, becoming the joint third-biggest lottery winner. The winning entry was purchased at Bondi Junction Newsagency and Internet Café, Shop 2, 191 - 195 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction. Despite picking up the winning ticket, the Sydney mystery jackpot winner has yet to make contact with The Lott. The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1517 on June 12 were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21. The all-important Powerball number was 6. The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre explained the Powerball winner could have been found already if they had registered their ticket to The Lott Members Club. 'It's the question many Aussies have been asking during the past seven days: who won last week's $100 million Powerball prize, and do they know they've won?' she said. 'By registering your in-store or online lottery entry to The Lott Members Club, not only are we able to contact you straight after the draw if you win big, but your prize is secure. 'Even if you happen to lose or damage your winning ticket, if it is registered to you, we could still unite you with your prize, providing the ultimate peace of mind. 'Remember, your lottery ticket could be worth millions of dollars, so it makes sense that if you're going to buy a ticket, you should register it to The Lott Members Club. 'Joining is easy and free – simply ask your retailer when you're next in-store or register online or via The Lott app.' NSW winners have six years to claim their prize, but division one prizes can be paid two weeks after the draw. 'This prize is ready to be put into someone's bank account in a week's time – on Friday 27 June 2025,' Ms McIntyre said. 'What a way to end the financial year!'

Check your tickets! Officials on the hunt for $100million Powerball winner almost a week after epic draw

The winner of last week's $100million Powerball is yet to claim their prize, as lottery officials race to track the new millionaire down. Bondi Junction Newsagency and Internet Café, in Sydney 's east, sold the winning ticket ahead of last Thursday's draw. The ticket was the sole winner of the $100million jackpot with the numbers 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14, and 21. The Powerball number last week was 6. The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said the mystery winner had six years to claim the ticket, but was hopeful they would come forward soon. Most Division One winners typically make contact within two weeks of the draw. 'Someone out there is walking around with a ticket worth $100million, and they might not even know it,' Ms Hobdell said. 'Thankfully most winners come forward within a week or two, and we hope this is the case for this division one winner.' The Lott suggested customers register their tickets so they can be contacted by officials in the case of a big win. 'This is also an important reminder for players to always register their lottery tickets to a player card or online account with The Lott Members Club, so if they are to score a major prize, we can reach out to them with the life-changing news,' Ms Hobdell said. Manish, the owner of the newsagency on Oxford Street, Bondi Junction, said his staff were 'thrilled' to hear the news. 'This is by far the biggest winning entry we've ever sold,' shop owner Manish said. 'The team are thrilled to hear the winning news. I'll be rewarding the particular staff member who sold the winning ticket too. 'I'm hoping it's one of our regular customers, but you never know, it could be a tourist too. 'We're located right next to the closest station to Bondi Beach, so you never know.' The huge win came after approximately half of all adult Australians bought an entry into the draw last Thursday. There were six winners of division two, with each pocketing $282,415, and there were 187 division three winners who took home $11,265. The last time Powerball offered a $100million prize, in November 2024, a flurry of Australians bought tickets and on the day of the draw 6,415 tickets were being sold every minute. Previous Lotto wins have gone unclaimed for months. Back in 2018, the winner of a $55million Powerball jackpot did not claim their prize for almost 175 days. Last week, the winner of a TattsLotto draw in Victoria claimed a $2.1million prize six months after his wife tucked the winning ticket into a Christmas card. The man from Wonthaggi, in the South Gippsland region, was one of the 14 Division One winners to score a $30million mega draw. He explained to officials his ticket went unchecked for 'months' as 'life got in the way'. 'My wife always buys a lottery ticket for everyone in the family for Christmas,' he said.

Update in $100m Powerball mystery

Almost a week after the Powerball numbers were drawn, there is still no sign of Sydney's mystery $100 million winner. The life-changing ticket was the only division one winner in last Thursday's Powerball draw and was purchased at Bondi Junction Newsagency & Internet Café. With only six Australians ever taking home a Powerball prize of $100 million or more, one Sydneysider is unknowingly one of Australia's biggest lottery winners ever. Officials from the Lott confirmed they are still yet to hear from the newly minted multi-millionaire and have no way to contact them directly. The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said the mystery player has six years to claim their winnings, but most division one winners typically make contact within a week or two. 'Someone out there is walking around with a ticket worth $100 million, and they might not even know it,' she said. 'Thankfully most winners come forward within a week or two, and we hope this is the case for this division one winner.' This isn't the first time a major prize has been left unclaimed. In 2018, the winner of a $55 million Powerball prize remained a mystery for 175 days, until a Melbourne player came forward to claim it. The ticket was purchased at Scole Lotto & News, Shop 6, 90-106 Sydney Road, Brunswick. Officials are using this case as a timely reminder for players to register all tickets so they can be contacted if they are a winner. 'This is also an important reminder for players to always register their lottery tickets to a player card or online account with The Lott Members Club, so if they are to score a major prize, we can reach out to them with the life-changing news,' Ms Hobdell said. Bondi Junction Newsagency & Internet Café owner Manish said they hoped the whopping prize transforms the winners life 'in a positive way'. 'This is by far the biggest winning entry we've ever sold,' he said. 'I'm hoping it's one of our regular customers, but you never know it could be a tourist too. We're located right next to the closest station to Bondi Beach, so you never know.' Officials are urging Sydneysiders to check their tickets and contact The Lott if they believe they've won the $100 million Powerball jackpot. 'There are 100 million reasons why Sydney's eastern suburbs players should check their tickets today,' The Lott spokesperson Eliza Wregg said. 'With a winning entry tucked away in their car, wallet, or stuck on their fridge door, one New South Wales player is walking around completely oblivious to the fact their life has forever changed.' The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1517 on Thursday 12 June 2025 were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21. The all-important Powerball number was 6. The Lott speaks out over 'mystery' $100 million Powerball winner

Almost a week after Thursday's eye-watering $100 million Powerball draw, the mega-prize money — the equal third-biggest ever won by an individual winner in Australia — remains unclaimed. Officials have revealed the lucky recipient purchased the ticket from Sydney's eastern suburbs at a Bondi Junction newsagent. Other than that, little is known about the new multimillionaire. Several theories have begun to emerge, including that the winner could even be a tourist, but with no registered player details linked to the ticket, The Lott still has no way of contacting them — and can only wait and hope that someone soon realises they've become one of the country's richest individuals. Now that several days have passed, chatter has been mounting online over whether there'll be a redraw. But speaking to Yahoo News Australia on Tuesday, Anna Hobdell, a senior executive at The Lott, said that's not quite how the game works. Anna said, actually, the winner has several years to claim their prize. "The mystery division one winner has six years to claim their $100 million prize in New South Wales. Thankfully, most winners come forward within a week or two, and we hope this is the case for this division one winner," she said. She said that, incredibly, as a general rule across Australia, "unclaimed prize money must be returned to the community in some shape or form". ✈️ One thing a $100m Powerball win could buy you that's better than holidays, homes, and cars 💰 $100 million Powerball winner reveals how her life has changed 😴 Dad claims $60m Powerball jackpot after 'vivid' dream about winning "This can be with community donations, bonus draws and player promotions," Anna explained, adding that The Lott will go to great lengths to track down the winner before this becomes necessary. "We certainly collate all available evidence, including ticket purchase details — ticket type, when purchased, how it was paid for — and any CCTV footage," she said. "We would be unable to release any CCTV footage as this would breach the winner's privacy. However, this evidence can assist any lost and damaged ticket claims a player may make." While it's not yet been a week, Anna said this serves as a timely reminder to punters to register if they're considering playing. It's not the first time an Australian hasn't realised they've won big. In 2018, a $55 million Powerball prize remained unclaimed for 175 days until a Melbourne player eventually came forward. "Someone out there is walking around with a ticket worth $100 million, and they might not even know it," Anna said. If gambling is a problem for you, go to Gambling Help Online or call 1800 858 858.
