Air India flight to Vietnam returns to Delhi; ‘precautionary measure,' says airline
An Air India flight from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam returned mid-air on Thursday due to a precautionary technical concern, the airline said. Flight AI388 landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers disembarked, following which a replacement flight departed later the same day. 'Air India flight AI388 from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City has returned to Delhi as a precautionary measure. The flight landed safely back in Delhi and all passengers have been disembarked and served refreshments while an alternative aircraft with fresh crew has been arranged to fly the passengers to Ho Chi Minh City,' an Air India spokesperson said. The spokesperson added, 'We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers. At Air India, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority.' According to Flightradar24 data, the flight departed at around 1.45 pm before returning to Delhi shortly after. A source in the airline said the replacement aircraft took off for Ho Chi Minh City at around 7 pm. The development comes amid a slew of cancellations and disruptions experienced by the airlines. On Monday, an Air India flight headed to Delhi had to return to Hong Kong because of a technical issue. The flight, AI315, was a Boeing 788. On the same day, an Air India Express flight bound for Ranchi returned to Delhi airport owing to a suspected technical issue. On June 13, an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi returned to Phuket and made a precautionary landing after receiving a bomb threat. The cancellations and disruptions follow the deadly crash of Air India's London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner near Ahmedabad airport.

2 Air India flights face ‘technical' issues, diverted
Two Air India flights, including an Air India Express plane, were Monday diverted to Delhi and Hong Kong due to suspected technical issues. The diversions came four days after the London-bound Air India flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing around 270 people. The Air India Express flight AXB1113 bound for Ranchi returned to the Delhi airport shortly after takeoff Monday evening. After inspections, the aircraft was cleared for operations at 7.56 pm, and landed in Ranchi at 9.27 pm. According to the live flight tracking website Flightradar24, the flight was scheduled to take off at 4.25 pm, but took off at 4.39 pm and was eventually diverted back to Delhi. 'One of our flights returned to Delhi after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue. Post inspections and clearance, the aircraft continued scheduled operations,' an Air India Express spokesperson said. Flightradar24 also shows that the flight took off from Delhi after around three hours. 'We regret the inconvenience,' the spokesperson said. In the second incident, another Air India flight, a Boeing 788, heading to Delhi, had to return to Hong Kong on Monday due to a technical issue. According to Flightradar24, the AI315 flight took off from Hong Kong at 12.16 pm on June 16, considerably later than its scheduled departure time at 8.50 am. The duration of a Hong Kong to Delhi flight is around five hours. 'AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 air-returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue,' according to an Air India spokesperson. 'The flight landed safely in Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution,' the spokesperson added. The airline said that arrangements have been made for passengers to fly back to Delhi. 'Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi at the earliest. We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption,' the spokesperson said. Tata group and Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Monday asked the airline's employees to stay strong and use last week's crash of the airline's Boeing 787-8 aircraft in Ahmedabad as 'an act of force to build a safer airline', according to sources. 'We need to show resilience. We need to use this incident as an act of force to build a safer airline,' Chandrasekaran is learnt to have said.

Air India Dreamliner flight from Hong Kong to Delhi develops problems mid-air, returns
NEW DELHI: Another Boeing Dreamliner flight operated by Air India, this time the 788 model, developed technical problems midair after it took off from Hong Kong to Delhi on June 16. The pilot steered the plane AI 315 safely back to the Hong Kong International Airport. The flight departed from Hong Kong at 12.16 pm (local time), three hours behind the scheduled time and was supposed to land in Delhi at 12.20 pm IST. However, after encountering a technical snag, the AI 315 pilot returned the flight to the Hong Kong International Airport safely. An Air India spokesperson said, 'The AI315 is undergoing checks as a matter of precaution. Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination, Delhi at the earliest. We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption." The Boeing 788 is a part of the 787 series, and they are all wide-bodied aircraft and can carry upto 250 passengers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had called for enhanced inspection checks and surveillance of all 33 Boeing flights owned by Air India following the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12 that killed over 270 people. Notably, on June 15, a domestic flight with 168 passengers which took off from Delhi to Vadodara, was flown back to Indira Gandhi International Airport by the Captain who suspected a landing gear issue. The passengers had to disembark and many opted to take other flights.
