FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel Already in the Works at Marvel for 2028; AVENGERS: SECRET WARS Rumored to Be a Two-Parter — GeekTyrant

Marvel Studios may still be building hype for The Fantastic Four: First Steps , but behind the scenes, they're already thinking ahead. A new report from Variety drops the news that a sequel is already in development, and it's potentially one of the mystery titles filling Marvel's newly expanded 2028 release calendar. So what exactly is going on with Marvel's schedule? Right now, Marvel has four release dates set for 2028. That's a packed year! As fans know, the studio has shifted its approach to favor quality over quantity, and even Kevin Feige has acknowledged the need to slow things down. But, I guess they aren't sticking to that. Variety notes something intriguing: 'Other Marvel projects in development that could wind up opening in 2028 include the aforementioned Blade , Black Panther 3 , and a Fantastic Four sequel.' The Fantastic Four sequel speaks to Marvel's confidence in their upcoming film. The team will also be playing a major role in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, so if that momentum carries into a successful solo debut, a sequel will be a natural next step. This also lines up with what we've heard about the post- Avengers: Secret Wars era being a soft reboot of the MCU, a world that fully integrates the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. Speaking of Avengers: Secret Wars , there's been fan speculation that it might be split into two epic parts across 2027 and 2028. It could get the Infinity War / Endgame . But, according to insider Daniel Richtman, he hasn't heard anything about Secret Wars being split in two. Still, 2028 looks like a pivotal year for Marvel. Assuming The Fantastic Four sticks the landing, its sequel could usher the team into the modern MCU landscape—possibly setting up a run-in with Norrin Radd, aka Silver Surfer. With the multiverse saga wrapping up and the studio eyeing a fresh chapter, don't be surprised if Marvel's First Family becomes a central pillar moving forward. Bottom line: Marvel's laying the groundwork for what comes after the endgame, and the Fantastic Four seem to be leading the charge.

Damson Idris hints at Marvel talks for potential T'Challa role in Black Panther franchise

Damson Idris has hinted at ongoing conversations with Marvel Studios regarding a role in the Black Panther franchise, lending credibility to recent casting rumors. The Snowfall star, who currently appears alongside Brad Pitt in F1: The Movie, was previously speculated to be among those considered to take over the mantle of T'Challa, following the passing of original actor Chadwick Boseman. Idris initially responded to the rumors on social media with sarcasm, claiming he had also declined roles in a 007 film, a Daniel Day-Lewis collaboration, and an Eddie Murphy biopic—comments that many took lightly. However, during a recent appearance on Today (via Entertainment Weekly), Idris offered a more ambiguous response when asked directly whether he had spoken with Marvel about playing Black Panther. After hesitating, he answered: 'Yes-no.' When asked if he would take the role if offered, he confirmed with a clear 'yes.' While initial speculation centered on recasting the original T'Challa, current reports suggest Marvel may instead be casting the character's son, Toussaint (also named Prince T'Challa), introduced at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This younger character is expected to appear in an upcoming Avengers film, eventually playing a central role in Black Panther 3. Director Ryan Coogler, who directed the first two Black Panther films, expressed in a 2022 New York Times interview that he remains committed to the franchise. 'I'll do it as long as folks will have me,' Coogler said, emphasizing the cultural and commercial impact of the series.

Appearing on the show to promote "F1: The Movie", Idris was invited to play a game in which he was supposed to supply yes or no answers about his career. When co-anchor Craig Melvin asked him if he'd had any conversations about being cast as the next Black Panther, Idris groaned and answered "Yes-no!" DISNEY Craig retorted with "It probably means yes" and then asked Idris if he would play the Black Panther if asked. To that, Idris replied with "Yes". Rumors have been swirling around Idris replacing the late Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/The Black Panther for the better part of 2025. As recounted by Entertainment Weekly, the InSneider Report was the first site to claim Marvel Studios was looking to recast T'Challa in spite of initially saying that would never happen. In a since-deleted post, Idris would later sarcastically respond to a claim on X that he had turned down the role of Black Panther with, "Yes sir. I turned down 007, A co-lead film with Daniel Day Lewis and an Eddie Murphy biopic too." Boseman originated the role of T'Challa in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War", and would go on to play the hero three more times, including in 2018's "Black Panther. He died of cancer in 2020 at the age of 43. "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" followed in 2022, with Marvel vowing not to recast the role of T'Challa. Instead, the film opens with the reveal that T'Challa has died. Eventually, his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) takes over the role of Black Panther. If Idris does wind up in "Black Panther 3", he could very well find himself working with Denzel Washington for the first time. Writer/Director Ryan Coogler recently confirmed not only that he wants Washington in the threequel, but that he's writing a part specifically for the Oscar-winner. There's no word yet on who Washington might play in "Black Panther 3" or when the movie might hit theaters.
