ICC celebrates Environment Day with colourful Wednesday Fiesta

The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the Embassy of India, celebrated Environment Day with a special edition of its weekly cultural evening 'ICC Wednesday Fiesta' on June 4 at Ashoka Hall. The evening was marked by a series of vibrant performances curated by various ICC-affiliated organisations and arts centres from across Qatar, offering a rich tapestry of Indian arts and culture. The programme began with a warm welcome from Biswajit Banerji, head of finance at ICC, who set the tone for the evening. Opening remarks were delivered by Nandini Abbagouni, head of cultural activities, who underscored the significance of environmental awareness. Following this, ICC President AP Manikantan gave the presidential address, reflecting on the confluence of cultural celebration and global environmental consciousness. A highlight of the evening was the felicitation ceremony. Former ICC General Secretary, Divakar Poojary was honoured for his outstanding service to the Indian community in Qatar. This occasion also saw Ravi Shetty, president of Karnataka Sangha Qatar, and Lalit Pandey, president of the North Indian Association, being recognised for their invaluable contributions to ICC-affiliated organisations. The vote of thanks was extended by Sandeep Reddy, head of IT & Media, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the performers, organisers, and guests. The evening was elegantly hosted by Molcy, whose grace and professionalism ensured a seamless flow of the proceedings. Present at the event were ICC Vice President Shantanu Deshpande, ICC General Secretary Abraham K Joseph, the remaining members of the ICC Managing Committee, presidents of other affiliated organisations, and senior community leaders, all of whom graced the celebration with their presence. The Environment Day edition of ICC Wednesday Fiesta not only reinforced the centre's commitment to cultural promotion but also highlighted its role in raising awareness of global issues through artistic expression. The evening reflected ICC's pivotal role as a cultural nexus for the Indian community in Doha, offering a platform for unity, celebration, and meaningful engagement.
