Don't lose your rebate! Pensioners must reapply before JUNE 30

Don't lose your rebate! Pensioners must reapply before JUNE 30 Ekurhuleni pensioners are reminded to take urgent action regarding their property tax rebates. 'The municipality will cancel all existing rebates by June 30, 2025, and pensioners must submit new applications based on the updated property valuations effective from 1 July,' said Stefan Hough, chairperson of the Birchleigh Rate Payers Association. Residents should have received a Section 49 notice, which outlines the new valuation of their property. To qualify for a rebate, applicants must meet the following criteria: Be 60 years or older. Have a joint monthly income below R22 895. Not sub-let any part of the property. 'While the rebate offers significant relief, the application process is often complex and not elderly-friendly, requiring visits to multiple venues for documents and authorisations.' One-Stop Service for Birchleigh Residents To ease the process, the Birchleigh Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) is once again offering a one-stop service to assist pensioners in Birchleigh and neighbouring wards with the application process.
