Trace Cyrus Slams ‘Pathetic' Dad Billy Ray for Allegedly Skipping Mother-in-Law's Funeral
Trace Cyrus is once again airing out his grievances against father Billy Ray Cyrus, whom the Metro Station musician called a 'delusional, evil person' while accusing him of skipping an important family member's funeral Tuesday (June 10). In a post on Instagram, Trace wrote a heated message under a photo of his dad that started with, 'This man is so hungry for fame it's pathetic.' 'Even after his daughter got him a $60k private jet like he demanded.' 'You're the lamest man ever to walk planet earth,' Trace added. 'Honestly embarrassed to have ever considered you my idol. The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I'm old like you.' Billy Ray's rep had no comment when contacted by Billboard. The 'Achy Breaky Heart' singer's relationship with his adopted son has been fraught for some time now. In January, Trace shared an open letter to his dad, stating that he and his sisters were 'genuinely worried' for Billy Ray. 'You've pushed all of us away,' the younger Cyrus wrote at the time. 'We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns. You're not healthy, Dad and everyone is noticing it.' Shortly afterward, Billy Ray posted that he was 'praying' for his family. After marrying Tish in 1993, the country star — who is also Dad to a son named Christopher from a previous relationship — adopted his then-wife's two kids, Trace and Brandi. The former couple welcomed three more children: Miley, Noah and Braison. Billy Ray and Tish divorced in 2022, and rumors of a rift in the Cyrus family have ebbed and flowed pretty much ever since. In a recent interview with The New York Times, however, Miley said that she was no longer 'estranged' from her father, adding, 'My dad and I have had our challenges over the years … I'm at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.' Tish is now remarried to actor Dominic Purcell, while Billy Ray is dating actress Elizabeth Hurley after ending his seven-month marriage to singer-songwriter Firerose in June 2024. In that same NYT interview, the 'Flowers' singer commented on her parents' new relationships, telling the publication, 'Now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing.' Billy Ray Cyrus Shares Throwback Family Photos for Father's Day
Billy Ray Cyrus is celebrating Father's Day with a trip down memory lane. The 'Achy Breaky Heart' star posted several family photos in honor of the day on Instagram and X, and wished a 'Happy Father's Day' to all those around him. The mini picture collection includes snapshots of Billy Ray and family members throughout the years. One cute highlight is a very young Miley Cyrus giving the camera quite a serious gaze while riding a pink, toddler-sized trike with handlebar tassels. 'Stand Still'. Happy Father's Day to everyone ! Mothers… sisters ….brothers ….friends included !' Cyrus captioned the picture slideshow on Sunday (June 15). Apparently not shown in the country singer's Father's Day post is son Trace, who's seemingly had a fraught relationship as of late with Billy Ray, whom he recently said is 'the lamest man ever to walk planet earth.' The Metro Station musician referred to him as a 'delusional, evil person' last week — claiming he skipped the funeral of his 'Mammie,' the late mother of Tish Cyrus, back when Billy Ray was still married to Tish. His comments came upon seeing that Billy Ray 'flew to Italy for a fashion show' (with girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley). 'This man is so hungry for fame it's pathetic,' wrote Trace on June 10. Miley's had more positive thoughts to share. In an interview with The New York Times, the Something Beautiful singer shared candid remarks on her father's current relationship with the English actress. 'As I've gotten older, I'm respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents,' she said. 'My mom's really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard,' Miley explained. 'And so I think I took on some of my mom's hurt as my own, because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain. But now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing.' 'I'm being an adult about it,' she added. 'At first it's hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy.' My child self has caught up.' See Billy Ray's Father's Day post on Instagram here. Trace Cyrus's Scathing Instagram Post About His "Evil" Dad, Billy Ray, Is So Wild That You Have To Read It
Trace Cyrus is really at odds with his dad. On June 10, Miley Cyrus's older brother posted an Instagram calling out their dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, with a fairly heartbreaking accusation, claiming that he skipped their grandmother's funeral to attend a fashion show in Italy. "This man is so hungry for fame it's pathetic," Trace wrote with a photo of his dad. "He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn't come to LA for Mammie's funeral while he was still married to my mom." Billy Ray and Tish were married for almost 30 years before they split in 2022. Trace is one of Billy Ray's five kids with Tish Cyrus, along with Brandi Cyrus, 38, Miley Cyrus, 32, Braison Cyrus, 31, and Noah Cyrus, 25. "Even after his daughter got him a 60k private jet like he demanded," Trace continued, "then he still didn't come even after the plane was paid for." Related: Here's Why People Are Raising Their Eyebrows Over Chris Pratt's Post About The Fatal Shooting Of His 'Parks And Recreation' Costar Jonathan Joss Mammie is Tish's mother, Loretta Finley, who died in 2020, two years before she and Billy Ray split. "You're the lamest man to ever walk planet earth," Trace added. "Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol. The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I'm old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it." Related: 21 Times Celebrities Revealed Wildly Juicy, Shady, Or Even Disturbing Things In Interviews Following up on his post about Billy Ray, Trace shared an Instagram story, writing, "Also why does he think that homeless hairstyle looks good? So weird." One person in the comments suggested Trace's comments "seem like a cry for help from a son that desperately needs attention from his father," which prompted a response from the Metro Station singer. "I'm past the point of even caring if I ever speak to him again," he said. "I've surpassed him in every metric as a man on this planet," Trace continued. "There's nothing left to learn from his [sic] except from his mistakes. I had hope at one point but I'm convinced he's finally a lost cause." "I'll continue to thrive and as the oldest son of the family the Cyrus last name will continue through me and my many children I plan to have. I will raise them the right way and be a part of their life no matter what the circumstances are." On the same day as Trace's posts, Miley revealed on an episode of Monica Lewinsky's Reclaiming podcast how she fixed her "hard" family feud with Billy Ray. "Half of us weren't speaking to each other at one point," Miley said, "and we cleaned all that up." She said of her parents' divorce, "In that situation, I watched what happens when you don't clean things up as they're happening. They really do stack, and then all of a sudden you go, 'Oh my god, it's been 10 years, and this is a mess that I barely even know how to start. This is emotional hoarding.'" "I just kind of bust through the pile that's stacked and just go, 'I'm here. You're here. Let's start by having a good time together,'" Miley shared. "And then as we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life, then we'll just be in a better place to have these conversations. 'Cause I'd rather get it balanced first." "We're so messy we didn't even do any of that," Miley said, responding to Monica's question about family therapy. "To get each other in a room to even get to counseling would have been a war. So, it was easier to just go, 'White flag,'" she continued. "I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me." Trace Cyrus blasts ‘evil' dad Billy Ray for skipping grandma's funeral to attend fashion show
Trace Cyrus slammed his dad Billy Ray for skipping his grandma's funeral to to attend a fashion show. 'This man is so hungry for fame it's pathetic,' the singer, 36, wrote alongside a photo of the 'Hannah Montana' actor via Instagram, adding that 'he really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn't come to LA for Mammie's funeral while he was still married to my mom.' Trace continued, alleging that 'even after his daughter got him a $60k private jet like he demanded,' the country star 'still didn't come,' despite the jet allegedly having been paid for. 'You're the lamest man ever to walk planet earth,' Trace continued in the screed on Tuesday. 'Honestly embarrassed to have ever considered you my idol.' After inserting a clown emoji, Trace remarked, 'the best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I'm old like you.' Trace concluded the post by urging his father to 'get right with God. You need it.' He captioned the social media rant with a clown emoji and disabled comments. Via Instagram Stories, Trace also took a swipe at his father's famous long hairstyle. 'And why does he think that homeless hairstyle looks good? So weird,' he wrote. Additionally, Trace shared a screenshot of a fan comment suggesting the rant was 'a cry for help from a son that desperately needs attention from his father.' 'Bullying him isn't the answer btw,' the commenter added. Trace responded, writing that he's 'past the point of even caring if I ever speak to him again.' He added that he has 'nothing left to learn' from Billy Ray 'except from his mistakes' and labeled him a 'lost cause.' 'I'll continue to thrive as the oldest son of the family,' he wrote. 'The Cyrus name will continue through me and my many children I plan to have.' Trace concluded the post by writing that he will 'raise them the right way and be a part of their life no matter what the circumstances.' Trace's mom, Tish, 58, divorced Billy Ray, 63, in 2022, igniting an ongoing family feud. Tish's mother, Loretta Finley, died in 2020 at the age of 85. The former couple share kids Brandi, 38, and Trace — whom Billy Ray adopted when he married Tish — as well as Miley, 32, Braison, 31, and Noah, 25. Billy Ray also has a son, Christopher Cody, 33, from a previous relationship. Trace's rant comes on the heels of Miley's comments about their 'messy' family — and how they avoided therapy amid the Cyrus clan drama. 'We're so messy, we didn't even do any of that,' the 'Wrecking Ball' songstress joked during Tuesday's episode of Monica Lewinsky's 'Reclaiming' podcast. 'Just to get each other into a room to get to counseling would have been a war,' she recalled of their 'really difficult … dark decade.' She explained that while 'half of [the family] weren't speaking to each other at one point,' she 'had a lot of loyalty to' mom Tish during the fallout from the high-profile divorce. Tish went on to marry Dominic Purcell in 2023, while Billy Ray married and divorced singer Firerose between 2023 and 2024. He's now dating supermodel Elizabeth Hurley. Trace previously admitted to tension with his father when he called out his brother Braison over their dad following his erratic performance during president Trump's inauguration ball. 'I've spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,' Braison wrote via Instagram Stories in January. 'After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I'm grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make this record.' Trace took to his own Instagram Stories to respond when a fan queried, 'Braison is posting your dad is happy and healthy. I'm confused?' The guitarist wrote simply, 'Birds of a feather flock together.' Amid the Cyrus family's messages of concern, Trace accused his father of threatening legal action over their public expressions of concern. 'Dad my message was beyond loving,' he wrote via Instagram in January. 'I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don't want to put your business out there like that. But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.'
