Free training to encourage more cycling in Hull
Free cycle training is on offer for people in Hull. The City Explorer sessions aim to get more people cycling and boost confidence, Hull City Council said. Trial events are being held at West Park on Saturday 14 June and East Park on Sunday 15 June as part of Cycling UK's Bike Week include sessions for beginners and a guided cycling experience around the city. The training will be delivered by qualified instructors from the council's contractor, First Step Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at the authority, said he was delighted to be trialling the scheme during Bike Week which he described as "the UK's biggest celebration of cycling"."Those attending these initial sessions will help us shape the kind of experience that people will find most useful in supporting them to choose cycling, whether it be for leisure, to run local errands or for their daily commute," he include riding over varied terrain as well as practical road cycling skills in real city book, visit the First Step Sports Group website. Bike Week Winnipeg kicks off with Reconciliation Ride
The Bike Week Winnipeg launch ride ended at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the U of M on June 8, 2025. (Zachary Kitchen/CTV News Winnipeg) Bike Week has officially launched in Winnipeg, with members of the public and organizers partaking in a special ride Sunday to mark the occasion. Termed Reconciliation Ride, cyclists gathered at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and peddled to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba. Bike Week Winnipeg grew out of Bike to Work Day Winnipeg, first held in 2007, and is described as a 'weeklong celebration of the bicycle and everyone that rides,' according to their website. The week-long celebration from June 8 to June 14 aims to helps change the culture of riding bikes and make it more accepted as a form of transportation. Bike to Work Day will be held on June 10. Adrian Alphonso, ride leader, said the week-long event has been the 'best way' to engage with the Winnipeg cycling community, providing different educational experiences and opportunities to learn more about cycling in the city. Alphonso said the group was able to make the roughly 10-kilometre journey entirely on infrastructure dedicated to cyclists. Free bike health checks to take place in Wrexham next week
The event allows anyone to bring their bike to the rear car park at Plas Gororau in Wrexham Technology Park on June 10 for a free Bike Doctor session. This will run between 7.45am and 5.30pm. A team from The Mobile Bike Mechanics will carry out safety checks, perform minor repairs, and offer advice on any major work needed. The initiative is part of Bike Week, which runs from June 9 to June 15. It is funded by the Welsh Government's Active Travel Fund, through Wrexham County Borough Council, and organised by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Senior health improvement practitioner, Robin Ranson, said: "We hope this opportunity will help more people in Wrexham to get on their bikes – whether travelling to and from work, or cycling outside of work time – and to reap the health and wellbeing benefits of getting active and moving more." As a signatory of the North Wales Healthy Travel Charter, Wrexham Council has pledged to promote cycling and other healthier travel options. Members of the health board's Public Health Dietetics and Health Improvement teams will also be present at the event to offer lifestyle and wellbeing advice.
