2 with Chinese link held for duping woman in share scam

New Delhi: Two men were arrested for allegedly duping people by offering high returns on stock market investments. Police have found that the men, along with other gang members, were in contact with Chinese scammers and transferred money to them. A woman from Ashok Vihar filed a police complaint that she was duped of Rs 21 lakh by fraudsters who promised her lucrative returns through share market investments. The scammers showed her a fake application similar to a real brokerage platform. "The victim transferred the entire amount in three separate transactions to bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. They were in contact through social media," police said. A case under Section 318 (cheating) of BNS was registered. The social media and bank accounts were found linked to multiple foreign countries. There were also discrepancies in the addresses of the bank account holders. DCP (northwest) Bhisham Singh said Pawan (29) and Mankiraat Dhillon (36) were arrested from Punjab's Mohali. Pawan told police that he was in contact with Chinese nationals and supplied them with bank account details collected from people in his area. Dhillon opened a current account in his wife's name using a fake address. The duo travelled to Nepal, where they received proceeds of the crime in a bank account with the help of the Chinese. An air ticket, hotel bill, chequebook and passbook of the alleged bank account, along with the SIM card linked to the account and the handset, were recovered.

Ashok Vihar and Wazirpur join Delhi's demolition overdrive: Here are other areas witnessing clean-up measures

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) initiated a demolition drive the national capital's Delhi Ashok Vihar and Wazirpur on Monday, with police security. "A demolition drive is ongoing in Ashok Vihar. About 250 police officers are deployed there," stated DCP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh. A Special Task Force (STF) unit was deployed at Ashok Vihar's Jailorwala Bagh area on Monday morning with excavators to conduct the clearance operation. More than 200 residences built on government property were scheduled to be demolished. Furthermore, there was a parallel operation near Wazirpur's railway line to clear unauthorised structures. "Two companies of paramilitary force, along with Delhi Police personnel, are present on the spot to ensure that law and order is not breached," confirmed a senior police officer. Live Events This operation marks the second clearance activity in the area this month. Following the previous operation on June 2, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated, "If a railway line is encroached and there is an accident, who will be responsible?" Demolition drives in Kalkaji, Madarsi Camp Earlier this month, DDA undertook a demolition drive at Bhoomihin Camp, located in Kalkaji area following directions from the High Court on June 11. The DDA had earlier issued an official notice to all residents of Bhoomihin Camp, directing them to vacate their premises in view of the demolition of illegal huts,. Residents were given three days, June 8, 9 and 10 to vacate their huts. The notice stated that failure to comply will lead to demolition action by the authorities. The operation was carried out to resolve the flooding issues caused by the narrowed drain, which obstructs water flow during heavy rains. On June 1, a demolition drive at Madrasi camp in Jangpura, South East Delhi, was conducted by the authorities, on the orders of the Delhi High Court, to clear encroachments in the area along the Barapulla drain. Stay on Batla House demolition drive On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court granted an interim stay on the demolition of six properties in the Batla House area of Okhla in South East Delhi. Residents of these properties have challenged the notices issued by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in May 2025. Petitioners claimed that out of these six properties, some are outside Khasra Number 279, whiddle others are within this Khasra. Residents of these properties said that their properties are covered within the PM Uday Scheme. In an order passed on Monday, Justice Tejas Karia ordered to maintain the status quo till the next date of hearing. Meanwhile, the High Court has issued notice to the DDA and sought a response within four weeks. Petitions are to be heard on July 10 before roster bench. (With agency inputs)

Police detain 36 ‘illegal' Bangladeshi nationals, initiate deportation process

The Delhi Police has recently apprehended 36 'illegal' Bangladeshi nationals from south Delhi's Bharat Nagar, said an official on Monday. The police have also initiated the deportation process. The immigrants, including 19 adults and 17 children, were detained on June 13. According to the police, they were living without valid documents, visas or permits in violation of the Foreigners Act, of 1946. 'It is during the interrogation that one of the detainees confessed that they had entered India from Bangladesh via land and then helped us identify the rest of the people illegally living in the area,' said a senior official. 'Thirteen identity cards of the Bangladeshi nationals and seven mobile phones loaded with the banned IMO app, often used for cross-border communication, were recovered from their possession,' said DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh. 'They were mostly living in makeshift houses that usually do not require legal backing or documentation,' he said, adding that the deportation process has been initiated. According to the police, the group had previously worked at a brick kiln in Haryana's Mewat and fled the region fearing police action there and they temporarily settled on footpaths in Delhi, frequently changing locations in an attempt to avoid detection.

Police catch 36 ‘Bangladeshis' in north-west delhi for illegal stay

New Delhi: Thirty-six people, believed to be Bangladeshis residing in Delhi illegally with no travel documents, were apprehended in Bharat Nagar in the north-west of the city, according to Delhi police. The police said mobile phones that contained banned messaging apps, that allowed them to communicate with relatives in Bangladesh, were found on them. The foreign cell of the police apprehended found them to be illegally residing in Delhi following a search on June 13 in Bharat Nagar. Deputy commissioner of police (north-west) Bhisham Singh said the operation began after the police got information about the presence of an illegal Bangladeshi national residing in Wazirpur. The team cordoned off the area and carried out a verification drive, thoroughly checking approximately 25 footpaths and 32 lanes. During the operation, one person was apprehended and questioned. Though he initially tried to mislead the officers, he later admitted to being Bangladeshi residing illegally in India. Based on his disclosure, more people were identified and detained. Among the 36 apprehended were 19 adults and 17 children, all residing in the Wazirpur JJ Colony. They had no valid travel documents, visas or permits, which is a violation of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and other immigration laws. During questioning, the group revealed that they previously worked in a brick manufacturing unit in Mewat, Haryana, but fled fearing arrest by Haryana police. Since then, they had moved around, living on various footpaths and were attempting to secure rented accommodation.

Delhi Police arrest 66 undocumented ‘Bangladeshi immigrants'

The Delhi Police has arrested 66 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants living in the Wazirpur Jhuggi Jhopdi Colony and New Subzi Mandi areas of the national capital, PTI quoted an officer as saying on Monday. Among those arrested are 20 men, 16 women and 30 children. They were apprehended on Friday during a special drive to identify undocumented foreign nationals living in informal settlements, reported The Indian Express. The police said that those arrested had recently relocated to the northwestern parts of Delhi from the Nuh district of Haryana, where they worked in brick kilns. 'These families had relocated to Delhi following intensified enforcement actions against illegal immigrants by the police, as well as widespread media coverage of such operations,' Bhisham Singh, the deputy commissioner of police (northwest), was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. Singh claimed that the families started living in densely populated and informal localities to avoid detection. Their arrest is part of an ongoing drive to detect undocumented foreign nationals in Delhi, the officer added. On December 10, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had ordered that a special drive be launched against alleged undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh. After the order, the police have arrested several persons whom they claim are undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants. On May 30, the Delhi Police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals who were living in North Delhi's Narela without valid documents. A day earlier, five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, were arrested from Anand Vihar in East Delhi, reported The Hindu. The Delhi Police's Crime Branch on May 16 said that it had arrested nine undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, including five children, from Auchungi village in the northwestern part of the city. On May 3, the police said they had busted a network to bring Bangladeshi nationals to India without required documents. Forty-seven undocumented Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian nationals were reportedly arrested as part of the operation. India's push back of 'foreigners' The arrests come against the backdrop of India 'pushing back' alleged undocumented immigrants to Bangladesh. On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his government has ' pushed back ' 303 'foreigners' and will continue to do so under the 1950 Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act. 'Another 35 is in our hand and they will be sent once the [flood] waters recede,' the Bharatiya Janata Party leader told the state Assembly. 'The Supreme Court clearly said the illegal expulsion act is valid and if the government wishes, they can expel the foreigners without going to Foreigners Tribunals.' The Supreme Court, while hearing the challenges to Section 6A of the 1955 Citizenship Act, had said that 'there is no legal requirement for the Assam government to always approach the judiciary in order to identify foreigners', Sarma had told reporters on Saturday. In October, the Supreme Court had upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the 1955 Citizenship Act. Section 6A was introduced as a special provision under the Act when the Assam Accord was signed between the Union government and leaders of the Assam Movement in 1985. It allows foreigners who came to Assam between January 1, 1966, and March 25, 1971, to seek Indian citizenship. Indigenous groups in Assam have alleged that this provision in the Act had legalised infiltration by migrants from Bangladesh. The chief minister also told the Assembly that two to four persons, who had received a stay from the Supreme Court and the High Court against their deportations, were also 'pushed back'. 'Through the diplomatic channel, we have also brought them back,' Sarma added.
