Mayor demands removal of corporator Anwar Qadri
Indore: Indore mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav on Friday wrote to the divisional commissioner to remove corporator Anwar Qadri from his post, citing serious allegations including sedition, a history of criminal activity, and recent involvement in communal sloganeering. "The demand for Qadri's dismissal comes in the wake of escalating tensions and protests within the city," Bhargav said. He added that his letter to Indore divisional commissioner explicitly references an FIR registered against Qadri, his alleged old criminal record, and accusations of promoting and funding 'love jihad'. The complaint against Qadri was reportedly initiated by BJP corporators, including Bharat Singh Raghuvanshi, who submitted their grievances through the appeal committee. Mayor Bhargav's recommendation calls for Qadri's immediate dismissal, specifically invoking the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1956, which allows for the removal of a corporator under certain circumstances. Banganga police registered a case against Qadri for allegedly 'funding' two persons for 'Love Jihad'. TNN

Civic body begins construction of first school on its own land
Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has commenced construction of its first-ever school on its own land. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav laid the foundation stone for the school on Saturday, emphasising the corporation's commitment to providing quality education, including mandatory Sanskrit and Sanatan (ancient Indian) culture education. "Indore Municipal Corporation has always been responsible for maintenance and renovation of schools, but this is the first time it is building a new school on its own land," said the mayor. He said until now, the IMC's efforts were limited to repairing existing schools or constructing new classrooms. This new initiative marks a significant step towards making education and healthcare accessible to the poor and needy. Bhargav expressed the IMC's ambition for the school to be completed on time and equipped with modern amenities akin to private institutions. The school will feature smart classes and LED screens to ensure high-quality education for students. "Our endeavour is to provide better facilities in both education and health sectors to the poor and needy," he reiterated. The mayor emphasised that the new school would not only be a centre for education but also a place for imparting cultural values and moral education, in line with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The new school project commenced with an estimated cost of nearly Rs 3 crore. The mayor also highlighted the IMC's significant initiatives in healthcare, mentioning establishment of 65 Sanjeevani Kendras (health centres) where 200 types of medicines are provided free of cost. He announced that new health centres in Ward 85 and Ward 71/72 would be inaugurated soon. Besides them, a sewage treatment plant (STP) is being constructed in Sirpur to resolve drainage issues in Ward 84 and 85.

WATCH: India successfully tests low-cost ‘Bhargavastra' to neutralise drone swarms
In a notable advancement for India's defence capabilities, Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has successfully developed and tested 'Bhargavastra' — a low-cost, hard-kill counter-drone system equipped with indigenously designed micro rockets and missiles. The system marks a significant leap forward in neutralising the growing threat posed by drone swarms, especially in sensitive and high-altitude operational zones. The 'Bhargavastra' underwent rigorous field trials at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur on 13 May, in the presence of senior officials from the Army Air Defence (AAD). Over the course of three separate tests, the system demonstrated its lethal precision and reliability. Two trials involved single-rocket firings, while a third test showcased salvo mode capability, launching two rockets within a two-second window. All four micro rockets achieved their intended performance parameters, underlining the technology's operational readiness. Engineered to detect and eliminate small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at distances of up to 2.5 kilometres, the Bhargavastra system employs a two-tiered approach. The first layer features unguided micro rockets with a 20-metre lethal radius, designed to tackle mass drone incursions. Complementing this is a second layer of precision-guided micro missiles — previously validated through independent tests — offering surgical accuracy against high-value or elusive aerial targets. Adapted for deployment across varied terrains, including high-altitude zones exceeding 5,000 metres, Bhargavastra is both modular and scalable. The system can be customised to incorporate an additional soft-kill layer comprising jamming and spoofing techniques. Such an integrated approach provides a comprehensive shield against UAV threats for all branches of India's armed forces. SDAL highlighted the system's indigenous origins, emphasising that all components — from detection sensors to strike mechanisms — were developed domestically. The architecture allows the integration of multiple sensor systems, including radar, electro-optical (EO), and radio frequency (RF) receivers, enabling layered air defence cover tailored to mission-specific requirements. Central to the system's effectiveness is its state-of-the-art Command-and-Control Centre, which integrates C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) technologies. Capable of detecting low radar cross-section threats between 6 and 10 kilometres away, the integrated EO/IR suite ensures precision tracking and identification. The system also supports seamless integration with existing network-centric warfare infrastructure, enhancing real-time operational coordination. According to its developers, Bhargavastra stands out globally for its cost-effectiveness and versatility. While several advanced nations are working on similar micro missile counter-drone technologies, an indigenous, modular system with proven swarm-neutralisation capability like Bhargavastra has yet to be fielded anywhere else.
