A free music festival is set to bring a full day of live entertainment to the heart of a County Durham community. Party in the Park will return to Spennymoor this year and take place in Jubilee Park on Saturday, August 9, from 1pm to 10.30pm. The event, organised by Spennymoor Town Council, promises a packed programme of music, family activities, and summer fun, and will feature a full line-up of tribute acts and performers. Non Stop 90s (Image: Supplied) This year's festival will also shine a spotlight on North East talent, including Spennymoor's own Ste Johnson. Mr Johnson, a singer-songwriter who has supported artists such as Joss Stone, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Chesney Hawkes, said: "It's fantastic to get the chance to play this open-air gig to so many people in my hometown. "It will help round off an exciting summer, with the release of my new EP Better Days, a headline gig at the Cluny, and a string of summer festival shows." Ste Johnson (Image: Supplied) Mr Johnson will perform a solo acoustic set featuring original songs and crowd-pleasing covers. Other acts on the bill include Fleety Hack, the Sam Fender Experience, Coyote Wilde, Jackson Live, Joel Coombes as Elton John, Non-Stop 90s, Bon Jordi, Jay Francis as George Michael, and Absolutely Abba. Councillor Liz Maddison, Mayor of Spennymoor Town Council, said: "Party in the Park is one of the town's magnet events that brings people into the heart of our community. Jay Francis (Image: Supplied) "It's a day when families, friends, and neighbours come together to have fun, enjoy incredible music and local talent — and best of all, it's free." Councillor Billy McAloon, leader of the town council, said: "This is exactly the kind of positive, inclusive event we're proud to host in Spennymoor. "Jubilee Park is the perfect setting, and with such a fantastic line-up, this will be a day to remember. Country Fest artist coming to Canton. First ticketed show announced for Centennial Plaza

CANTON − The first ticketed concert at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton will be a feel-good party. Niko Moon, who blends country, pop and Caribbean sounds, will bring his upbeat island vacation vibe to the outdoor venue Sept. 19. Hometown Jams, an Indiana-based promoter, announced the concert Monday morning. Tickets go on sale to the general public on June 20 through and at Presale tickets will be available starting June 17. Moon is a newer musical artist, releasing his first album, "Good Time" in 2021 before following up with "Better Days" in 2024. And he's already released three songs this year to be included on a new album. His music blends easy-listening pop with country music and Caribbean and hip-hop influences. Moon also draws comparisons to Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett. Popular songs include "Good Time," "Paradise to Me" and "Way Back." "Good Time" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, and the YouTube video for the song has 93 million views while "Paradise to Me" has tallied 21 million views. Prior to going solo, Moon was a member of Sir Rosevelt alongside country singer-songwriter Zac Brown and Ben Simonetti. Sir Rosevelt was a dance-pop side project of Brown of the Zac Brown Band. Sir Rosevelt released a self-titled album in 2017. Moon also co-produced the Zac Brown Band's 2015 album Jekyll + Hyde, as well as the band's 2017 studio release, "Welcome Home." The Texas native also has penned songs for Dierks Bentley Rascal Flatts, Morgan Wallen, Pitbull and others. Boasting 233,000 followers on Facebook and 337,000 followers on Instagram, the Nashville-based artist was named SESAC country songwriter of the year in 2021. The event will be the first full-blown, ticketed concert at Centennial Plaza, following a change in management of the downtown space. ASM Global, the company that operates the Canton Memorial Civic Center, is now in charge of managing the venue and booking entertainment there under a lease agreement with the city of Canton. 'The City of Canton and ASM Global are excited to combine the amazing backdrop of Centennial Plaza with the feel good, infectious energy of a Niko Moon concert," said Blake Schilling, general manager of the Civic Center. Schilling said ASM Global and the city have created a preliminary security plan with the Canton Police Department and Police Chief John Gabbard for the concert. Security will be provided by both Canton police and the Cleveland-based security and crowd management company CSC. Capacity for the Centennial Plaza concert is estimated at 2,000 people, Schilling said. The concert will be moved to the Civic Center if there's inclement weather, he said. Good music and good eats Blues Fest 2.0. New version of popular event returning to downtown Canton The concert is being presented by Hometown Jams, a company founded in 2018 that produces entertainment in communities across the Midwest. Hometown Jams says its focus is "on creating memorable experiences and connecting fans and artists ... (and) delivering big city vibes without the hassle − right in your backyard." 'Niko brings a feel-good energy that's impossible not to move to,' Tyrus Joseforsky, founder of Hometown Jams, said in a news release. 'There's no better artist to help us kick things off in Ohio than in Canton with Niko Moon − and Centennial Plaza is the perfect backdrop for what's going to be an unforgettable night.' 'This show is the beginning of something special for Canton,' Joseforsky said. 'We've had our eyes on this city for a while, and Niko Moon is the perfect way to say, 'We're here.'' Canton will be a stop on a summerlong tour for Moon, which includes concerts in Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York, Virginia, New Jersey, Indiana, Oregon and Texas. Moon is scheduled to perform in Fort Thomas, Kentucky the day before his Stark County appearance. Moon recently performed in Stark County, filling the second slot on June 12 at The Country Fest, a four-day country music festival that draws thousands of fans and campers to Clay's Resort Jellystone Park near Canal Fulton. Tracks included the catchy and infectiously melodic, "Boat Song," a recent single. Another 2025 release, "I Love This Beach" embodies the same laid-back, flip-flop sandal, backyard party vibe. Moon's most recent single, "Sandcastles" is a carefree island country ballad ready-made for concert crowd singalongs and arm waving. Playing under a sunlit blue sky, Moon strolled barefoot across the Country Fest stage and catwalk in a matching Hawaiian-style shirt and shorts. A yellow plastic cup was often in one hand and a microphone in the other. Moon also strummed an acoustic guitar on a few songs. Fans can expect the same relaxed atmosphere when he performs in Canton in what Hometown Jams describes as "an immersive outdoor experience." The show also will feature food vendors and cold beverages, the announcement said. Angry Ginge tears into Carlos Tevez after Soccer Aid as he shows off bloody arm

Angry Ginge slammed Carlos Tevez as he showed off his bloody arm injury after the two clashed at Soccer Aid. The social media star took to Instagram after the match - in which England crumbled to the World XI in the second half - to reveal the aftermath of his run-in with the Argentine. "Cheers Tevez. Twat," fired the Manchester United fan as he showed off a bleeding scratch on his arm from the changing room. Tevez, who played for Man United and Manchester City during his professional career, bagged four goals before Big Zuu grabbed his team's winner. Despite being on the losing end, Angry Ginge was named Man of the Match for his performance at the back, which included a spectacular goal line clearance. The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester to an audience of over 70,000 people. The match ended 5-4 to World XI FC, stealing the win back and keeping the overall lead with 8-6 wins since the inaugural 2006 match. Kicking off the game, Sam Thompson officially completed his 'Match Ball Mission', which saw the ball travel over 270 miles by foot and by bike from Stamford Bridge last week and arrive safely at Old Trafford ready for the match today. During the show, the final total raised from Sam's challenge was announced, at £ 2,075,564.46. During half time, actor and Soccer Aid supporter Daniel Mays addressed the stadium crowd and viewers at home with a special speech, galvanising donations to UNICEF. Followed by an emotional and show stopping performance by Dermot Kennedy singing his hit song 'Better Days', supported with backing vocals from Hallé Children's Choir. It was another enthralling contest between England and the Soccer Aid World XI FC, as Lioness Jill Scott captained once again, leading the way for Team England, whilst Nemanja Vidic skippered for the Soccer Aid World XI FC for the first time. Team England started strong, as Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney scored the fastest ever goal in Soccer Aid history in the fourth minute. Not all was lost for World XI as Angry Ginge jumped to rescue goalkeeper Joe Hart with an unbelievable save in the 19th minute. Just before the half time whistle blew, Lioness Toni Duggan, in her Soccer Aid debut, snuck in an exceptional second goal for the England squad – ending the first half on 2-0 to England. Going into the second half, former England striker Jermaine Defoe scored again for Team England, seamlessly flicked the ball into the left corner of the net, bringing the score to 3-0. Former professional footballer Carlos Tevez wowed the crowds by scoring an unbelievable two goals in rapid succession for World XI. As the 64th minute hit Defoe knocked the ball in for the second time for England – making him now the top scorer in Soccer Aid history. Much to Paddy McGuinness's dismay Carlos Teves scored another two times bringing the game to an even to 4-4. As the teams were neck and neck, Big Zuu secured his first ever Soccer Aid goal by sneaking the ball into the net bringing the game to a final score of 5-4 to World XI.

Behind the music - Nathan O'Regan

Irish singer-songwriter Nathan O'Regan has released his new single, Better Days. We asked him the BIG questions . . . It's the second track to be lifted from his forthcoming debut album Olive Branch, set for release 19 September on Belfast label Zenith Cafe Records. Having just completed a support tour with Lucy Spraggan, Nathan will be performing at festivals over the summer before embarking on the Olive Branch tour in September and October, including a date at The Workmans Cellar, Dublin on 8 October and other Irish shows including Mullingar, Castlebar, Limerick and Belfast. He wrote Better Day for his partner when she was pregnant with their first son. "It was written just before we had Arthur, and we were living in this tiny little house just outside of Belfast. It felt like we were boxed in," he says. "You couldn't step in a straight line, you were climbing over things to get anywhere, and we just didn't know where a baby was even going to fit. I just wanted to tell her everything was going to be ok eventually and to keep the faith." Tell us three things about yourself . . . I was born in Cork but moved to Belfast when I left school. I'm the proud Dad of two little boys, Arthur, who's three and Oscar, who's five months old. I love cooking and think if I didn't work in music I would have wanted to work in a kitchen of some sort. How would you describe your music? I'm so incredibly bad at answering this question but I'll try: I try as much as I can to keep my lyrics conversational. If I can't imagine myself saying it, then I normally won't sing it either. Style wise, people have told me I sound a bit like James Morrison, Gregory Porter, Springsteen. Most of the stuff that I think has informed the music I like making are probably from my Dad's record collection. Marc Cohn, Jackson Browne, Billy Joel all have left big impressions on me. Storytelling at its finest with the lyric front and centre at all times. More recently, I'm obsessed with Lake Street Dive, Leif Vollebekk, Stephen Wilson Jr, to name a few. What was the first gig you ever went to? Eric Clapton Live At The Marquee in Cork. I think I was about 14 or 15. I remember the day of the gig, I had the flu or something similar working on me and my Mum thought I shouldn't go but I was adamant that I wasn't going to miss it. We went really early to get near the front and about 20 mins into Clapton's set, it was so hot in there that I fainted. I remember waking up being carried by a paramedic who was screaming "WHAT DID YOU TAKE?" at me. Their instincts were correct so I replied honestly, "two Lemsips." What was the first record you ever bought? American Idiot by Green Day, followed quickly by everything else they'd released. I used to sit for hours with them on repeat and try and work out the guitar parts. I was obsessed What's your favourite song right now? This is going to sound super specific, but right now its a song called Dela by Johnny Clegg. We've been letting our son Arthur watch some movies and he's obsessed with George Of The Jungle and there's a scene at the end where that song plays and he absolutely loves it. It's the first non-nursery rhyme song that he genuinely loves and it brings me a lot of joy watching him dance around and sing it. I'm not sure if I love the song or if I just love that we're not being asked to play Baby Shark all day long anymore, but in any case, it's a banger! Favourite lyric of all time? I have too many to pick just one, but the first one that comes to mind is from a song called Elegy by Leif Vollebekk where he sings, "Gonna find a way to climb out of this basement / Gonna find out what that smile on your face meant." More just from a place of being a fan of songwriting than what that specifically means, but I've never heard someone rhyme "basement" with "face meant" before and it completely blew me away! It's pretty elite stuff I thought.
