Train services disrupted after boulders fell on track near Sakleshpur
The train services connecting Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya were disrupted on Saturday morning after boulders fell on the track between Yedakumari and Shirabagilu stations due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats. The railway staff noticed the boulders on the track around 4.23 a.m. on Saturday. The services of three trains were disrupted. The officials stopped the Bengaluru-Kannur Express train (16511) at Kadagaravalli station. Similarly, Bengaluru-Murudeshwara Express (16585) and Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central (07377) were stopped at Sakleshpur station. The officials arranged for breakfast and tea for the stranded passengers. Services resume Huge boulders had fallen on the track at multiple locations. The officials sent a material truck to clear the track, and the clearing took five hours after which, the officials certified the track fit to run with a speed limit of 20 kmph at 9.10 a.m. Later, the train services resumed. Several parts of Sakleshpur taluk received heavy rains on the day. The rain gauges at Hanbal, Hettur, Yeslur in Sakleshpur taluk recorded 55.6 mm, 124.8 mm, and 49.7 mm of rainfall, respectively, in the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.

After boulders fell on the railway track between Yedakumari and Shirabagilu railway stations, services of three trains were disrupted on Saturday (June 21, 2025) morning. The Bengaluru-Kannur Express train (16511) has been stopped at Kadagaravalli. Bengaluru-Murudeshwara Express (16585) and Vijayapura – Mangaluru Central (07377) have been stopped at Sakaleshpur. Boulders fell on the track around 4.23 a.m on Saturday, forcing the authorities to regulate the trains, said a communique from the South Western Railway. The officers have made arrangements for drinking water, breakfast and snacks for the passengers stranded, the communique added.
