Report reveals C.J. Mosley wanted one last run with the Ravens before retiring

Report reveals C.J. Mosley wanted one last run with the Ravens before retiring C.J. Mosley tried to come home to the Ravens before retiring. Sometimes, we forget that these are people we are talking about. In today's age, we've analyzed many of their games since they were playing in high school. They aren't just the Baltimore Ravens. They're gladiators. They're superheroes in pads and helmets, but at the same time, they are also people. The same guys we reduce to Madden ratings and Fantasy football points have families. They have mothers and children. They have feelings. Sure, sometimes we look at them and all we think about is their cap number, but that isn't fair. The Ravens have long been a group of characters who have character. Look at them. This organization reinvented the term 'swagger', but every once in a while, they bond with us, both fans and the media. Enter C.J. Mosley. C.J. Mosley attempted a Ravens reunion pre-retirement announcement It's been a while. The Baltimore Ravens selected C.J. Mosley 17th overall during Round 1 of the 2014 NFL Draft. Four of his first five NFL seasons ended in nominations to the Pro Bowl Roster. He earned four Second-Team All-Pro mentions as well, but in 2020, he left the nest and joined the New York Jets after signing a five-year deal that would pay him $85 million. He earned another Pro Bowl nod and Second-Team All-Pro mention during the 2022 Jets season. Things were never the same for Mosley in New York as they were for him in Baltimore. He missed all but two games in 2019. He opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19. Toe and neck injuries forced him to miss all but four games during the most recent Jets campaign. He was released on March 12 and retired on his birthday, but it appears he attempted one last ride with Baltimore before he did so. WJZ's Rick Ritter reports that C.J. hoped for a reunion in Baltimore for one last run at a title. There was reportedly interest on both sides, but he couldn't get cleared medically because of the damage done by previous injuries. I'm told C.J. Mosley was hoping for a reunion in Baltimore to chase a championship. There was mutual interest there but unfortunately, he couldn't get cleared with his neck injury @wjz @WJZ13sports @CBSSports — Rick Ritter (@RickRitterWJZ) June 19, 2025 Yeah... We always knew he missed The Flock, right? It's understandable. The Ravens family also missed him, and everyone understood he had to leave to ensure the long-term financial future of his family. That being said, though the journey may have ended, we're left with the joy of memories he helped create, memories like the following: An iconic moment in Ravens history. Congratulations on your career and retirement, C.J. — Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) June 19, 2025 The caption reads as it should. "An iconic moment in Ravens history... Congratulations on your career and retirement, C.J." Everyone can agree with that... Enjoy the rest, Mr. Mosley. You have certainly earned it. Kick those feet up. The young guys will take it from here.

Are the 2025 Baltimore Ravens the most talented team in franchise history?

Is this year's Baltimore Ravens roster their most talented in franchise history? Sure, on paper, this team appears loaded. However, former Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith said during a taping of WJZ's Purple Playbook to pump the brakes. "Let's not get carried away," Smith told WJZ Sports Anchor Alex Glaze. "The Ravens defense, historically, people think of Baltimore, regardless of how great (quarterback) Lamar Jackson is, as a defensive team. You have Ray Lewis and Ed Reed." SOUND OFF: As currently constructed on paper is this the most talented #Ravens team in franchise history? If not, who are you going with? #RavensFlock @wjz @TorreySmithWR — WJZ Sports (@WJZ13sports) June 19, 2025 Since football returned to Baltimore 30 years ago, the Ravens have won the Super Bowl twice -- claiming the 2000 championship and the 2012 championship. The Super Bowl-winning Ravens never had a quarterback like Jackson, who has won two league MVPs. However, those defenses were historically great. "These guys (currently) are great players, ain't no way I'm going to say that (this is the most talented)," Smith said. "Forget playing for the Ravens, the kid in me playing on Madden with that 2000 defense, there's no way I could say that." A Hall of Fame past Those Baltimore Super Bowl champions had eventual Hall of Famers Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, Shannon Sharpe, and Rod Woodson, as well as other key contributors. The list continues with Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, Marshal Yanda, Terrell Suggs, Jacoby Jones, Jamal Lewis, and Tony Siragusa. 11 All-Pro players on the Ravens roster The 2025 Baltimore Ravens have 11 players who have been named to the NFL All-Pro Team. Cornerback Jaire Alexander, who just signed with the Ravens, is the latest to join the roster. There are five former All-Pro performers on defense -- Alexander, linebacker Roquan Smith, defensive end Nnamdi Madubuike, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and safety Kyle Hamilton. Additionally, there are six on offense who have won All-Pro accolades, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, fullback Patrick Ricard, tight end Mark Andrews, and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. "This is an extremely talented group, and the defense can be up there with anyone," Smith said. "The only weakness right now is the pass rush. It's not for a lack of talent, it's just for the lack of execution in the moment." "Super Bowl or bust" Torrey Smith credits the Baltimore Ravens for always fielding a competitive team. Since 1996, the Ravens have two Super Bowl championships, two AFC titles, eight division championships, and 16 playoff appearances. In 2023, the Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 in the AFC Championship Game, and in 2024, they lost to the Buffalo Bills 27-25 in the divisional round of the playoffs. "Overall, this team will always give you a chance to win the Super Bowl," Smith said. "This is a Super Bowl-caliber defense, on paper and going into the season." And with the roster the way it is currently constructed, Smith believes a third Super Bowl championship will be in Baltimore. "It's always Super Bowl or bust," Smith said.

Rashod Bateman hints at Ravens WRs hitting another level after adding DeAndre Hopkins

Rashod Bateman hints at Ravens WRs hitting another level after adding DeAndre Hopkins Rashod Bateman Bateman said on NFL Network that DeAndre Hopkins has been teaching the younger Baltimore Ravens wide receivers on the nuances of the position The Ravens have an underrated receiving corps, but this unit could reach another gear after the off-season addition of DeAndre Hopkins to the roster. Playing alongside Zay Flowers, who became the first Ravens player to be named a Pro Bowler at the wide receiver position in 2024, Bateman had a breakout season and played a considerable role in Lamar Jackson's career-high 4,172 yards passing and 41 touchdowns. Enter Hopkins, who rarely drops a pass and is among the most efficient wide receivers in NFL history. He's been with Baltimore for three months, but he's already having a lasting influence on the young duo. 'You could just definitely tell that he's been in the game a while and done a lot of great things,' Bateman said of Hopkins. 'A lot of people respect what he's done and what he brings to the table. But as far as right now, he's been a very good veteran for us, giving all of us advice -- not even just myself -- he's been very vocal about that. All of us are much younger so [our] ears are open and we're taking all the advice we can get from him. He's done great things, so hopefully we can take that, add it to our game, add it to our personalities to go help this team. He's been good for us and I know he's going to be big for us this season.' Bateman, who signed a three-year, $36.75 million extension, is coming off a career-best season in which he recorded 45 receptions for 756 yards and nine touchdowns. Bateman also added this about the Ravens signing Jaire Alexander. "In practice, it's definitely going to be a battle," Bateman said. "It's always a battle -- this defense here is tough and adding Jaire to the group is definitely going to make us better. Going out, putting Jaire in the middle of our defense with the guys that we got now I think is going to be fun to see. It's going to be some Ravens football." As many players and coaches tend to indicate in June, Bateman said Wednesday that "everyone looks fast, strong and powerful" in minicamp and the team is "eager to get back to work and chase this ring."
