Kelsea Ballerini says fitness in her 20s was all about looks. Here's what changed once she hit her 30s.
In her 20s, Kelsea Ballerini says she worked out to look good. Now that she's in her 30s, it's all about feeling good — physically, mentally, and emotionally. In an interview with People published on Wednesday, the country music star spoke about how her approach to fitness has changed over the years. "Especially in my early twenties and mid-twenties, the idea of fitness was very much only aesthetically driven, and that was my goal," Ballerini, 31, told People. Now, she wants to be healthy and have the energy to keep up with her career and the people she loves. "The goal now is like, can I run around onstage for 90 minutes and have that energy to do it? Can I wake up and take both the dogs on a walk, and make sure that Dibs is going to all of his doctor appointments, and I'm on Zooms in the middle of it? Can I be present for everything that I need to? Can I make time for my friends, for my family, in the middle of all the chaos?" Ballerini said. While Ballerini practices Pilates to stay in shape, her go-to workout is a good walk. "Walking is so good for you. It also makes you get fresh air and some good sunshine, and that's so good for your mental health," she said. Diet-wise, Ballerini follows the 80/20 rule: eating healthily 80% of the time and being more flexible for the remaining 20%. She also says she enjoys eating at home, and her go-to meal is a chimichurri steak, which she has "a couple of times a week." However, there's one guilty pleasure she can't give up: McDonald's. "As a kid, I was such a picky eater, and my parents joke with me, like, 'All you would eat were waffles and chicken nuggets.' So I think it's just probably my inner child craving it still," Ballerini said. Six health and fitness specialists previously shared with Business Insider five key habits people can adopt in their 30s to boost longevity. They include eating a Mediterranean diet, wearing sunscreen, and managing stress. A representative for Ballerini did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by BI outside regular hours.

'I need a break': Country star taking time to ‘figure out what's next'
Kelsea Ballerini is manifesting a chill summer. After wrapping up her first arena tour and finishing her first season as a judge on 'The Voice,' the country music star wants to take some time to relax and regroup. 'I need a break, and I've never been able to say that before, but I really think that it's time for me to just pump the brakes, figure out what's next, take the time to just have a summer,' Ballerini said during her recent interview on 'Today with Jenna and Friends.' 'Every time I say I have time off, something happens,' the platinum-selling singer joked. 'But I'm very open to whatever is out there.' Ballerini hopes her summer itinerary includes going to the beach, learning to cook a new meal and spending time with her dogs, Dibs and Milo. Aside from a performance this Friday at the CMA Fest, Ballerini doesn't appear to have any upcoming performances or appearances scheduled, according to her website. This year has been a particularly eventful year for the 'Peter Pan' singer. Her tour, which ran from January to April, supported her fifth studio album, 'Patterns,' which she released in October. In March, Ballerini released a deluxe edition of 'Patterns,' which featured five additional songs. She also signed on for her first season as a judge on 'The Voice,' which wrapped last month. During her 'Today' appearance, she explained that it was a completely different experience than what she was used to. 'It's been such a beautiful season of doing things that are out of my comfort zone and bigger than I've ever done, and it's been really fulfilling. I love being in that seat,' she said. As for whether she'd ever return to 'The Voice,' Ballerini said, 'Never say never. I think it's all about timing.' Kelsea Ballerini pairs with CMA Fest partner SoFi for college student-aimed financial program
Official CMA Fest partner SoFi is already uniquely doubling down on its active engagement in country's mainstream marketplace. The 14-year-old personal finance and financial technology company has announced a partnership with Grammy-nominated Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Award-winner Kelsea Ballerini and tnAchieves, a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to college access and success, to launch the Rising Stars Program. The $2 million initiative will provide Tennessee-based college students over $500,000 in grants to expand its COMPLETE program aimed at helping college students quickly gain financial independence in their post-graduation years. "I'm incredibly proud to be working with SoFi to give students in Tennessee the financial tools and education they need to succeed. Investing even small amounts of money in your 20s will go further than larger amounts invested later in life. Building true financial independence starts by investing in your future early," offered Ballerini via a press statement. SoFi's contributions will fund students' 1:1 coaching and financial support as they prepare for a high-skill, high-wage career, plus a specialized financial readiness curriculum for the 60,000 students across their programs. Financial assistance for food, housing, laptops, textbooks, and emergency funds, plus a financial planning curriculum covering topics like budgeting, investing, and saving for future life milestones. In addition, SoFi is offering every Tennessee resident between 18-24 the opportunity to receive a minimum of $5 in free stock of their choosing, with a chance to win up to $1,000 in stock – all with no minimum deposit or fees required. 'tnAchieves could not be more excited to partner with SoFi to bring financial literacy resources to our students and families, helping more Tennesseans achieve their ambitions of going to college and earning a high-quality degree,' said Krissy DeAlejandro, President/CEO of tnAchieves. Kelsea Ballerini addresses Lainey Wilson after ACM Awards sweep and social media buzz
Kelsea Ballerini has publicly addressed the results of the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, where she went home without a win despite three nominations. The country star took to Instagram on May 10 to clarify her stance following speculation that she was upset about Lainey Wilson's sweep of major categories. 'Just stopping in to say I respect the hell out of laineywilson. As an artist, entertainer, and friend,' Ballerini posted to her Instagram Stories. 'A deserving queen.' At the ACM Awards held on May 8, Ballerini was nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Music Event of the Year (alongside Noah Kahan). All three categories went to other artists, with Wilson taking home two of them. Following the ceremony, Ballerini shared a photo referencing the iconic 'And none for Gretchen Wieners' scene from Mean Girls, prompting mixed reactions online. Her boyfriend, actor Chase Stokes, also posted on Instagram calling her his 'Entertainer of the Year.'
