British woman found alive after four days drifting in Mediterranean

A British woman who went missing on a boat she had hired on a Spanish island has been found alive. A major search operation was launched on Wednesday evening after the 39-year-old failed to return the 15-foot motorboat to the rental firm at Formentera's La Savina port as scheduled. Her concerned friends raised the alarm after the woman, who lives on the Balearic Islands, failed to return from her trip. She has now been rescued adrift by a ferry covering the Ibiza to Valencia route. She is understood to have been transferred to a hospital in Valencia. Her condition this morning was not immediately clear. The rescue is said to have occurred around 5pm yesterday. There has not yet been any official statement from the Civil Guard, although they confirmed today the woman had been found alive. The vessel she had lost her way in – a cream-coloured Quicksilver 475 Axess with a Mercury outboard motor – has been towed to Ibiza by the coastguard. The missing woman had been named locally as Mary Gavin after it emerged she was missing. Police divers took part in the search for her on Thursday after Civil Guard and Spanish coastguard helicopters and boats were mobilised. Speaking this morning, a Civil Guard spokesman said: 'The British woman who vanished after hiring a boat in Formentera on Tuesday morning has been found alive.' The police force had said on Friday in its first official comments about the disappearance: 'The missing woman is a 39-year-old British national who hired the boat in the port of La Salina in Formentera on Tuesday morning. 'She was supposed to return it around 6pm on Wednesday and when she didn't her friends became worried and raised the alarm. 'From the time she was reported missing on Wednesday evening a search operation was launched which continued throughout the day yesterday. 'She hasn't been found yet nor has the boat she was on. 'The Civil Guard's Judicial Police unit has been investigating this woman's disappearance but two vessels belonging to our Maritime Unit were mobilised yesterday along with one from the specialist sub-aquatic GEAS unit. 'The officers from the Maritime Unit conduct the searches from speedboats and the GEAS are essentially diving specialists.' More Trending A police source said last week the missing woman had been living on one of the Balearic islands for around two months, although it was not immediately clear if the island is Ibiza or Formentera. A Spanish Coastguard spokeswoman said they had received an alert about the missing Brit just after 8.30pm on Wednesday and had immediately mobilised a helicopter and boat to assist in the search. Police have not yet said exactly where the woman was when she was rescued or explain how she managed to go so badly adrift. It is unclear how much experience she had at sea. Coleen Rooney shows off toned figure in bikini on lavish getaway with Wayne

Lovebirds Wayne and Coleen Rooney are enjoying a sun-drenched retreat in Ibiza, where they were seen relaxing at the exclusive Cala Bassa Beach Club Wayne and Coleen Rooney are soaking up the sun in style as they enjoy a luxurious summer escape to Ibiza. The couple were spotted unwinding at the upscale Cala Bassa Beach Club, one of the island's most exclusive seaside destinations, and looked more relaxed than ever as they embraced the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle. Coleen, 38, stole the spotlight in a vibrant blue halter-neck bikini that perfectly complemented the crystal-clear waters behind her. The mother of four looked confident and radiant as she took a dip in the sea before lounging poolside, her toned figure and effortless beach glamour drawing admiring glances from fellow holidaymakers. ‌ Known for her timeless fashion sense, Coleen kept things chic and simple, accessorising with oversized sunglasses and a loose bun, showing that style and comfort can go hand in hand. Her natural glow and cheerful smile were the perfect match for the sunny Balearic backdrop, proving she's a true summer style icon. ‌ Wayne, 39, meanwhile, looked every inch the seasoned holidaymaker. Reclining on a sun lounger with a glass of sparkling sangria in hand, he sported a full beard and casual beachwear as he soaked in the afternoon sun. The former England captain and Manchester United legend seemed completely at ease, sharing relaxed conversation and laughs with Coleen as the pair enjoyed a rare moment of downtime away from the spotlight. In a candid moment, Wayne was seen holding a can of Snus tobacco nicotine pouches—an understated nod to one of his off-the-pitch habits. But the small detail didn't distract from the couple's clear connection and easygoing vibe. As music played in the background and waves lapped gently against the shore, the two looked utterly content in each other's company. The Rooneys, who have been married since 2008, have weathered the ups and downs of life in the public eye with resilience. Their latest getaway seems to mark another happy chapter for the couple, who continue to show the world that their bond remains as strong as ever. This Ibiza holiday follows a busy year for both, with Wayne recently stepping away from his managerial role at Birmingham City, and Coleen focusing on family life and her successful brand ventures. The sunny retreat offers a welcome break for the pair, who appear to be embracing the slower pace of island life with open arms. ‌ The sweet getaway comes as Coleen is making sure her son Kai is "protected" from fame, with the 16-year-old already having a glittering football career ahead of him. But to make sure he doesn't make the same mistakes as his dad, Wayne, she's reportedly making sure he keeps up with his school work. The mum-of-four shares her sons with husband Wayne as well as Kai, they have Klay, 11, Kit, nine, and Cass, seven. But Coleen is wary of her sons being thrust into the limelight at a young age, after witnessing how fame affected Wayne, who shot to fame at the age of 16. ‌ The couple married in 2008, when Coleen was 22, and like any relationship, have had their fair share of rocky patches. Their marriage was on the brink in 2017 when reporters discovered the ex-footballer had been pulled over behind the wheel of another woman's car while he was three times over the drink-drive limit. Wayne met Laura Simpson at a bar before joining her for a drive in her VW Beetle. During her Disney+ documentary, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, Coleen said: "I've had that feeling in my stomach a few times and I would never wish anyone to feel that. ‌ "You do think, do I actually know this person, when things like that happen. Y'know, you're not the person I married and the person I want you to be." But having put their troubles behind them, Coleen and Wayne are back on track - and she wants to make sure her son Kai stays on the straight and narrow. The Sun reports a source said: "Kai is already being touted as one to watch and played a big part in Man United winning the Under 15s league. "He's being tipped to become a first-team player within the next couple of years. But Coleen is making sure that he doesn't rely on it and has told him he has to do his GCSEs next year and still work hard at school, as nobody knows what's going to happen. "She's playing a big part in his career, though, and is making sure he's well protected and isn't thrust into the limelight like Wayne was at such a young age." Both Coleen and Wayne have been supporting Kai in his football, with the pair regularly celebrating his wins on social media.

El Nacional Barcelona: a restaurant that used to be a theatre, a factory and a car park

La Llotja is a complete contrast to La Braseria: ideal for lovers of delicacies from the sea. It also has a distinct decor, with a bright maritime style, full of white and blue tiles and furniture in light tones, a setting that acts as a prelude to its exuberant range of fish and seafood, which you'll find displayed like in a fishmonger's. The fish is cooked on the charcoal grill, in the oven, salt-crusted, steamed, carpaccio, tartare... and you'll find different accompaniments, with salads or vegetables. This is one of the characteristics of the menu, that you can decide which fish or shellfish you prefer and combine it with a side: potatoes, vegetables, salad... Two other characteristics of the place that make it different from typical fish restaurants is that they have a section of stews from the Balearic islands, such as a Menorcan lobster stew, and a whole range of oysters to choose from, both Mediterranean and starters include the Mediterranean red tuna tartare with avocado, hazelnuts and sesame oil, and from the specialities, San Sebastian-style wild croaker fish with garnish. It's worth trying some of the desserts, such as the wonderful Larpeira, a typical sponge cake from Galicia, with crème brûlée…It's open 365 days a year from 12 noon to 2 am and, if you want to book a table, keep in mind that you can only do so at La Llotja and La Braseria, although you can show up at any of them without booking.
