This Airline Was Just Named the Best in the World—and It's a 9-time Winner
For many travelers, flying has become little more than a way to reach a destination—efficient, often impersonal, and rarely memorable. But a select group of airlines continue to invest in the idea that the journey still matters. With refined cabins, thoughtful amenities, and attentive service, they aim to make time in the air feel less like transit and more like an experience. Each year, the Skytrax World Airline Awards, often referred to as 'the Oscars of the aviation industry,' recognize the carriers that deliver on that promise. First launched in 1999, the awards are based on global passenger surveys and are considered among the most respected honors in commercial aviation. At the June 17, 2025, ceremony in France, Qatar Airways was named the World's Best Airline for the second consecutive year and the ninth time in Skytrax history. Qatar Airways rose to the top out of more than 325 airlines that were included in the survey results. According to Skytrax's award and survey methodology, the ranking is 'not restricted to member airlines or a pre-selected choice of airline, and any airline in the world can be nominated. The focus of the survey is for customers to make their own, personal choices as to which airline they consider to be the best, underlining the brand as the Passenger's Choice Awards.' 'Being named the World's Best Airline for the ninth time is an extraordinary honor," Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said in the Skytrax press release. "Being continuously recognized as a 5-Star Airline further underscores our mission: to set new benchmarks for the industry and to ensure that our passengers feel genuinely cared for, valued and inspired to return.' Qatar Airways, which is the flag carrier of Qatar and is headquartered in Doha, was also named the Best Airline in the Middle East. Qatar Airways' largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, is a flier favorite. It has two floors and one of the world's largest on-board lounges. Its business class—branded as Qsuites and includes a series of private suites with sliding doors—was named the World's Best Business Class, while the airline's Al Mourjan Garden Lounge in Doha was named the World's Best Business Class Airline Lounge. Singapore Airlines, which was No. 1 in 2023 and has won the award five times, held onto second place for the second year in a row. In third place for 2025 was Cathay Pacific, while Emirates came in at No. 4 and All Nippon Airways (ANA) at No. 5.

American carriers fail to rank among world's best airlines for 2025
Just in time for the start of this summer's busy travel season, Skytrax has named Qatar Airways the world's best airline at its 2025 World Airline Awards at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday. Pentagon Pizza Index: The theory that surging pizza orders signal global crises 5 signals that make you instantly more trustworthy at work How one company is revolutionizing the way we use everyday water This is the Middle Eastern carrier's ninth win at what has been dubbed 'the Oscars of the aviation industry.' 'To retain this title in a highly competitive and ever-evolving global industry reflects [our] relentless efforts across every part of the business . . . [as we] continue to set new standards in aviation . . . and is a clear validation of our vision to shape the future of air travel,' Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said in a statement. The top spots were dominated by Middle Eastern and Asian airlines known for their exceptional service, luxury cabins, and state-of-the-art in-flight products, as airlines increasingly compete for the lucrative luxury market post-pandemic. Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, and All Nippon Airways rounded out the top five placings after Qatar Airways. In all, 325 airlines were surveyed by Skytrax. In addition to its No. 2 overall ranking, Singapore Airlines was recognized for having the 'world's best cabin crew' and 'world's best first class service.' Cathay Pacific Airways moved up to third place this year and was also honored for 'world's best in-flight entertainment.' Emirates ranked No. 4, and All Nippon Airways came in fifth place, winning for 'world's best airport service.' Here's a look at Skytrax's Top 20 list. 1. Qatar Airways 2. Singapore Airlines 3. Cathay Pacific Airways 4. Emirates 5. All Nippon Airways 6. Turkish Airlines 7. Korean Air 8. Air France 9. Japan Airlines 10. Hainan Airlines 11. Swiss International Air Lines 12. EVA Air 13. British Airways 14. Qantas Airways 15. Lufthansa 16. Virgin Atlantic 17. Saudi Arabian Airlines 18. Starlux Airlines 19. Air Canada 20. Iberia One glaring omission: U.S. carriers. In fact, domestic airlines like Delta, American, United, and JetBlue didn't even crack the top 20, much less the top 10. A look at the world's top 100 airlines shows Delta Air Lines ranked at No. 22, trailed by United Airlines at No. 51, JetBlue at No. 52, Alaska Airlines at No. 69, Southwest Airlines at No. 76, American Airlines at No. 83, and Hawaiian Airlines at No. 100. For North America, specifically, Air Canada won 'best regional airline,' while Delta Air Lines received the award for the 'best airline staff service in North America.' The rankings come amid growing concerns about aviation safety in the United States after a number of staffing cuts at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by the Trump administration's so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Some critics wonder whether the cuts are causing current airport delays and possibly contributing to safety issues, in the wake of an alarming incident in April involving a 90-second outage in radar and communication systems at Newark Liberty International Airport that left controllers unable to communicate with aircraft. The episode prompted one anonymous air traffic controller to later call the airport 'not safe.' A full list of winners across all categories is on view at the Skytrax website. Qatar Airways is the ‘world's best' airline, while Qantas makes huge comeback
There's no holding back Qatar Airways. The Doha-based carrier has been named the World's Best Airline for 2025 for a record-breaking ninth time in the annual Skytrax's World Airline Awards – dubbed 'the Oscars of the aviation industry'. The awards were held on June 17 at Paris Air Show, in the Air and Space Museum at the Hall of Eight Columns of Le Bourget airport, where roughly 500 guests attended from airlines across the world. Singapore Airlines nabbed second spot, while Cathay Pacific secured third place, Emirates fourth and ANA All Nippon Airways in fifth. Australia's national carrier Qantas had an impressive comeback. It climbed its way back from 24th place last year, to 14th this year, and also took out Best Airline in Australia and Pacific. Meanwhile, Qatar, a 5-star carrier, received three other awards – retaining the title of Best Airline in the Middle East, World's Best Business Class and Best Business Class Airline Lounge. 'Being named the World's Best Airline by Skytrax for the ninth time is an extraordinary honour,' Qatar Airways Group chief executive officer, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said. 'This recognition is far more than an award, it is a celebration of the passion, precision and purpose that defines who we are as an airline.' Mr Al-meer said to retain this title in a highly competitive and ever-evolving global industry reflects the 'relentless efforts across every part of the business'. '[From] the frontline to behind-the-scenes, the passion and commitment of our people continue to set new standards in aviation'. All survey entries were screened to identify IP and user information, with duplicate, suspect and ineligible entries deleted. Over 325 airlines feature in the survey results. Qatar's big win comes as it partners with Virgin Australia after the Australian Government gave its tick of approval. Qatar Airways now has a minority 25 per cent stake in the Aussie carrier, in turn expanding Virgin's flight network. Last week, the first Qatar Airways-operated Virgin Australia flight to Doha took off from Sydney following the new deal. It marks the start of a 'wet lease' arrangement, which will connect Australians with more than 170 destinations through Qatar's global network, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa. How did the Aussie airlines do Qantas returned to the Skytrax awards being named the Best Airline in Australia / Pacific, with Virgin Australia winning the award for the Best Airline Staff Service in Australia / Pacific, and Best Regional Airline award for this region. Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said the award reflects the airline's 'ongoing commitment' to delivering for its customers and is testament to the 'exceptional work of our people'. 'I want to sincerely thank our incredible team of more than 29,000 people around the world, who bring such passion and pride to the work they do every single day. This award belongs to them,' Ms Hudson said. 'Project Sunrise is on the horizon and our historic fleet renewal is well underway, with the first Qantas A321XLR set to land in Australia in the coming weeks. 'This is all part of the biggest fleet renewal program in our history, and the investments we are making in both new and existing aircraft are set to transform the flying experience for the millions of customers who fly with us every year.'
