Neena Gupta on romance beyond 50: Love is about feeling good, not just sex
Veteran actor Neena Gupta has long been a force of nature, balancing unconventional life choices with an unapologetically fearless career in film and television. Now, as she gears up for her next big-screen outing in 'Metro In Dino', she's clear on what truly matters to her and opens up about love beyond 50, meaningful roles, and inner a exclusive chat with India Today, Neena Gupta reflects on the three most defining moments of her life, 'First, coming to Bombay. Second, having Masaba. Both those moments changed my life completely. And now, being a grandmother — that's amazing. There are no words to express it.'advertisementWhen asked about how audiences have embraced her portrayal of mature romance — particularly post - 'Badhaai Ho' — she responds with refreshing honesty. 'I agree, I still feel romantic! Romance is not just about sex or attraction. It's about feeling good.' And feeling good, she says, comes in many forms, 'I romance with my clothes. I feel great when I dress up. Back in the day, I'd never worn a bikini; the household that I came from didn't have that culture in Delhi. But when I moved to Bombay and lived alone, I'd wear a bikini in my bathroom, stand in front of the mirror, and feel happy; there were no mobile phones then. That, too, is romance. Romancing yourself. But feeling good has no age limit."Talking about Metro... In Dino, she confesses her admiration for director Anurag Basu. 'I didn't even know he would offer me something. But when he did, I told him — don't even tell me what my role is, I'll do it. That's how much I wanted to work with him, especially after Life in a... Metro.'advertisementAt this stage in her life and career, Neena Gupta says her choices are rooted in simplicity: 'Now what matters to me is script and yes, money too. But first, the script.'She adds, 'If the role is good, I do it — even if I don't know the director. In fact, I'm doing a film right now — I don't know much about the director. But the role is very good, so I said yes. Sometimes the money is less, sometimes more. It balances out. If my heart and mind feel good, I go for it. And I truly believe — God balances everything in the end."' Dino' is all set to release on July 4. Along with Neena Gupta, the film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkana Sensharma, and Pankaj Tripathi. You May Also Like

Neena Gupta recalls being replaced by Tanuja in an Amitabh Bachchan film: 'My blouses were also stitched', says now one gets to know through Instagram
Neena Gupta is known for a number of movies - right from 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron', 'Mandi' to movies like 'Badhaai Ho' and 'Uunchai' in recent times. But Neena doesn't feel shy to ask for work even now. The actress admits that she approaches the producer or director if she gets to know a film is announced even through social media. Neena who is gearing up for her next, ' Dino' with Anupam Kher has revealed that these days one gets to know that they are replaced in a film through Instagram. She also recalled an old film where she was suddenly replaced. Neena also spoke about the difference in the way male actors still get roles as heroes, as opposed to female actors of her age who get 'dadi' roles. Neena said duirng a chat with Nayandeep Rakshit, 'Men of my age or even older continue to play heroes on the big screen, but I am considered for a grandmother also at times. Men have more character roles, and we don't. I know other actresses who are friends, and they still don't have any work.' She added, 'I still message and reach out to people for work. If I see on Instagram that a film has been announced or I see an actor visiting a producer's office, then I call my manager and get the director's number and send a message asking if there is anything for me. You need to do that, no matter how big a star you are.' Neena recalled that recently she saw a paparazzi video of another actress of her age on Instagram visiting a producer's office and that's how she got to know she was replaced. Gupta said, "There have been times when people sign you and then replace you. Recently, I was called for a film and they said you have to do it. I said okay. They were discussing the money and dates, but a few days later, I saw on Instagram that an actress of my age is going to their office. I asked my manager to find out and learned that she was signed in my place. Instagram is not stupid; sometimes it's very useful. Then I wrote a message to that producer saying that they should at least inform if they changed their mind. He realised his mistake, and said sorry. Now, we are doing a film together soon.' Recalling an earlier time, she said, "Once, in an older film of mine with Amitabh Bachchan , my blouses were stitched, the costume was ready, and they went ahead and took Tanuja for that role. Then I got to know I was no longer in that film. But one should not feel bad and bitter about it, just move on.' While Neena didn't name the film, Tanuja and Amitabh Bachchan had starred together in a film called 'Pyaar Ki Kahani' in 1971. Other films which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Tanuja both, included Yaarana and Khuddar

Bollywood actress Neena Gupta is one of the most celebrated actresses in the industry. She has given some amazing performances despite being in supporting roles. Not just her acting, but she also grabs headlines for speaking her heart out and wearing what she feels like without making age a barrier. Now, the Panchayat 4 actress reflected on a moment that brought her to tears, recalling how a co-star lashed out at her over an inflated ego. In a recent interview with Mid-day, Neena Gupta recalled an incident and shared, 'These days, everyone's ego is so (inflated) that you have to think a hundred times before you say something to someone. They don't like it. I had a couple of such experiences (outside of the show). Once, I said something in a friendly manner to another actor. That person took off on me. I was in tears.' The actress shared that situations like these have made her hesitant to connect with both junior and senior colleagues. She recalled working with a senior actor who delivered strong performances but lacked a sense of mutual exchange on set. Still, she noted that there are a few people who trust her intentions when she offers guidance. Neena also talked about being unconventional and shared how one has to pay the price for it. However, she called it her 'priority'. She also mentioned that her clothing choices depend on her mood, one day she might opt for a saree, and the next, she could be in shorts. Neena Gupta further reflected on her choice of clothes and mentioned that she isn't hurting anyone with it. She also acknowledged that if her choice of outfits had impacted the roles she was offered, she might have reconsidered wearing them. However, she clarified that the work she received wasn't because of any bold statements or posts, but rather due to the success of Badhaai Ho in 2018. She emphasized that in the industry, it's a strong performance in a hit film that truly opens doors. Meanwhile, Neena Gupta is gearing up for the release of her most-awaited show Panchayat 4 which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 24. She will be playing the role of Manju Devi. She teased about the season in the same interview and shared that it has 'amazing humor'. Apart from her, it also stars Raghubir Yadav, Jitendra Kumar, and Sunita Rajwar, and more.
