Bad Monkey EP Bill Lawrence Offers Season 2 Update, Confirms ‘Razor Girl' Adaptation On Hold in Favor of New Story With Same Cast
Eight months after Bad Monkey's Season 1 finale, and six months after the Vince Vaughn-led detective comedy was renewed at Apple TV+, executive producer Bill Lawrence tells TVLine that writing on Season 2 is nearly complete, and cameras will officially start rolling this fall. 'They're almost done in the writers' room,' the EP says. 'We already had to shoot a scene from Season 2 [in Florida, since production is] moving to California, and that starts production in earnest towards the end of September.' (In other words, don't expect a release date any sooner than 2026.) Fox and Jeff Daniels' Season 3 Arcs As for the premise, Lawrence confirms that, while they fully intend to adapt the second Andrew Yancy-centric novel, 'Razor Girl,' for a future season, Season 2 will tell a wholly original story, with input from author Carl Hiaasen. ''Razor Girl' is a great novel for people who want to read it, but it's kind of a break from the characters of the first [book],' Lawrence explains, 'and we wanted to have some of the characters from the first season more front and center in the second' — including Natalie Martinez's Rosa. '[Season 2 is] an original story, but we're all Carl Hiaasen aficionados — and, also, Carl consults on the show and has been helping us a ton.' Vaughn stars as the aforementioned Andrew Yancy, a police detective who in Season 1 investigated a bizarre crime in the Florida Keys while on suspension from the force. Martinez co-starred as coroner Rosa, who emerged as a love interest for Yancy, with Rob Delaney and Meredith Hagner playing married scammers Nick and Eve Stripling. The ensemble also included Ronald Peet as Neville, John Ortiz as Ro, Jodie Turner-Smith as Gracie (aka the Dragon Queen) and Michelle Monaghan as Bonnie. Bad Monkey wrapped Season 1 in October. The finale found Yancy and Rosa agreeing to part ways, and Yancy's friend Ro tempting him to look into another case. Vince Vaughn gives promising Dodgeball 2 update
Vince Vaughn has a "pretty good" idea for a 'Dodgeball' sequel. The 55-year-old actor played Average Joe's Gym owner Peter LaFleur in cult classic 2004 comedy 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story', and he has given an update on a follow-up two years after a sequel was announced, albeit without much progress since 2023. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "There's always talk of these. 'Dodgeball', actually, there's an idea that's pretty good, but nothing for sure." He explained that after new Netflix film 'Nonnas', his next project is another season of 'Bad Monkey' followed by "another thing" he's working on. He added: "I'm going to start the second season of 'Bad Monkey', which is great, and then I have another thing I'm going to do, but I would definitely… "It's always about if the story's right, if the extension is something that makes sense. "There are ideas that are good with some of these, but you never know what transpires and if it makes sense for everybody. "But I'm definitely open to it. I love a lot of those movies and definitely open if something comes to pass." The original movie followed a group of misfits who enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in a bid to save their gym from a corporate chain by winning the prize money. Alan Tudyk - who played Steve 'The Pirate' Cowan in the original movie - recently revealed a 'Dodgeball 2' script "has been written", but speculated that "there has to be something holding it back". He told 'This is what's been reported, that I've read at least online, and I've kind of heard rumors around. "It's written, Vince likes it, I guess that's all I know. I don't know that I'm in it. "All I know is this: I threw out my shoulder doing that movie, and now I'm 54, so how am I gonna do that? I don't know.' Vaughn previously insisted everyone involved has no desire to make the film unless it's "funny". Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, he said: "They've always talked about these things forever and I had an idea that was fun and the studio likes it, so we'll see where it goes. "I think Ben [Stiller] is open to doing it, I think he's in the same boat as me actually which is if it's a really fun and great idea then that's fun, but if it's just something to go do it again then why? "I think for all of us if it feels right and it's funny, it would be something to go back to, and if it's not, it's just another idea getting kicked around." Meanwhile, co-star Justin Long revealed a few years ago that Ben Stiller might be having reservations about a sequel. He told "Of course I would love to do it and I hope that it ends up happening, but I think Ben is a little, what he told me on that podcast was that he's a little trepidatious about doing a sequel to something so beloved, something that people enjoy so much that. "It's very risky, you don't wanna s*** on the original, you want something just as good. "So I think [Ben is] a little wary of that, of trying to recreate something that was very specific to that time, but I hope he comes around on it."

Zach Braff to reprise his role for 'Scrubs' reboot
Scrubs is coming back, and so is JD. Zach Braff is the first original cast member to join the reboot of the 2000s medical sitcom, reported Deadline. Reprising his role as John "JD" Dorian, Braff was present for all nine seasons of the original series. The reboot, which was announced almost six months ago, is currently in development at ABC with no filming location announced as of yet. Sources report that Braff's news comes after months of internal negotiations and the star's request for the filming to take place in LA as opposed to Vancouver, which was originally planned. Reportedly, an escalation of the clash could have led to the project being scrapped, though both parties eventually came to an agreement. In the past, Braff has shared that he's optimistic about the project's prospects. "I'm going to tell you something that nobody else is going to get. Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it's going to happen," he told Entertainment Tonight. He also expressed interest in returning to the series, adding that he's still close to his former co-stars. "It would be so much fun [with] all my favourite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it's true," he said. Although no other deals have been locked yet, 20th TV — the television studio arm of 20th Century Studios — is expected to reach out to original cast members Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk), John C McGinley (Perry Cox), and Judy Reyes (Carla Espinosa) soon enough. All have said that they would be happy to return. With original series creator Bill Lawrence also onboard under an exclusive overall deal, the reboot is off to a promising start. However, Lawrence won't be writing or running the show as he has much on his plate — Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey, and the upcoming Steve Carell comedy series. Speaking to Deadline in October last year, he revealed that the series was very close to "being figured out". Scrubs Reboot: Zach Braff to Reprise Role, More Original Cast Eyed
After months of negotiations, Zach Braff has signed on for the reboot. Per Deadline, Braff will reprise his role as John 'J.D.' Dorian for ABC's medical sitcom follow-up. Braff's return nearly happened, as issues over money and filming locations were the sources of conflict. Braff reportedly requested the reboot be filmed in Los Angeles, not Vancouver. Without Braff, the Scrubs reboot was on life support. However, a deal has now been reached with Braff, though no filming location has been announced. With Braff back, ABC and 20th Television will now go after several core cast members to return for the reboot. This includes Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa, and John C. McGinley as Perry Cox. The Scrubs reboot officially entered development in December. Series creator Bill Lawrence is attached as an executive producer and will help develop the project. Lawrence will not be the showrunner if the reboot gets a series order. Lawrence is currently under an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. TV, where he spearheads shows like Shrinking, Bad Monkey, Ted Lasso, and the upcoming Steve Carell HBO comedy. However, Lawrence finally came to a deal with Disney to help advance the Scrubs reboot.
