Karnataka Cabinet approves increase in reservation for minorities from 10 pc to 15 pc in housing schemes
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 19 (ANI): Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved an increase in the reservation quota for minority communities under various housing schemes from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. Karnataka Minister HK Patil stated that this move does not require any new rules to be drafted. 'The reservation for all minority communities will be increased. There are Christians, Jains, Buddhists,' the Minister said. Meanwhile, responding to the decision, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya issued a scathing statement on social media, calling the decision 'brazen,' 'blatantly illegal,' and 'unconstitutional'. He said that for short-term political gains, 'Congress is determined to sow the seeds of division, polarise communities, and rip apart the social fabric of Karnataka.' 'This is brazen. Blatantly illegal and unconstitutional. There can be no reservation on the basis of religion -- the Constitution is unambiguous on this. Yet, the Congress government in Karnataka is hell-bent on pushing religious quotas to appease its vote bank. This isn't governance, it's dangerous social engineering. Congress is determined to sow the seeds of division, polarise communities, and rip apart the social fabric of Karnataka -- all for short-term political gain. Karnataka deserves better,' he said. The move will apply to all housing schemes implemented by the Urban and Rural Development Departments across the state. (ANI)

FIR filed against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, journalist Arnab Goswami
An FIR has been registered against BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly spreading false information, according to police officials. The case was filed at the High Grounds police station on Tuesday following a complaint by Shrikant Swaroop B N, head of the legal cell of the Indian Youth Congress. The complaint invokes sections 192 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Swaroop accused Malviya and Goswami of orchestrating a "criminally motivated campaign" to spread false claims that the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkey is the international office of the Indian National Congress (INC). He alleged that the misinformation was "deliberately designed to mislead the Indian public, defame a major political party, stir nationalist sentiments, and incite unrest." "The actions come amid strained diplomatic ties between India and Turkey, largely due to Turkey's perceived support for Pakistan," he said. "This makes the misinformation campaign even more dangerous and inflammatory." Calling the campaign 'an unprecedented attack on India's democratic foundations,' Swaroop urged authorities, including the Press Council of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the CBI, to treat the complaint as an emergency and take strict action.

Former US President Dwight Eisenhower noted it as "one bright spot ... in a very depressing world picture that we see so often." The agreement assigns the Western Rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab) to Pakistan and Eastern Rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) to India, whilst allowing certain usage rights to both countries. India receives 20% of the Indus River System's water, with Pakistan receiving 80%. The Pahalgam incident ranks among the most severe attacks in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack that claimed 40 CRPF jawans.
