Man charged over fatal pub beer garden assault
A man has been charged with the manslaughter of another man who died after being assaulted in a pub beer garden in Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire Police said Harley Fox was injured outside the Market Inn, in Main Street, Huthwaite, at about 21:10 BST on Sunday. The 34-year-old died in hospital on Tuesday. Dilon Price, 30, of Back Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield, appeared before magistrates earlier charged with manslaughter and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 11 July, the force added. Police said another man was assaulted at the same location. Mr Fox's family released a tribute to him through the force. It said: "Harley was absolutely devoted to his family and there are no words that can even begin to express the devastation felt by everyone who knew him. "He is loved by so many, had the biggest heart and was always the first person to help anyone in need. "He was so full of life and lived it to the max. Motorbikes, boats, go-karts - in fact engines of any kind - and he was happy. "Harley, we love you so much. Fly high until we meet again." Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram. Rare Strawberry Moon captured over region
Cameras trained on the night sky have captured a rare sight across the East Midlands. Wednesday night and Thursday morning saw the darkness lit up by a Strawberry Moon. The event hit its peak overnight but the pinkish hues of it sitting low to the horizon are nothing to do with the name. A Strawberry Moon instead marks the harvest season of indigenous Americans because it appeared when wild strawberries were due to be harvested. These images were all captured by BBC Weather Watchers who stayed up late to catch the summer show unfolding above them. And it was worthwhile as the phenomenon was last seen in 2006 and will not be repeated again until 2043. Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram. Hundreds of new homes approved for sites near town
Two housing developments totalling more than 450 homes around a town in Nottinghamshire have been approved by planners. Ashfield District Council approved two housing projects, one on Hamilton Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield and the other 1.8 miles (2.3km) away on Beck Lane in Skegby, on Wednesday. The applications for 250 properties in Hamilton Road and 230 in Beck Lane are solely for housing and public spaces. Permission was granted as the developers of the estates will enter into Section 106 agreements to help fund local services. District councillor Arnie Hankin told the Local Democracy Reporting Service after the meeting: "We still fall short of our housing needs in Ashfield and our members voted to pass it – and I think that was the right decision. "We've received one letter of objection on the [Hamilton Road] application – but we approved it and it's a contribution of 250 houses. "None of us like getting rid of green belt - unfortunately this has to happen from time to time." Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
