Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara production plans revised amid supply crunch: Report
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is seen here at the Auto Expo 2025. (ANI) Notify me Maruti Suzuki's debut in India's electric vehicle (EV) landscape has hit an unexpected roadblock. The country's largest carmaker has drastically scaled down production targets for its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, slashing planned output for the April–September period by over 65 per cent, a Reuters report has stated. Internal records disclose that the automaker now seeks to manufacture only 8,200 units within this timeframe, a steep reduction from its original 26,500 units. The action is due to a shortage of supply of rare earth materials—key elements that are part of EV components such as magnets and motors. China, which dominates the provision of these materials, has made them more difficult to obtain under tightened export controls. The control is part of an overarching geopolitical agenda by China, with the consequence cascading across the world's auto supply chains. Company maintains annual EV production target In spite of the delay, Maruti Suzuki is confident of achieving its yearly target of 67,000 e-Vitaras production by March 2026. The auto manufacturer is going to increase production sharply in the latter half of the financial year, aiming to clock over 58,000 units from October to March. The change in production timeline indicates a revised approach as the automaker tries to adjust to volatile supply situations. Also Read : Maruti Suzuki India eyes 4 lakh exports in FY26 to counter domestic market slowdown The report states that under the new plan, Maruti hopes to manufacture around 440 e-Vitaras per day at its peak capacity during the remainder of the current fiscal year, making up for the initial slowdown. Two supply chain insiders, while confirming the production cut, said the exact scale of the reduction was known only to top executives. Exports may see delays The e-Vitara holds significant strategic value not just for the Indian market but also as a key export product for Suzuki's global network. Majority of the EVs manufactured in India had to be exported to overseas destinations, such as Europe and Japan, with export deliveries anticipated to commence in mid-2025. If production interruptions take any longer, this will impact Suzuki's international contractual obligations on supply and is anticipated to delay their ultimate electrification plans. Suzuki had already highlighted India as a manufacturing base for their global EV plans, adding even greater consequence to this slowdown. Also watch: Maruti Suzuki plans EV dominance in India | Maruti's EV strategy revealed | e Vitara launch soon Fierce competition, shifting market dynamics The timing could not be worse for Maruti Suzuki, which has been battling to recapture lost ground at the hands of competitors Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. Both of them have taken the lead in the electric mobility segment, providing feature-laden EVs that attract India's fast-changing consumer base. Maruti's share in the domestic passenger vehicle segment has slipped to 41 per cent, down from 51 per cent just five years ago. Compounding the problem is the coming of the world EV behemoth Tesla to India, which will only enhance the rivalry. Scaling back long-term EV ambitions The present production problems are not the only indication of recalibration in Maruti Suzuki. The parent entity of MSIL, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has reportedly changed its long-term plans and Indian production objectives. The automaker has trimmed its 2031 sales target from 3 million vehicles to 2.5 million and has reduced the number of planned EV launches from six to four. Also Read : No impact of rare earth magnet shortage on production so far: Maruti Suzuki Chairman Even though Maruti insists that there is no "material impact" on the e-Vitara's launch schedule at present, market analysts caution that persistent supply chain issues might cause cascading delays. With EV bookings still to commence and major competitors already well-placed in the market, the company is under growing pressure to deliver. Tata Motors to launch 30 new vehicles by FY30, including EVs, SUVs, MPVs. Check details
Tata Avinya X concept at Auto Expo 2025. Check Offers Tata Motors has set out an ambitious product plan for the remainder of the decade, with a commitment to introducing up to 30 new vehicles by FY2030. The plan consists of seven completely new nameplates and 23 updates or facelifts of current offerings. The revelation, released through the company's most recent investor presentation, highlights Tata's vision to cement leadership in several segments in India's transforming automotive environment. The automaker's overall portfolio will ultimately encompass more than 15 different nameplates, with an increased range of body styles and powertrains, including electric vehicles (EVs), internal combustion engines (ICE), and hybrids. SUVs and crossovers to dominate the lineup While Tata did not provide a model-wise split, it pointed toward an ongoing focus on SUVs, crossovers, and coupes. These are expected to be drivers of the growth over the next couple of years, with SUVs alone estimated to see a 55 per cent rise in demand by FY30 over FY25. The appeal of these strong and roomy vehicles, particularly in urban and semi-urban locations, is instilling confidence in Tata in this space. Also Read : Tata Motors to invest up to ₹ 35,000 crore in PV business in 5 years, new models and EVs in focus The next-generation Sierra SUV, which is in development, is one of the most highly anticipated launches. Test mules of the vehicle have been seen on several occasions, hinting that its commercial launch may not be very distant in the future. Harrier and Safari SUVs are also going to see powertrain diversification, likely referring to new hybrid or flex-fuel offerings. MPVs on the rise: A family-focused bet In a strategic move, Tata Motors also signaled multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) as a growth driver. The company believes the MPV segment alone could grow as much as 50 per cent by FY30 from increased family needs for cars that combine comfort, space, and utility. Though Tata has not indicated exact MPV models in the pipeline, the emphasis on this body style indicates that new entrants may be designed with both urban families and fleet operators in mind. Also Read : Tata Harrier EV: A showcase of Tata Motors' global tech ties and EV ecosystem vision New age design with Avinya Of the new nameplates, the Avinya series is notable. Revealed initially in concept guise, the Avinya name will probably morph into a family of cars across various body styles and powertrains. As details are scarce, Tata did affirm that the Avinya range will combine next-gen design language with both ICE and EV drivetrain options for a wide range of consumers. Recent launches and what's next For FY26, Tata has already introduced updated versions of popular models such as the Tiago, Altroz Facelift, and the Harrier EV—its newest all-electric SUV. These releases indicate the brand's continued efforts at keeping pace with market trends while providing sustainable alternatives. In addition to the two announced ICE models and two new EVs, the firm teased two additional ICE models and two additional EVs, but these don't yet have names or details. This ongoing two-track strategy—ICE and EV—shows that Tata is ready for a transition market that is slowly electrifying. Tata Harrier EV to launch on June 3. Here's what to expect from the upcoming electric SUV
The Tata Harrier EV has been revealed in the near-production guise and will possibly go on sale later this year Notify me The Tata Harrier EV is set to launch on June 3, as the new flagship model for the Indian carmaker's electric vehicle lineup. Though the Harrier EV has been showcased to the Indian audience several times, the company unveiled the final production version of the Harrier EV at the Auto Expo 2025. The Tata Harrier EV will introduce the company's plus architecture, which seeks to merge performance, cutting-edge technology, and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Although Tata hasn't yet announced its complete specifications and feature list, here's what we can anticipate from the impending electric SUV. Tata Harrier EV: Exterior The Tata Harrier EV maintains a great deal of the design theme of its diesel variant, only with certain elements to differentiate it as an EV. It has a closed front grille, a hallmark design of most EVs to enhance aerodynamics. Front and rear bumpers were moderately updated, drawing some inspiration from the single vertical slats that have been featured on the Tata Nexon EV. Also Read : Tata Motors seeks to regain 50% market share in electric car segment, charge up portfolio Another very apparent difference is the aero alloy wheels, which are more efficient but do provide the car with a good stance. The LEDs feature linked daytime running lights (DRLs) and rear lamps that are mostly identical to the base Harrier. Tata Harrier EV: Interior and technology Though Tata has not officially confirmed or showcased the cabin of the upcoming Harrier EV, the electric SUV is likely to share the same dashboard shape as the ICE model of the Harrier. The Harrier EV is likely to incorporate a black and white dual-tone colour scheme for the cabin, much like the Nexon EV and Curvv EV interior design language in most recent models produced by the company. In terms of features, most amenities likely to be carried from the standard Harrier include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. Additional premium features like dual-zone climate control and a powered tailgate are likely, too. One specific feature might be of considerable interest- the "Summon Mode" that will facilitate the car move ahead and backward, all done remotely using the key fob. Also, the passenger screen at the front is expected to make a mark. On the other hand, safety should be important as well, featuring multiple airbags that may extend to approx- seven, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS-equipped technologies for further driving assistance. Tata Harrier EV: Specifications Tata Motors has confirmed that the Harrier EV will have an all-wheel drive, dual-motor setup, which will be the brand's first all-electric SUV to offer such a drivetrain configuration. While exact specifications of the battery haven't been revealed yet, it will most probably include a large-size battery pack, offering a range of over 500 km from a single charge. Also, a second, affordable variant is also likely to be offered with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup, for those who want a more affordable option but still require range. Also Read : Tata Motors pauses Altroz EV plans. Here's why Tata Harrier EV: Expected price and rivals The Tata Harrier EV is expected to be priced from ₹ 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Upcoming BMW F 450 GS spied testing in production-ready form: What we know so far
The BMW F 450 GS adventure tourer has finally been spotted in a production-ready form and brings a few changes over the concept unveiled earlier at Auto Expo 2025. (Motorrad Online) Notify me First unveiled as a concept model at EICMA 2024 in Italy and Auto Expo 2025 in India, the BMW F 450 GS has now been spotted in production-ready form. The upcoming adventure tourer was previously spied testing in Karnataka, but the test mule was kept heavily camouflaged. Recent spy shots from Germany tell a fuller story with more details on what we can expect from the BMW F 450 GS, which will be manufactured locally in collaboration with TVS Motor Company. The production-ready test mule has a few changes over the F 450 GS Concept while retaining the same silhouette. The quad-LED DRL setup with the GS badge has been replaced with a conventional, vertically stacked dual-LED configuration. The bodywork is now complete and includes the same front visor with what seems to be a broader tail section. The exhaust features the same twin-pipe design, but the muffler has been lowered, possibly to accommodate additional equipment. Also Read : Honda X-ADV 750 launched at ₹ 11.90 lakh. Bookings open Notably, the test mule has put on cast aluminium alloy wheels, leaving behind the tubeless cross-spoke design we saw with the F 450 GS Concept. This suggests that BMW Motorrad may offer a road-focused variant at launch. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. BMW F 450 GS: Hardware and specifications The F 450 GS Concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 featured a quad LED DRL setup and cross-spoke wheels. The BMW F 450 GS utilises a steel bridge trellis frame and a bolt-on rear sub-frame. It features an aluminium swing-arm with a central spring strut. The bike is held up by upside-down forks at the front and a rear monoshock. While the spy shots available do not indicate which components have been used, the F 450 GS's suspension is expected to retain some degree of adjustability with load-sensitive damping. BMW Motorrad has equipped the F 450 GS with an all-new 450 cc parallel twin engine, developed specifically for this model. The motor produces 48 bhp and is tuned for strong torque output at the lower end of the rev band, making it suitable for technical off-road riding as well as city and highway use. It has a unique ignition offset, which is expected to bring a high-revving nature to the bike. Suggested watch: Here is how the BMW R 1300 GS sounds with an Akrapovic exhaust BMW F 450 GS: Pricing and availability With the F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad is gearing to add a middleweight ADV to its Indian portfolio, aimed at riders who want an upgrade over the G 310 GS but not as big as the BMW F 900 GS. The F 450 GS is expected to launch sometime in Q3 2025, with deliveries possibly starting ahead of the festive season. While official pricing details are not available, the motorcycle is expected to be launched in multiple variants, offering varying levels of rider aids and accessories. The expected price for the BMW F 450 GS ranges between ₹ 4 lakh to ₹ 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Check out Upcoming Bikes In India. First Published Date: 21 May 2025, 14:57 PM IST
