This new software update may have left this particular Galaxy Watch model behind

The Galaxy Watch 4 may be nearing the end of its software journey. Samsung has just launched the One UI 8 Watch beta based on Wear OS 6, but this latest update comes with a small catch that might mean a lot for owners of its older smartwatches. In a beta rollout notice shared on Samsung's official forums, the company notes that only users with the Galaxy Watch 5 or newer models are eligible to join the program. While Samsung didn't come out and say that the Watch 4 won't get the new One UI 8 Watch software, the absence of the 2021 model from the list speaks volumes. The Galaxy Watch 4 was Samsung's first smartwatch to switch from Tizen to the revamped Wear OS platform, launching in August 2021. It helped mark a major turning point for Android-based wearables. But that same August date now seems to work against it. Samsung's unofficial update policy for smartwatches has typically included about three years of major support. That puts the Watch 4 on a tight deadline before it ages out — and Wear OS 6 may not arrive in time. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Series went on sale nationwide in August 2021. | Image credit — Samsung To be clear, Samsung's official three-year promise originally applied to its older Tizen-based wearables, not necessarily to newer Wear OS models. That gives the company some wiggle room, though history suggests the clock is ticking. The Galaxy Watch 3, for example, received its final update in late 2023, just three years after launch. The Watch 4 last received an update in May 2025. As for what this means in practice, there's still a chance that smaller updates or security patches could arrive later. But based on the way the One UI 8 Watch rollout is being handled, it seems unlikely that major updates are still planned for the Galaxy Watch 4. It's not exactly unexpected. Devices with limited hardware typically fall off the update roadmap once new features outgrow the older chipsets. Samsung isn't alone in this — both Google's and Apple's smartwatches also follow similar lifespans. Apple generally supports its Apple Watches with software updates and hardware repairs for a minimum of five years from when the product was last sold, which can sometimes bring the support window up to seven years. That said, it would have been nice to see Samsung officially confirm its plans, especially for customers who bought the Watch 4 expecting long-term support. On the flip side, those still using the device can take some comfort in knowing it had a strong run, and the wearable space continues to evolve quickly.

Man jailed for four years over stabbing of former reality TV contestant at birthday party

A man who "savagely" attacked and stabbed a former Bachelorette contestant, who was working as a topless waiter at a 60th birthday party, has been jailed for at least four years. Abdul Kadws Mohammad Amin, 27, of Prospect, was previously found guilty by a District Court jury of a charge of causing harm with the intent to cause harm by stabbing the former Bachelorette contestant in August 2021. The court heard Paddy Colliar had been hired as a topless waiter to provide "entertainment and fun for the party". In sentencing on Thursday, District Court Judge Ian White said Amin had "reacted in a rage" when he attacked Mr Colliar, in the early hours of August 8, 2021. "At about 1:15am … you became involved in a heated argument with your girlfriend's sister when you had your hands at her throat," he said. "Mr Colliar noticed this and immediately intervened. "You then, in my view, deliberately and swiftly stabbed him in the back-left region of his lower back — by miracle no major organs were affected by your unlawful stabbing. "It was a savage and unwarranted response by you." Judge White said Amin, who grinned from the dock throughout the sentencing hearing, made the "deliberate choice" to stab Mr Colliar "based on [his] simmering dislike" throughout the evening. "You continued your dislike of him in court whilst he was giving evidence by somehow trying to intimidate him by moving as close as you could in the dock to the witness box and staring intently at him," he said. Judge White said Amin's "disrespect towards women [had] re-emerged" on the night of the offending. "[Mr Colliar] is justifiably proud for his intervention in your disgraceful behaviour toward your girlfriend's sister, even at the great cost it came to him," he said. Judge White said he took Amin's personal circumstances into consideration when considering the appropriate sentence and noted that he was part of a "good and highly-successful family" and that "it is plain" he is "intelligent". However, he said he found "there is little to inspire confidence in your rehabilitation at the moment". "Unfortunately, I still consider you to be potentially very dangerous towards those that you do not like," he said. The court previously heard Amin did not accept, but respected, the verdict reached by the jury. Judge White sentenced Amin to six years imprisonment with a non-parole period of four years. The sentence was backdated to when he was taken into custody on March 4, 2025.

Reality TV contestant stabbed at birthday party was protecting woman, court hears

A reality tv personality was being a "good Samaritan" when he was stabbed while protecting a woman at a 60th birthday celebration, a court has heard. Abdul Kadws Mohammad Amin, 27, of Prospect, was previously found guilty by jury of an aggravated count of causing harm with the intent to cause harm over the August 2021 stabbing. On Friday, a written victim impact statement was read to the court on behalf of Paddy Colliar, who had been hired to work as a topless waiter at the event. Mr Colliar, who has a large social media following and has appeared on reality television shows including The Bachelorette, FBoy Island and Bachelor in Paradise, said he wanted Amin to be punished for his actions. "Initially I felt numb when I realised I had been stabbed, but then when it sank in and I understood I could have been killed, I was devastated," he said. "I still feel enormous relief for the young woman who may have been seriously hurt by this man, and I'm proud of what I did to help her." In his statement, Mr Colliar, who was not present in the courtroom, wrote that Amin subjected guests at the party to "horrors". "There were adults, including grandparents, at the party who should not have been exposed to such horrors — and there were also children." Prosecutor Matt DeLorme told the court the only appropriate sentence was a term of imprisonment, and that Amin had a history of other offending. "This offending occurred in circumstances where the accused was assaulting a female and Mr Colliar intervened to protect the female from assault, in my submission, a true good Samaritan act, in every essence of the phrase, and he was stabbed for it," he said. Mr DeLorme also condemned Amin's actions throughout the trial, in which he showed "disrespect" to both the victim and court. "His behaviour in court during the proceedings was demonstrative of a lack of responsibility and accountability for his own conduct," he said. District Court Judge Ian White agreed with the submission, and said he also noticed Amin was "staring intently" at Mr Colliar "during the entirety of his evidence". "I noticed his behaviour when the victim was giving evidence was, in my view, an attempt to intimidate the victim as much as he could," he said. "Mr Colliar did not seek to have his evidence heard in another way and he continued his brave … and dignified conduct … under that pressure." Defence lawyer Aaron Fornarino, on behalf of Amin, told the court there "is very little I can say" but that "Mr Amin maintains that he did not stab Mr Colliar". "Nevertheless, Mr Amin does accept the jury's finding as very serious," he said. Mr Fornarino said the offending was "impulsive", however, Judge White disagreed and said he found Amin had shown dislike for Mr Colliar throughout the evening. "I think it had the background of the simmering dislike of Mr Colliar from the moment he met him outside," he said. Outside court, Amin's family said they still supported their son, who they described as "very sick". Amin will be sentenced next month.
