Atlantis, the Palm Unveils 'a World Away': A Transformative New Brand Campaign Inspired by Extraordinary Experiences

Atlantis, The Palm unveils 'A World Away', a visually striking and emotionally resonant brand campaign developed entirely in-house by the Atlantis Dubai team, in collaboration with an award-winning, globally recognized film crew. Created to reshape perceptions, spark imagination, and reignite global awareness, the campaign positions Atlantis, The Palm as far more than a holiday destination. It is a world rich with energy, wonder, and emotion—where guests are invited to leave the ordinary behind and step into the extraordinary. Whether it's a guest overcoming their fears on the iconic waterslide Leap of Faith, or a quiet moment spent face-to-face with marine life, every experience becomes a fulfilled dream. For the first time in Atlantis history, a campaign of this scale is conceived, produced, and executed entirely by the in-house brand and marketing teams—ensuring the final product is creatively ambitious, deeply authentic, and true to the spirit of the resort. To bring the story to life, the Atlantis team collaborates with Bruce Macdonald, winner of the New York Film Festival and International Film Talent Awards, whose cinematic direction anchors the emotional depth of the campaign. He is joined by Simon Duggan, the acclaimed Director of Photography behind The Great Gatsby and Hacksaw Ridge, and a two-time AACTA Award winner for Best Cinematography. The visual narrative is further enhanced by London-based photographer Jonathan Stokes, known for his work with National Geographic Traveler; FPV drone expert André Larsen, one of the world's top talents in aerial filming; and underwater cinematographer Mike Rall, founder of Base Films and a recognised leader in his field. Filming takes place across several of Atlantis, The Palm's most iconic locations, including the grand main lobby, the awe-inspiring Underwater Suite, the renowned Lost Chambers Aquarium, world-class culinary venues under the most Michelin-awarded destination in the region, and the record-breaking Aquaventure World. Visually, 'A World Away' is defined by a distinctive 80/20 composition principle—80% of each frame showcases the vast, dreamlike environment of Atlantis, while 20% highlights authentic human connection. This deliberate balance amplifies both the scale of the resort and the emotional impact of the experience that guests are invited to partake in. The campaign runs across digital, social, in-resort, and out-of-home platforms—not just in the UAE, but across key global markets including Saudi Arabia, the UK, USA, Australia, and Europe.

I Wake Up in Dubai

KARL STEFANOVIC: Welcome to Dubai, we're here live for an out of this world adventure and giving you the chance to be here too … Here we are. SARAH ABO: Oh, it's so wonderful to be here, we cannot wait to show you just how incredible this city is … - Today, Nine Network, 26 May 2025 Hullo, welcome to Media Watch, I'm Linton Besser. And that was Nine's breakfast news program Today broadcasting live from the fishing village turned petro-metropolis of Dubai. With field headquarters pegged out before some of the world's most opulent hotels: SARAH ABO: Welcome back to Today, we are coming to you live from stunning Dubai thanks to Atlantis, The Palm … - Today, Nine Network, 26 May 2025 With the brekky show beaming in not for 1001 Nights but for five to bring us the news from back home, State of Origin and all. And top of the agenda day in and day out was the razzle dazzle of Dubai—beaches, waterparks, hummus and baba ganoush, Lawrence of Arabia-style camel rides and to wash off the sweat and the sand, the ever-crucial spa refresh. Today also interviewed a joyous conga-line of expats: KARL STEFANOVIC: … it's a pretty progressive place to live right … ? - Today, Nine Network, 26 May 2025 Who had not a single bad word to say about life in Dubai: TOM ARNEL: I'd encourage as many people to move over from Australia, get over here quick … - Today, Nine Network, 28 May 2025 KARL STEFANOVIC: … this is like your Bondi … KRIS FADE: Yeah, this is like Bondi … - Today, Nine Network, 28 May 2025 Well except it's really not. In fact the UAE is a repressive nation-state governed by an absolute monarchy whose arbitrary and fickle approach to justice and the law can create frightening risks for those who move there for work, like 28-year-old Emirates Airlines flight attendant Tori Towey, an Irish citizen who in June last year was strip searched and charged with attempting suicide after fleeing domestic violence: TORI TOWEY: … it's marketed as 'it's very relaxed, that it's changed over the years' but everything's ok until it's not ok … - Newsnight, BBC, 30 August, 2024 The risks are also very real for common tourists, like one British woman who was charged with the crime of engaging in extra-marital sex in 2016 after reporting to police that she'd been the victim of a gang-rape. Same-sex relations are also punishable by imprisonment in the UAE. Radha Stirling, who runs a business assisting and advocating for expats in hot water, says the dangers are real: People face imprisonment for criticising the country, for criticising its censorship … for leaving a negative hotel review on Google, or even for discussing high profile cases like Princess Latifa. - Email, Radha Stirling, Founder & CEO Detained in Dubai, 29 May 2025 Princess Latifa being the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Dubai's ruler who imprisoned her after she attempted a desperate escape as reported by Today's sister program 60 Minutes: PRINCESS LATIFA: More than a year now I've been by myself, solitary confinement. - 60 Minutes, Nine Network, 1 March 2021 One local official told the program: WOMAN: … I would say in the UAE women are quite lucky. SARAH ABO: So is freedom of speech encouraged or suppressed? WOMAN: Freedom of speech, yes everyone is allowed to say whatever they want like any concerns, their opinion and so on, but you have to say it in let's say in a very formal way, a respectful way. - Today, Nine Network, 29 May 2025 Yes Sarah, just be sure to keep it respectful, not least because the UAE is one of the world's most dangerous places from which to report if you intend to do any real journalism, that is. This year the country slid further down the Press Freedom Index, now at 164 of 180 countries mingling with those awful corners of the planet where it is a crime to speak your mind: To suggest there is free speech in the UAE is laughable … What viewers are seeing is not journalism, it is scripted public relations. - Email, Radha Stirling, Founder & CEO Detained in Dubai, 29 May 2025 Despite the entire outside broadcast being funded by UAE government-backed businesses, which Nine did disclose, a spokesman for the media company told us the 'event TV' project had not been vetted by the foreign government: Nine retained editorial control at all times, with all editorial decisions remaining independent … - Email, Nine Spokesperson, 1 June 2025 It's not ideal but it is a reality that journalists targeted with lavish hospitality sometimes accept it. But there's no such thing as a free lunch and benevolent benefactors are often in possession of a reputation that needs, well a little polish. The challenge for any journalist who accepts such a gift is to not trade it in for their professional obligation to ask the tough questions, canvas inconvenient facts and indeed to bite the hand that feeds them. A test which Today itself must surely know it failed in spectacular fashion.

Richard Wilkins cowers and covers his face as he conquers his greatest fear during Today show broadcast in Dubai

A very brave Richard Wilkins stepped up and conquered his greatest fear this week. The veteran Nine entertainment guru, 70, was on the scene in Dubai on Thursday, where the Today show is broadcasting this week. After discovering Richard's apparent fear of heights, Today host Karl Stefanovic said there was only one thing for it - to send Richard 300 meters into the air. A segment, titled 'Where in Dubai is Dickie, featured Richard reporting from the Dubai Balloon - a tethered balloon located at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. The eye-catching tourist attraction which rises vertically to 300 metres, offers panoramic views of the stunning Dubai skyline. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Dickie was a little bit upset with Sarah [Abo, Today co-host] for questioning his ability or inability to go to any height, so we thought we'd send him into a hot air balloon today,' Karl said. The segment then cut to Richard, standing nervously on the viewing platform in the balloon. Clearly out of his comfort zone, Richard clung tightly to a railing as he sheepishly began speaking. 'Good evening, it might almost be time to say "Dubai"' Richard said. 'As you know, I'm not great with heights, so this really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me. 'But yes, this is the Dubai Balloon, which is moored to the ground, I'm happy to report!' Ever the consummate professional, Richard soldiered on in spite of his pulse-raising fear, as the camera panned around to show a remarkable Dubai skyline. 'It goes up 300 metres in the air which is the height of a 100 storey building, no less,' he added. 'Even for someone like me, Karl and Sarah, who is not a fan of getting up in the air like this, it really is something pretty special.' The camera then cut back to Richard who could be seen cowering on his knees as he continued to deliver his report. 'You can see how brave I'm being, up there getting a view of all the sights and sounds of Dubai,' he said, covering his eyes in fear. Richard's display tickled Karl, who could not help but giggle at his colleague's predicament. Co-host Sarah, meanwhile, praised Richard for his bravery. 'I'm so proud of you, Dickie. you're doing so well,' she said as Karl continued to guffaw. 'You're a funny man,' Karl said to Richard between chuckles. Fans were also quick to praise Richard on social media for facing his fears. 'Nice one, Dickie,' one fan commented. 'I can't stand on a step ladder even.' Another suggested that it was cruel to put the Nine star in such a precarious position. 'I'd be just the same Dickie. They shouldn't be taking the mickey out of you,' they wrote. Richard's brave display comes after he shared a very surprising photo with notorious fan of heights Tom Cruise. The Channel Nine entertainment reporter, 70, shared an image of himself posing alongside the Hollywood superstar in London as they discussed his latest film Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning. What caught the eye of many is the size disparity between the two men, with Wilkins appearing to tower over the 62-year-old Cruise. The perspective of the photo, with Wilkins more in the foreground, does exaggerate the height difference between the two, although the Today star is quite a bit taller. Richard cuts an imposing figure at 1.88m (or 6'1") while Tom stands at a reported 1.7m (5'6"). 'Tom looks like he's come out of a Kinder Surprise egg,' one follower joked. Alluding to the strange perspective of the image, another offered: 'That photo doesn't look right - I know Tom Cruise is short but the photo looks distorted somehow?'
