Junior police chiefs join the Waterloo Regional Police Service for a day
It's not often that rookies get to call the shots, but three of them have been catapulted up the ranks of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Students from across the region penned essays, made works of art or created videos to showcase what they would do if they had the chance to be a junior chief of police for a day. Olivia, a Grade 6 student from Chalmers Street Public School in Cambridge, and Arnav, a Grade 5 student from Sandhills Public School in Kitchener, were both chosen to fill the role of deputy police chief. Olivia wrote an essay on how important the job is and couldn't believe her eyes when she won. 'I was skeptical at first. I didn't know if it was real or not,' Olivia said. 'My friend was checking his email, so I was like, 'Oh, I should check mine.' I saw that I won, and I was like, 'Wait is this real?'' Meanwhile, Arnav drew a picture showing how police officers help the community. He said his artwork took him a week to complete. 'When I came back from school, my mom showed me [that I won] and I was screaming because it was so exciting for me,' he said. The coveted role of junior chief went to Tasha, a Grade 7 student from Wilmot, who created a video about helping someone in need. 'I'm so happy to meet everyone at the police station,' he said. '[My favourite was] the canine unit.' The winners reported for duty on Tuesday at 10 a.m. They were given a police uniform, toured the headquarters, visited the canine unit, saw inside a cruiser and interacted with officers throughout the day. The official Chief of Police, Mark Crowell, said the annual competition helps the organization connect with young people in the community. 'Youth are our future,' Crowell said. 'To bring them into our organization, to hear from them, to learn from them, that makes us stronger and better and we're trying to create the best police organization possible. They get an inside view of our operations, and we learn from them on how we can serve better. It's a win-win.'

15-year-old from Kolkata breaks four card-stacking world records in 24 hours
Arnav Daga, a teenager from Kolkata, set out to test his endurance and succeeded in claiming four Guinness World Records for card stacking within a single 19 October 2024, 15-year-old Arnav challenged himself to a marathon task, stacking playing cards to new heights in one hour, eight hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours. By the end of the day, he held records in all four Indian man with a passion for card-stacking set himself the ultimate challenge – 24 hours to break four records," Guinness World Records said as they posted Arnav's pictures in a post on Instagram. They added, "Arnav Daga armed himself with hundreds of cards – and a dream – on 19 October 2024. And by the time the day was done, he had earned records for the tallest house of cards built in one hour, eight hours, 12 hours and 24 hours." In 2023, he earned a Guinness World Record for building the world's largest playing card structure, recreating four iconic landmarks from his city: the Writers' Building, Shaheed Minar, Salt Lake Stadium, and St. Paul's nearly 1.43 lakh cards, without any glue or tape, he built a structure that measured 40 feet long, 11 feet 4 inches tall, and 16 feet 8 inches recent feat didn't come without pressure. Arnav had previously held the one-hour stacking record before losing it to China's Tian Rui, who reached 32 levels. Rui had earlier set the bar at 27 levels, which Arnav had briefly surpassed. This back-and-forth rivalry pushed Arnav to aim for the one-hour attempt, Arnav started over to take on the remaining time-based began stacking cards at the age of eight. His desire to break world records took root during the Covid-19 lockdown, and years of practice brought him to this beat Tian Rui's previous eight and 12-hour records of 50 levels, though the competition is far from over. Tian has already reclaimed the eight-hour title with a 62-level Arnav, the challenge was more than a personal goal, it was about pushing limits.

Arnav Maggo blends music and acting in Hai Junoon
Actor-singer Arnav Maggo plays Saransh, a passionate college vocalist, in the musical drama Hai Junoon . Starring alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh, Arnav brings a mix of musical experience and acting skill to his role as a member of the band Supersonics at Anderson's College, where Neil plays their mentor. The role allowed Arnav to draw from his real-life background as a trained musician. 'Saransh's journey mirrored my own — a singer chasing his dream,' he says. 'It felt like I was telling my own story on screen.' His musical roots helped him during the audition and throughout the show's performance-heavy sequences. Hai Junoon marks Arnav's second major screen appearance following his debut in Neeraj Pandey's The Freelancer . He also led the short film Aloo Bhujia , directed by Lakshmi Iyer and produced by Gul Panag. The film was showcased at various festivals. Although Arnav and Jacqueline Fernandez , who also debuts on OTT with this series, don't share scenes, they met during promotions. 'She is extremely sweet,' Arnav says. The show follows a campus music rivalry between two bands — The Misfits and Supersonics — as they compete for the GOATs Trophy. Arnav, who grew up in Delhi and studied in New York, splits his time between Dubai, Delhi, and Mumbai. He shares a personal connection to Kolkata, where his mother was raised and his grandfather lived. He fondly remembers childhood visits, especially the food at Bengali weddings.
