Saudi Arabia's CST reports network performance in 2025 Hajj
Saudi Arabia's Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) reported over 181.2 million local and international voice calls in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites during the 2025 Hajj season. The strong performance reflects advanced telecom infrastructure and coordinated efforts among service providers. The CST reported a 32% year-on-year (YoY) increase in mobile internet speeds during the 2025 Hajj, reaching 297 Mbps between May 28 and June 6. Daily data usage per person hit 1,259 MB, more than 2.9 times the global average, CST said in a statement sent by Argaam. The commission attributed the results to strong government support and effective coordination between the public and private sectors involved in the Hajj season. The Kingdom's advanced digital infrastructure played a key role in enhancing pilgrims' experience, health, safety, and security. Various tech innovations, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools used for crowd management, contributed to service quality. These technologies enabled authorities to deliver reliable and high-quality services during the pilgrimage. The commission said it mobilized all resources to ensure high-quality telecom and IT services, working closely with telecom providers. This year's AI-powered crowd control system, developed in partnership with Aramco Digital, was successfully deployed with support from the High Commission for Industrial Security, Saudi Water Authority, and Saudi Railways Co.

Saudi Arabia Enhances Hajj Experience with Free High-Speed Internet Access
Saudi Arabia is revolutionizing the Hajj experience by providing free, high-speed internet access to every pilgrim this year. This initiative transforms the spiritual journey into one of the most digitally connected events on Earth. The Kingdom has deployed over 10,500 WiFi access points throughout Mecca, Medina, and the holy sites. This extensive network eliminates the need for visitors to search for connectivity during the world's largest religious gathering. According to Saad Al Shanbari, spokesperson for the Hajj Communications and Technology System, this initiative enriches pilgrims' spiritual and logistical experiences through seamless connectivity. 'There's no need to search for WiFi,' he stated. 'Internet access is now available for all pilgrims, everywhere.' Advanced Network Infrastructure for Pilgrims In addition to the WiFi rollout, the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has implemented 100% 4G and 5G network coverage across Mecca, Medina, and the holy sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. This advanced infrastructure supports high data volumes while ensuring reliable connectivity for both pilgrims and operations personnel. The commission also launched an AI-driven crowd management system in partnership with Aramco Digital. This system uses advanced surveillance cameras and specialized communication networks to monitor crowd flow and safety in real time. 'This year, we've deployed smart surveillance systems in partnership with Aramco Digital to manage crowd flows through AI-based monitoring and secure communications networks,' Al Shanbari added. He noted that over 4,000 telecom personnel have mobilized to support pilgrims during the Hajj season. With these advancements, Saudi Arabia ensures that every pilgrim enjoys a connected and safe Hajj experience. Saudi Arabia's commitment to integrating advanced technology into the Hajj experience sets a new standard. Pilgrims can now focus more on their spiritual journey with the assurance of seamless connectivity and enhanced safety measures. This year's Hajj promises to be a transformative experience, blending tradition with cutting-edge technology. Short link : Post Views: 2

CST, Aramco Digital Launch AI-Powered Crowd Management Trial at Holy Sites
With support from the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), Aramco Digital has successfully conducted a trial of an AI-powered crowd management system at the Holy Sites. Enabled through a license for the National Specialized Communications Network, the trial aimed to enhance operational efficiency and safety during peak pilgrimage periods. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS), the Saudi Water Authority, and Saudi Arabia Railways. CST Key figures attended the trial, including CST Acting Governor Eng. Haytham AlOhali, Aramco Digital CEO Eng. Nabil Al-Nuaim, HCIS Assistant Governor Eng. Ibrahim Al Abu Issa, and Aramco Connect President Eng. Eid AlHarbi. Aramco Digital Board Chairman Eng. Ahmad Al-Khowaiter joined the event virtually from Dhahran. According to CST, the system enables real-time voice and video communication among operational teams during the Hajj season, ensuring consistent, high-quality services for pilgrims. The trial also demonstrated secure, high-performance connectivity with instant responsiveness, unaffected by network congestion. A key highlight was the use of edge artificial intelligence (Edge AI) for real-time crowd analytics. By processing video and image data at the edge, the system allowed for immediate decision-making and reduced network load, significantly improving overall operational responsiveness. The trial operated on a dedicated wireless communication network in the 450 MHz frequency band, licensed to Aramco Digital in October 2024. This initiative underscores CST's commitment to leveraging digital infrastructure to support critical sectors during Hajj. It also exemplifies the strength of public-private collaboration in enhancing safety, efficiency, and the overall experience for pilgrims.
