Bridgerton's Simone Ashley faces Hollywood erasure despite acting with Brad Pitt

Lead of Netflix's hit series Bridgerton, romantic lead of Picture This, and certified fan of the Formula One Grand Prix, Simone Ashley faces 'Hollywood erasure' after significant cut to role in F1 Arguably one of Netflix's biggest stars, Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley appears to be facing 'Hollywood erasure' as her newest role is reduced, despite being cast alongside Hollywood legend Brad Pitt. Apple Original Films' most recent venture, F1: The Movie, cast Bridgerton lead Simone Ashley, exciting fans of both the Netflix hit series and Formula one - since the actress is known to be a genuine fan of the sport. However, despite being spotted filming between several Grand Prix tracks, it's suggested that Ashley's role was cut to last only a few seconds. ‌ Fans who attended an advance screening of the film described Ashley's role to be a "brief cameo" rather than the significant representation we had hoped for, amongst a dominated cast of white leads. ‌ Ashley's reduction says it all about Hollywood attitudes to brown women and the lack of space for them as returning leads on our screens. A disappointment to fans worldwide, the marketing gaslighting of a community of women who have repeatedly been shunned from media representation has failed to land this time around, considering Simone's success in an age that still refuses to cast deep-tanned brown women as romantic protagonists. We can see this across every genre of Hollywood and TV - the Indian comedic-relief (Raj in The Big Bang Theory, Anwar in Skins, Karen in the 2024 Mean Girls adaptation) has been the only space for South Asians for decades... until we began to create our own. Simone Ashley is said to now be producing her own work to stay in work, working as both the romantic lead and executive producer in Amazon Prime's Picture This. But why must we create our own 'third space' in the first place? Audiences crave to see themselves on screen, so why are we recycling the same white, male leads that have clung to the cinematic stage for decades? Multi-million budget films clearly rely on diverse leads to create the necessary PR frenzy now needed for a project's success, only to edit out the person's effect in the final cut. This master plan that profits off a display of diversity in public, and slashes representation in practice, is a regressive eye-opener for many fans, and extremely harmful to the South Asian community that celebrates Simone's success and have suffered decades without true representation. ‘Echo Valley' Review: Julianne Moore And Sydney Sweeney Are Dynamite In Nail-Biting, Riveting Thriller

Pair stars like Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, add BAFTA-winning director Michael Pearce and a top screenwriter of, among others, the Emmy-winning Mare of Easttown in Brad Ingelsby and major producers including Ridley Scott and it is not a surprise that they have collectively cooked up one barnburner of a thriller. And the 'barnburner' part you can take literally. It is called Echo Valley and will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on June 13, but this could do well in theaters (it supposedly will play in a select few). Nevertheless, it is gripping stuff no matter how you find it. More from Deadline Sydney Sweeney And Julianne Moore To Star In Apple Original Films' 'Echo Valley' Will 'M3GAN 2.0' Run Brad Pitt's 'F1' Off The Road At U.S. Box Office? - Early Look Mikey Madison In Talks To Step In For Sydney Sweeney On A24's 'Masque Of The Red Death' Moore, in fine form, plays Kate, divorced and now estranged from her ex-husband Richard (Kyle MacLachlan, in all too briefly) and grieving the loss of her wife, also has to deal with an on-and-off relationship with volatile daughter Claire (Sydney Sweeney), who is running with the wrong crowd and hopelessly addicted to drugs. Kate has been doing everything she can to help her and get her back on track. But she is broke thanks to Claire's travails, and even resorts to begging her ex for money to fix her Echo Valley Farm roof which is one storm away from caving in. To make ends meet she boards horses and gives riding lessons, but it is not enough. Claire has a run-in when her bad-news boyfriend Ryan (Edmund Donovan) shows up with his petty criminal drug dealer Jackie Lyman (Domhnall Gleeson), the latter strong-arming her and demanding the return of a case with drugs that she unknowingly tossed over a bridge during a fight with Ryan. He demands $10,000 until Kate discovers the altercation and kicks him out. After hysterically trying to force money from her mother, Claire takes off. Things don't go well from there and when she finally returns, a mess with blood all over her, Kate asks what happened. Turns out another encounter with Ryan and Jackie ended violently and Kate confesses she accidentally killed Ryan. 'Did you go to the police?' her mother asks. 'No,' she replies. At this moment what is a mother who has lost everything going to do with the daughter, no matter how difficult, who is all she has left? 'Where's the body?' Kate asks. From this point on hang on to your seat because you will be jumping out of it due to the myriad twists and turns this wild ride takes us on. Ingelsby is an exceptional storyteller and has provided a real crackerjack of a thriller with this premise that also examines family dynamics and just how much is too much unconditional love of a mother for her child. For a while I was thinking this is all a great advertisement against ever having kids, and it is only because Moore is just so exceptional in this kind of harrowing situation that you believe she would go as far as she does indeed go for the sake of saving Claire from herself. Echo Valley is the perfect match for someone of Moore's prodigious talents, a role requiring physicality, strong emotions and belief this is a woman with more than one trick up her sleeve to survive and keep what is left of her family together. Sweeney goes for it too, a true powder keg going off at any moment, and she makes Claire into one humdinger of a problem. In Sweeney's hands you can see someone believably falling under the spell of such a dead-end lover, but you just want to lock her up and throw away the key. The dynamic, ever-changing and charged between the two, is palpable. Into all this comes Jackie Lyman, and I had no idea it was Gleeson who totally transforms into this creepy little small-time monster who terrorizes Claire, and then most memorably Kate (there are shades of Max Cady from Cape Fear here). Gleeson delivers one of the more convincing bad dude turns in recent years, evil personified but a guy who thinks he is much smarter than he really is. You just hate Jackie, but Gleeson you cannot take you eyes off whenever he is on screen. Among the rest of the cast, Fiona Shaw is excellent as the grounding best friend who tries to calm an increasingly troubled Kate. There is also fine work from Albert Jones as a police detective and Donovan as the loser boyfriend. Pearce's slick production is aided immeasurably by Benjamin Kracun's first-rate cinematography and the superb atmospheric production design from Keith P. Cunningham. Producers are Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, Kevin J. Walsh and Ingelsby. Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Rosé, and More Feature on ‘F1' Soundtrack

The spectacle of Formula 1 does not exist without the noise: the sound of rubber zipping over the track at 200 mph, the clatter of gravel as a car skids over a corner, the collective gasp of a crowd as a chassis crumples into a barrier — or another car — at unfathomable speed, and the pop of a champagne cork over a trophy. Now, following its success with the Oscar-, Golden Globe-, and Grammy-winning life-in-plastic soundtrack for Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Atlantic Records is looking to bring the energy of the racetrack to the big screen with a star-studded companion to Apple Original Films' F1. More from Rolling Stone Ed Sheeran Presses 'Play' on Upcoming Album With Nostalgic Single 'Old Phone' Don Toliver, Doja Cat Rev Up 'F1 the Movie' Soundtrack With 'Lose My Mind' Ed Sheeran Dumps Photos From Old Phone Before Dropping New Song 'Old Phone' Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Raye, Tate McRae, Don Toliver, Madison Beer, Rosé, Tiësto, and Chris Stapleton are just some of the artists on F1 the Album. The soundtrack's 17 original songs will buttress Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and Javier Bardem's high-speed international podium chase in theaters this summer. See the full lineup below. The album is produced and overseen by Grammy Award winner and Atlantic Records West Coast President Kevin Weaver, the producer of Barbie the Album, Twisters: The Album, and other soundtracks. The F1 companion LP will be available in full on June 27, the same day as the film's premiere. Atlantic Records and F1 will be counting down the film's release with weekly single drops — beginning with Wednesday's release of 'Lose My Mind,' a synth-heavy collaboration between Toliver and Doja that feels like cruising down a neon-illuminated avenue on a late-night drive. Which is exactly where we find Toliver in the single's accompanying music video. Directed by Christian Breslauer — of Lil Nas X's 'Industry Baby' fame — the video is a study in the anatomy of a Formula 1 car, a race suit, and Doja's engine grease-slicked body. Detail shots showcase the gold and black livery of the fictional car that Pitt and Idris will pilot in F1 — one that any real team on the track wouldn't hesitate to adopt. From Dom Dolla's moody electronica to Stapleton's roaring country to Peggy Gou's meditative Eurodance and Myke Towers' lowrider-worthy reggaeton, the F1 soundtrack charts a path that mirrors the seasonal race calendar's journey across the globe. Directed and produced by Joseph Kosinski alongside co-executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the film stars Pitt as washed-up 'greatest that never was' driver Sonny Hayes, who agrees to come out of retirement to help his friend and former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Bardem) save his struggling racing team, Apex Grand Prix. His new teammate, Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris), is a rookie upstart with all the raw talent and none of the experience, and the two will battle for the checkered flag in a cutthroat sport where no one shares a podium — much less a championship. Formula 1 devotees will almost inevitably be aware of the film's development, given that major portions of it were filmed on site at major race tracks over the course of the 2023 and 2024 season. Formula 1's biggest names will also feature in the film. All 20 drivers of 2023, including six-time champion Lewis Hamilton (who is also a producer on the project), four-time champion Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Fernando Alonso, and Sergio 'Checo' Perez, will make appearances. Fan-favorite, former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner is also set to have a cameo. The first full trailer for F1, released in March, promises visual thrills that will put viewers who haven't had the pleasure of testing out a simulator closer to the track and the cars than ever before. High-speed overtakes, brutal collisions, and paddock drama combine for what is poised to be the blockbuster of the summer. 'The F1 movie is as authentic a racing movie as has ever been,' Hamilton said in a behind-the-scenes video released earlier this year. The film will be back on the real-world paddock this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix, where Atlantic Records and F1 will host a takeover featuring a replica of the film's Apex Grand Prix team, album previews, race simulators, and appearances by some of the stars and artists collaborating on the film. In F1's soundtrack, Atlantic Records promises a high-rpm joyride for the ages, and they have yet to build a car that can get us to premiere day fast enough. Track List 1. Outlander's Caitriona Balfe lands major new role after saying goodbye to Claire Fraser

Outlander star Caitriona Balfe has already lined up her next project after completing work on the acclaimed Starz series After bidding farewell to her beloved character Claire Fraser in Outlander, Caitriona Balfe has swiftly moved on to her next venture. The Irish star, who has graced our screens alongside Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser in the Starz hit series for a decade, is set to appear in the final season yet to be broadcast. ‌ Following the completion of Outlander's eighth season last year, Balfe has already made waves with her role in the Hollywood thriller The Amateur, featuring Rami Malek, which premiered in cinemas the previous month. ‌ Balfe's latest role will see her join the ensemble of Apple Original Films' Tenzing, a biopic chronicling the life of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, famed for his historic ascent of Mount Everest in 1953. Jennifer Peedom, known for her documentary Sherpa, which also delves into the same topic, directs the film. Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe are set to play New Zealand explorer Edmund Hillary and English expedition leader Colonel John Hunt, respectively, reports the Scottish Daily Express. In Tenzing, Balfe takes on the role of Jill Henderson, a friend of Tenzing who played a pivotal role in organising expeditions to Mount Everest. Deadline provides a glimpse into the film's narrative: "Tibetan born Tenzing Norgay, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, both outsiders on a British Expedition, defied insurmountable odds to achieve what was once thought impossible, reaching the summit of the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest. "After six previous attempts, Tenzing risked everything for one final venture. He had to navigate treacherous politics and perilous weather as he embarked on the most significant climb of his life. ‌ "Through it all, he did so with humour, warmth, and generosity towards his fellow climbers, but also deep reverence and respect for the sacred Mother Goddess of his Mountain, Jomolungma." The film is being produced by the Oscar-winning See-Saw Films, celebrated for The King's Speech, while the script is in the hands of Oscar nominee Luke Davies, known for Lion. Balfe's fans from Outlander eager to delve into her other big-screen performances can recall her Golden Globe and BAFTA-nominated role in Kenneth Branagh's esteemed period drama Belfast. ‌ Her career also includes roles opposite Christian Bale in the film Le Mans '66 (Ford v Ferrari), Orlando Bloom in The Cut and sharing the screen with George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Money Monster. ‌ Following the gripping seventh season finale of Outlander this past January, enthusiasts eagerly await the final chapter. The last season will draw from Diana Gabaldon's eighth novel, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, as well as elements of Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Gabaldon has recently announced that her blockbuster series will culminate with the tenth book, named A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out.
