2 vegetable vendors die after balcony collapses on them in Ghaziabad's DLF Colony
Two street vendors who were injured Wednesday after being hit by debris from a balcony that collapsed from the third floor of a building in Ghaziabad's DLF Colony in Shalimar Garden area have died.
According to the Ghaziabad police, one of the men died shortly after the accident, and the second succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 10.30 pm Wednesday when the vendors were selling vegetables on their carts beneath the building.
The victims were identified as Mohammad Saleem, 60, a resident of Shaheed Nagar in Ghaziabad, and Mohammad Ayyub, 60, from New Mustafabad in Delhi.
'The boundary wall of the balcony gave way and fell on the vendors. One was taken to a hospital in Ghaziabad but couldn't survive. The other was shifted to a Delhi hospital, where he passed away during treatment,' said Atul Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Shalimar Garden Circle.
The police said the balcony was structurally unsound and collapsed due to its poor condition.
They said the flat was a rented accommodation, and the owners do not live in Ghaziabad.
So far, no formal complaints have been lodged by the families of the deceased.
On Thursday, a flowerpot fell from an upper floor onto a Scorpio, bought just a week earlier, at Supertech Eco Village-1.
