Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan should be deported: Tripura minister Animesh Debbarma
Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma said Thursday that the state should detect and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan, and Rohingya persons, amidst the Centre's directive to take action against them across the country. 'If you want to save Tripura, for those who truly love Tripura, make sure you tie all the illegal immigrants entering the state from Myanmar or Pakistan and beat them all the way till the Akhaura (ICP) or the Sabroom (ICP) gate before pushing them to the other side. Don't just let them go. They should be deported by flogging their backs livid red,' said the senior leader of the ruling ally TIPRA Motha party. In an oblique reference to non-tribals who fled to Tripura before 1971 amid Pakistani atrocities, the minister said they should not forget that they migrated to the state in tattered condition, barely escaping torture across the border. Stating that if more influx continues, everyone in Tripura would face a crisis and wouldn't have enough space to live in, the minister said, 'Why is there a job crisis? Why is there a price hike in the state? Why are land prices skyrocketing in Agartala?' Claiming TIPRA Motha is the only political party that holds movements, Debbarma said he would continue fighting for the people of Tripura. 'I am a minister today. I may not remain a minister tomorrow. But the dofa (community) should remain. Tripura should remain as well. I shall fight for the people and not for being a minister,' he said. He also urged Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to review the role of Tripura Police's Mobile Task Force, which usually oversees checking or bordering areas to prevent illegal immigrants. On June 14, a delegation of the TIPRA Motha party led by Debbarma submitted a memorandum to Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his supervision and control over the process of detection, deportation, and deletion of illegal migrants who entered the state after March 24, 1971. The party also demanded to set up a Special Central Task Force to supervise strictly for the detection and deportation of the illegal migrants.

Motha delegation seeks immediate deportation of illegal immigrants
Agartala: A 15-member delegation of the ruling BJP's coalition partner, TIPRA Motha, led by forest minister of Tripura Animesh Debbarma, called on the governor on Saturday to press for the immediate deportation of illegal immigrants from the state and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister. Reiterating Motha's stand to deport all individuals who entered Tripura illegally after May 24, 1971, the delegation stated that such migrants must be pushed back to Bangladesh or sent to their countries of origin. The party has been pursuing the demand for the last few days after the ministry of home affairs (MHA) issued a notification last month. "While other states are actively identifying and deporting illegal foreigners as per directions from MHA, Tripura remains the only state where the administration has completely failed to act. This inaction has turned Tripura into a gateway for continuous illegal entry of Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals, resulting in demographic imbalance and a threat to security," Debbarma said. They demanded the formation of a high-level committee comprising representatives from all central paramilitary forces and state police to coordinate a pushback operation against illegal migrants who entered the state after the cutoff date. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Зачем поджигать лавровый перед сном? Undo The memorandum stresses the urgent need for the Centre's intervention to safeguard the indigenous population and uphold national security. The party accuses the state machinery of deliberately ignoring the issue for political gains. However, sources indicated that the implementation of such a demand may be politically sensitive. Many individuals who migrated after 1971 have since acquired Indian citizenship — some even serving as elected representatives.

Tripura jumbo corridor to be ready by winter: Minister
Agartala: The state govt has announced plans to complete a dedicated elephant corridor along NH-8 at Teliamura in Khowai district by the upcoming winter season. Forest minister Animesh Debbarma said the safe passage for elephants is under construction in the Atharamura hill range extending to Baramura. Communities near Atharamura foothills have experienced difficulties with wild elephants over several years, with herds damaging crops, homes and local infrastructure while searching for sustenance. "The forest department always tries to look at the incidents in sympathetic consideration for both villagers and the elephants as well. Because of food shortage inside the forest, elephants ravage human habitations. Villagers grow crops for their livelihood, but elephants destroy them," said the minister, referencing incidents in Kalyanpur, Krishnapur and Mungiakami areas. The administration's decision to establish a corridor to the buffer zone stems from the understanding that well-fed elephants within forests are less likely to venture into villages, said Debbarma. The passage, situated on the Assam-Agartala national highway, intends to reduce conflicts between humans and elephants. The region hosts around 40 elephants, predominantly in Khowai, Dhalai and Gomati districts. The forest department implements traditional techniques, modern monitoring systems and community engagement to minimise human-wildlife encounters. "The safe corridor along NH-8 is currently under development. We have informed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited about our plan for the elephants, and they have agreed to collaborate. The project is likely to be completed by the end of the year," said Debbarma. He also revealed plans for upgrading Sepahijala Zoo to international standards, highlighting recent achievements including the birth of three tiger cubs as evidence of improved facilities.
