Angèle Partners with Chanel Beauty for its New Scent

Pioneering a form of urban pop that's fresh and fluid while championing feminist causes close to her heart, singer and songwriter Angèle is a rising French and Belgian pop music star. She topped charts for nine weeks in a row with her 2018 track, Tout Oublier, collaborated with Dua Lipa on Fever in 2020 and made her musical film debut in Anette in 2020. In 2023, she won the award for the most streamed female album during the annual French music awards and last year, she performed at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony. Not only is she the face of Chanel Beauty's latest launch – Chance Eau Splendide – but she also composed a new song, A Little More, for the campaign. The new fragrance, with its revitalising fruity-floral scent and refreshing lilac tint, was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's reverence for luck – which, more than just good fortune, is an everlasting mindset to embody. This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. How do you manifest luck and good fortune? I've been very lucky in my life, and being here today is proof of that! I believe I also have the good fortune of being an optimist. I like to move toward joy. We must never forget that one of the solutions to anxiety is joy. Joy is very powerful – it's a real mantra for me. As long as we can, as long as we have the opportunity, we must cherish and maintain our joy, which opens the door to even more luck and optimism. If it doesn't work this time, it will tomorrow. There is no luck without audacity. What's the biggest risk you've ever taken? I took my two managers by the hand, and we went to Paris to play our demos. It was a real gamble! I suddenly found myself face to face with people from the music industry. I was afraid they wouldn't understand the direction I wanted to go in. I wanted to remain independent, to write and produce my songs under my own label and publishing company. It was a big risk. At the time, the path to independence, which today seems obvious to me, was difficult to take. And I'm still grateful for that audacity – that desire to dive headfirst, that I had at that age. Wearing perfume is like wearing invisible armour. What does this gesture mean to you? For me, wearing perfume is a way of giving yourself momentum. Strength. When I put on perfume, I instinctively set myself in motion. My perfume is the final touch before leaving the house and opening myself up to the world, to others. It gives me confidence. After getting dressed and putting on makeup, I put on my perfume, and I feel complete. The new fragrance is inspired by the kind of luck you seize. Do you remember the day you encountered a life-changing opportunity? When I was 20, this incredible woman I'd known since childhood contacted me and said she'd seen my videos on Instagram. She asked me, "What if we worked together?" At that point, I'd never dared to consider a career as a musician. It seemed like a totally insurmountable challenge. Nevertheless, I agreed to discuss it. And in the end, it wasn't just a discussion. When I got home, I immediately got to work, installed music production software which I still use today, and created my first songs, productions and lyrics. There are encounters that change your life; people you meet along the way who transform your journey.

AlUla Showcases Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Vision at Jardins, Jardin Opening in Paris - Middle East Business News and Information

The ancient oasis city of AlUla, located in north western Saudi Arabia, makes its debut today at Jardins, Jardin, Paris's prestigious annual gardening event targeting a high end discerning segment. The luxury heritage destination will showcase its remarkable landscapes and rich cultural heritage to the important and growing French market through an immersive installation, the AlUla Oasis Garden, designed by acclaimed landscape architect Pierre Alexandre Risser. Launched in partnership with The French Agency for the Development of AlUla (AFALULA), the AlUla Oasis Garden challenges perceptions and reveals the unexpected natural abundance of Saudi Arabia's ancient oasis city. The installation authentically recreates the destination's distinctive natural environment that is synonymous with towering palms, fragrant citrus trees, figs, pomegranates, and native plant species. Offering an additional glimpse into AlUla's rich cultural landscape, an exhibition of works by renowned photographer Gilles Bensimon, set within a purpose-built pavilion, will provide visitors with compelling visual narratives of AlUla's dramatic landscapes and archaeological treasures. AlUla is a thriving oasis where over 4 million date palms, 77,000 Moringa trees, and 29 citrus fruit varieties flourish, nourished by 80 natural springs. In addition, the destination's commitment to environmental stewardship is evidenced by the dedication of over 50% of its territory to protected areas, comprising Sharaan national park along with five nature reserves. This conservation approach aligns with AlUla's careful development of luxury accommodations, including the five-star Our Habitas and Banyan Tree AlUla resorts, ideally located in the secluded Ashar Valley, the history-inspired The Chedi Hegra near Saudi's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Dar Tantora The House Hotel, nestled within the labyrinthine streets of AlUla Old Town. Luxury travel specialist Angèle, founded by Nora Gherras and bringing 30 years of Middle East expertise, will be present throughout the event. Angèle offers unparalleled insight into the region, crafting bespoke experiences from hot air balloon adventures over sandstone canyons to refined Bedouin-style stargazing and luxury safaris in the Sharaan National Park. AlUla, which is renowned for its 200,000 years of human history, including 7,000 years of successive civilisations, most notably represented by the ancient Nabatean city of Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO Heritage Site, is readily accessible via AlUla International Airport, which welcomes private jets and offers direct connections through carriers including Saudia, Qatar Airways, FlyDubai, and Air France (code share services on Saudia) making this revitalising destination readily accessible from major global cities. About AlUla: Located 1,100 km from Riyadh, in North-West Saudi Arabia, AlUla is a place of extraordinary natural and human heritage. The vast area, covering 22,561km², includes a lush oasis valley, towering sandstone mountains and ancient cultural heritage sites dating back thousands of years to when the Lihyan and Nabataean kingdoms reigned. The most well-known and recognised site in AlUla is Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 52-hectare ancient city, Hegra was the principal southern city of the Nabataean Kingdom and is comprised of 111 well-preserved tombs, many with elaborate facades cut out of the sandstone outcrops surrounding the walled urban settlement. Current research also suggests Hegra was the most southern outpost of the Roman Empire after the Roman's conquered the Nabataeans in 106 CE. In addition to Hegra, AlUla is also home to ancient Dadan, the capital of the Dadan and Lihyan Kingdoms and considered to be one of the most developed 1st millennium BCE cities of the Arabian Peninsula, and Jabal Ikmah, an open air library of hundreds of inscriptions and writings in many different languages, which has been recently listed on the UNESCO's memory of the World Register. Also AlUla Old Town Village, a labyrinth of more than 900 mudbrick homes developed from at least the 12th century, which has been selected as one of the World's Best Tourism Villages in 2022 by the UNWTO. Additionally, AlUla Old Railway and Hegra Fort, which are key sites in the story and conquests of Lawrence of Arabia.

Chanel's Chance Eau Splendide is an olfactive wonder

On a rainy night in April, at the base of Tokyo Tower, an audience awaits with bated breath. The transformation occurs in a matter of seconds and in what feels like a flip of a switch. Blink and there it is—a collective flood of light illuminating the entirety of the structure, all in a precise shade of purple. The same hue as Chanel's newly launched scent; a watershed moment in the maison's storied history.'The Chance Eau Splendide comes in this beautiful lavender. It is the colour of magic and lightness as well as mystery and nobility,' muses Olivier Polge, Chanel's perfumer. 'It is fruity and floral. It is joy for the spirit.' Chanel in-house perfumer, Olivier Polge, incorporated rose geranium to temper the sweetness of raspberry, delivering a sense of luminosity that feels vibrant and fresh upon the first sniff Courtesy of Chanel Like the other perfumes within the Chance family, Eau Splendide conveys a sense of effervescence that serves as the backbone of the range. A kind of exuberance, if you will, that contrasts delightfully with the refined, quiet nuance of Les Exclusifs de Chanel. And yet, it's clear to see that the Chance Eau Splendide sets itself apart even from the other variants within its collection. This distinctness can perhaps be attributed to its potent utilisation of raspberry accord—thus cementing its status as the maison's first fruit-led fragrance—but its unique campaign and messaging assert that there is more to it than a simple switch up of ingredients. Rather, it has to do with the scent's ambassador and muse, Belgian singer, Angèle. A roll of the dice To say that Chance Eau Splendide is an embodiment of Angèle's spirit is, by and large, accurate; a showcase of her essence through Polge's lens and, thus, an amalgamation of both their sensibilities. The 29-year-old musician and performer points this out during an interview with Vogue Singapore, gesticulating animatedly with her hands as she talks. 'I feel the most like myself when it's spring going into summer. The time when fruits and flowers bloom,' she explains. 'So, there was something about the inclusion of raspberry in the Chance Eau Splendide that felt reflective of my personality.' Indeed, it's safe to say that the pop supernova's influence on the fragrance is prevalent. Alongside raspberry are notes of rich, honeyed rose geranium, as well as smoky cedar—descriptors widely associated with Angèle's voice. The story behind Chance Eau Splendide, too, reads like her life story; a tale of perseverance and daring, aided by moments of sheer good fortune. Raspberry accord— chosen for its ability to grant users an immediate feeling of comfort and elegance—serves as the opening note of Chance Eau de Splendide Courtesy of Chanel 'At the beginning of my career about eight or nine years ago, I was taking all the opportunities that I could to put myself out there,' she laughs. 'I did openings for other artists, even when they were not artists who would do the same type of music as I did. I was uploading videos of me singing on social media, which was not something that was done back then.' Her dedication paid off. In a stroke of luck, Angèle's cover of 'Bruxelles' by Dutch singer, Dick Annegarn, began gaining traction in 2017. She opted to ride the momentum garnered from the track by releasing her first single shortly after in the second half of the year. La Loi de Murphy received millions of views on YouTube and the rest, as they say, is history. A chance of a lifetime As for this year, Angèle shows no signs of stagnation. She performed at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony last year and has since composed a song for the Chance Eau Splendide campaign.'The song is called 'A Little More'. I was in New York then, so I started writing the track in English. It's what came to mind, even though I usually sing in French. I wanted to keep one French sentence, though, and the one I went with was j'y crois encore ,' she explains, pausing to give a brilliant smile. 'It means, I still believe in it.' In what, exactly? Cryptic as it might sound, there is no doubt that this unknowable force is the lifeblood of Chanel's latest olfactive addition. Call it keen intuition paired with audacity or perhaps an unflinching belief in oneself to turn a gamble into a gambit. Whichever it is, there's no time like the present to exude it. A spritz of Chance Eau Splendide should do the trick. This story appears in Vogue Singapore's May 'Sonder' issue, available online.

Chanel launches Chance Street pop-up in Shoreditch

Chanel continues to put support behind its latest Chance variant, Eau Splendide, as well as its existing variants following the recent announcement of pop star Angèle as the new scent's face. Its latest initiative is the Chance Street pop-up in Shoreditch, London, which is open now until 5 May. The 'immersive and interactive' space allows visitors to 'Take a Chance' while celebrating the new variant and the Chance brand in general. The outside of the Chance space is painted in a bespoke, pop art-inspired mural highlighting the custom purple hue of the new fragrance. Visitors can try their luck at engaging and unexpected games, while discovering the various Chance scents. There's a fragrance discovery bar offering home a deeper dive into Chance itself, as well as into Chance Eau Fraîche, Chance Eau Tendre, Chance Eau Vive and, of course, Eau Splendide. And there's complimentary candy floss inspired by the new fragrance on offer too. The space replicates the hall of mirrors seen in the new Eau Splendide film, which is also the inspiration behind the mural seen at the pop-up. Much of what's available there is free but there are bookable paid-for services too, such as a £60, 75-minute personalised make-up look. Then there's a £60, 120-minutes evening event including a live DJ plus cocktails and canapés. The booking fee is redeemable against purchases at the pop-up and includes an elevated goodie bag.
