How Rolling Stones could be Glastonbury's Patchwork as they record 25th album

You wouldn't believe it if we told you this in the 1960s when the Rolling Stones formed, but the band are said to be recording their 25th album over five decades on. And they could possibly even be heading for Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage in the mysterious Patchwork slot in two weeks time. Hear me out. After their last No.1 album, Hackney Diamonds, dropped in 2023 with rave reviews and the success of their single Angry, members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are said to be working on the new record with current drummer Steve Jordan. 'Originally, the plan was for them to bring their huge US tour to the UK and Europe this summer, but promoters couldn't get the dates to work, a source told The Sun. This huge news comes as Glastonbury dropped its full line-up for this year, with a number of secret sets billed. While some of these mystery slots are earmarked with TBA, there is one primetime Pyramid Stage slot currently occupied by a non-existant band called Patchwork. Most eyes are on Pulp at the moment, with Glastonbury tipsters Secretglasto convinced the 90s rockers are Patchwork, just as the Foo Fighters were made-up name The ChurnUps in 2023. However, with talks of tour plans being scrapped due to dates not being able to work and a new album said to be on the way, why could it not be the Rolling Stones? Sir Rod Stewart has already confirmed Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood will be at the festival, making a surprise appearance in his Sunday afternoon set, so he's in situ. But here's the big clue: Rolling Stones is actually a Patchwork pattern, which perhaps seems less tenuous than Pulp member Candida Doyle recently saying she likes doing patchwork on tour. Also, what band in the history of the world has a more recognisable band patch, than the Rolling Stones' hot lips logo? Plus, the late Rolling Stones member Charlie Watts was known for his love of tailoring, having owned over 200 suits, so the Patchwork moniker could be a nod to him. It would make sense, as he was totally different in his tailored three-piece suits, against the other Stones' rock and roll attire. The first and only time the Rolling Stones have performed at Glastonbury came in 2013, when they headlined the Pyramid Stage with Watts, before his death in 2021. According to LitHub, Sunspel, the British clothing manufacturer, designed a T-shirt that was easier for Charlie to play in due to the insertion of an extra side panel, allowing for two seams down the side instead of one. He was said to be so happy with it that the entire band wore the design at the Glastonbury Festival in 2013. In case we didn't need any more clues, in the 1960s – when the Rolling Stones were formed – patchwork patterns saw a huge revival with the emergance of the hippy culture. All an innocent coincidence? We're not so convinced… Time will tell. Got a story? The Rolling Stones Chart A Top 10 Single, 60 Years Into The Band's Career

The Rolling Stones' 'Angry' returns to the U.K. top 10 on two charts, nearly matching its peak and ... More proving the band's sales power hasn't faded. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 19: Ronnie Wood, Steve Jordan, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards perform during The Rolling Stones surprise set in celebration of their new album 'Hackney Diamonds' at Racket NYC on October 19, 2023 in New York City. (Photo byfor RS) More than 60 years after The Rolling Stones started releasing music, the legendary rock band is still churning out hits. The group remains on the charts in the United Kingdom, where it first broke through all those decades ago. This week, it doesn't just find space on some rankings, the rockers claim a top 10 smash, showing that even after all this time, there's still plenty of life left in one of the most iconic rock outfits of all time. The Rolling Stones score a top 10 win in their home country yet again this frame, and the rock outfit does so in more than one place. The group's single 'Angry' is back inside the highest tier on two U.K.-based rankings, both of which focus exclusively on sales. This week, 'Angry' leaps from No. 15 to No. 5 on the Official Physical Singles chart. That cut also rockets from No. 13 to the same position on the Official Vinyl Singles ranking. 'Angry' isn't unfamiliar with the upper reaches of either the Official Physical Singles or Official Vinyl Singles charts. In fact, the tune has previously conquered both tallies. While it's not at No. 1 this week, it's nearing that position again, and it could possibly reclaim the throne soon if sales remain steady – or even improve. Both of the lists reflect pure sales, though with slightly different focuses. The Official Physical Singles chart includes all forms of physical sales — CDs, vinyl, and cassettes — while the Official Vinyl Singles ranking only counts purchases made on vinyl formats. While 'Angry' ranks in the same spot on both charts at the moment – and it's reached the same peak position – its history on each isn't exactly identical. On the Official Vinyl Singles list, the track has now racked up 32 weeks. Its performance is even more impressive on the Official Physical Singles chart, where it has held on for 54 frames. At the moment, 'Angry' stands as The Rolling Stones' only hit single in the United Kingdom. The rock legends don't claim any other charting songs this week, but the band is present elsewhere. Over on the Official Albums Streaming chart, The Rolling Stones hold firm with the fan-favorite compilation Forty Licks. The decades-spanning collection moves up four spaces, climbing from No. 82 to No. 78 on the streaming-only tally. 'Angry' was released in September 2023 as the lead single from Hackney Diamonds, The Rolling Stones' first album of brand new material in nearly two decades. The track marked a thrilling comeback for the band and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song, while the full-length won Best Rock Album.

The Rolling Stones Send Multiple Hits Back To The Charts — And The Band Is Not Alone

The Rolling Stones are almost always present in some capacity on the music charts in the United Kingdom, whether it's with a greatest hits collection that refuses to disappear or a recent album that continues racking up streams. This week, something a bit more special is happening. The group brings not one, but two tracks back to different rankings. Both tunes return, as fans in the band's home country continue to buy and stream some recent releases by the legends. Between the two tracks that resurface, "Angry" is the more successful this frame. The tune, which launched the Hackney Diamonds era in late 2023, returns to the Official Vinyl Singles chart at No. 13. That's a lofty placement for a cut that's been available for more than a year. "Angry" also bounces on the Official Physical Singles chart, lifting from No. 53 to No. 15. That's a significant jump – one of the most impressive on the list this time around – and it's one that seems to be driven primarily by fans picking up the single on wax. While "Angry" may be the better-performing of the two this time around, the return of "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" is also notable. The collaboration with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder returns to the Official Physical Singles chart at No. 39, becoming a top 40 smash once more. The superstar collaboration hits 52 weeks, or a full year, on the Official Physical Singles ranking. "Angry" has already conquered both of the charts it's currently appearing on. The single has previously ruled the Official Vinyl Singles and the Official Physical Singles rankings. "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" came close to joining it, but the superstar collaboration stalled at No. 2. That peak left all three musicians — the Rolling Stones, Gaga, and Wonder — just shy of claiming a shared bestseller. As the Rolling Stones enjoy a comeback on the singles lists, one of the group's albums is also back on the charts. Forty Licks, a career-spanning compilation that many fans consider an essential collection, returns to the Official Albums chart at No. 100. That's the last possible spot on the ranking of the most-consumed full-lengths in the U.K. While Forty Licks is only barely holding on to its spot on the main albums list, it's doing slightly better on another tally. The same project is steady at No. 82 on the Official Albums Streaming chart. That placement suggests that the full-length's continued performance isn't just from purchases — it's being spun regularly on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music as a wide array of listeners return to some of the band's most familiar tunes.
