Sex racket at spa in Vyttila busted, two held
KOCHI: The police on Thursday raided an ayurvedic massage centre in Vyttila that was allegedly being used to run a sex racket and arrested two persons. Rajesh M, 48, of Alappuzha and Aneesh, 50, were nabbed in the raid at Punarjani Ayurvedic Spa, which was operating from the ground and first floors of a rented building on Bund Road in Thykoodam. A case was also registered against three others — Ajay P S, 27, of Pindimana in Kothamangalam; Abymon N Ravi, 38, of Keerithode in Idukki, and Bineesh M G, 45, of Kuttampuzha in Kothamangalam — who managed to escape. The raid was carried out following a tip-off. Police officials said 10 women were found staying on the premises. 'The accused had been operating the spa for over six months. We rescued the women. Some of them revealed they were lured with offers of legitimate employment at an ayurveda centre but were later coerced into immoral activities,' an officer said. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Police start evidence collection in marriage fraud case
Thiruvananthapuram: Aryanad police, probing the marriage fraud case, on Thursday took accused Reshma, 30, to Parandodu for evidence collection. From there, the probe team went to Mahila Mandiram in Kollam, where she lived for over one year in 2023. In the coming days, she will be taken to CMS College, Kottayam, and Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, where she claimed to have completed her graduation and post-graduation, for evidence collection. She will also be taken to places from where she reportedly married multiple men, police said. The team will also take Reshma to the house of a Kollam native with whom she lived for more than two years. Kanjiramattom native Reshma was arrested by Aryanad police on May 6, two hours before her marriage to Aneesh C, 35, a Parandodu ward member. Aneesh had spotted her wedding card with another person's name and some certificates in her bag. During a preliminary probe, police found that she was married multiple times and also has a daughter. ED bribery case: Kerala HC tells prosecution to produce case diary
Kochi: High court on Wednesday orally directed the prosecution to produce the case diary in the pre-arrest bail plea filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) assistant director Shekhar Kumar, who is facing a vigilance case for allegedly demanding a Rs 2 crore bribe from a Kollam-based cashew businessman to derail an ED investigation. During hearing before the bench of Justice A Badharudeen, the public prosecutor sought additional time to obtain instructions from the state govt regarding the matter. Granting the request, HC adjourned the hearing to June 17 and extended the interim order restraining Kumar's arrest until then. The case originates from a complaint filed by cashew trader Aneesh Babu, who alleged that ED officials demanded a bribe to halt an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The PMLA proceedings were initiated following a police case registered against Aneesh for allegedly cheating local traders by taking advance payments for imported cashew nuts and failing to deliver the goods. In his complaint, Aneesh alleged that two middlemen, Wilson Varghese and Mukesh Kumar, approached him on behalf of the ED officer and demanded Rs 2 crore to stop the ED probe. This ritual, known as 'Nahanam', is a significant part of Hindu wedding traditions in Kerala, symbolising purification before marriage. The groom, Aneesh and Reshma had connected through a matrimonial site and, after extensive conversations, had set a wedding date. However, on the day of the wedding, Reshma refused to partake in the Nahanam ritual and insisted on going directly to a beauty parlour. This refusal raised suspicions, leading to a search of her belongings, which revealed documents of her previous marriages. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Reshma, a resident of Udayamperoor in Ernakulam, had been involved in a decade-long scam, marrying over a dozen men, and absconding with jewellery and other valuables each time. Reshma's pattern involved meeting men through matrimonial sites, weaving convincing tales, and then disappearing post-marriage with their possessions. The police, informed by Aneesh, confirmed that she had a two-year-old child. In the latest case, Reshma introduced a woman as her mother. The groom, Aneesh, had posted a marriage advertisement in a matrimony group. Reshma met Aneesh and claimed she was adopted by her foster mother, who was not interested in her marriage. Aneesh believed her story and agreed to marry her. A day before the wedding, Aneesh arranged for Reshma to stay at his friend's house, who was a member of another village panchayat. On the wedding day, Reshma refused to bathe and said she would go straight to the beauty parlour. This made Aneesh's friend suspicious of her. The wedding and banquet preparations were all in place, but a search of Reshma's bag uncovered documents related to her previous marriages. Acting on a complaint by Aneesh, a team led by Kattakada DySP N. Shibu, SHO V.S. Ajeesh, and SI Venu made a dramatic entry into the marriage hall and arrested Reshma. During interrogation, Reshma confessed that she had married another man just 45 days ago and was planning to marry yet another man from Thiruvananthapuram next month. Despite her claims of seeking true love, police suspect the list of her marriages may be more extensive, though victims are reluctant to come forward due to embarrassment. Reshma's history of deception began in 2014 when she eloped with a man from Ernakulam during her degree studies, living with him until 2017. 1 2 3 T'puram: A few days after a 30-year-old woman from Ernakulam was arrested in the state capital for attempting to get married for the 14th time, concealing her past record, Aryanad police have set up a team to probe her activities over the past couple of years. Kanjiramattom native Reshma Chandrasekharan, mother of a two-year-old, was arrested last week just two hours before she was about to marry Aneesh C, 35, a panchayat ward member representing Parandodu in the capital district. She reportedly had planned to marry another person next month. "We will move a custody application before the court to interrogate her and to confirm how many people she had married. We will have to hear about her past from herself. It must then be verified with the people associated with her," said a police officer. The probe team will also focus on her motive behind marrying several men. As per preliminary findings, Reshma was excellent in her studies and did her graduation at Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University. She later moved to CMS College, Kottayam, for post-graduation in Sanskrit and planned to do a PhD as well. Her first marriage was during her studies in 2014 to an Ernakulam native. In 2022, she became pregnant in a relationship with a Valakom-based man. In the meantime, she married people including from Kollam, Thodupuzha, Angamaly and Vaikom. Reshma's mother is reportedly staying with the Valakom-based man. He was unaware of Reshma's marriage frauds. Reshma contacted Aneesh using a number given on a matrimonial website, cooked up stories that she was adopted and convinced him, winning his sympathy. She also told him that her mother was against her marriage. It was Aneesh who proposed to marry her legally without her mother's consent. However, two hours ahead of the marriage, Aneesh found a wedding card of her marriage with another man from her bag and several certificates. He sensed foul play and alerted police. Aneesh lost Rs 7.5 lakh which he spent on marriage preparations, but said he was happy that he realised she was a cheat at least at the last moment.
