Max Spain Originals Chief On HBO Max Name Change: 'We Cannot Lose The Value Of HBO'
Max's Director for Local Original Productions in Spain has vowed the move back to the HBO Max moniker 'doesn't change the creative focus.' Instead, he predicted it would amplify the quality on the streamer. 'Many of you are asking what has happened,' Jose Maria Caro said at Conecta Fiction in Spain today about the decision, which was announced in the U.S. last month. 'What does it change mean? Well, we cannot lose the value of HBO because it means many things to many people. It contributes a lot of value.' The rebrand is taking place this summer, and Caro said the move was a significant one. 'What's in a name? It really matters to our editorial line,' he said, as he pledged it 'doesn't change the creative focus.' Original series Max made its first original series commission in Spain in 2023 with When Nobody Sees Us, a thriller led by two policewomen trying to solve a series of crimes in the Andalusian town of Morón de la Frontera. It launched on March 7, with Maribel Verdu and Mariela Garriga starring. Caro pointed to the series as an example of the 'ambitious' original series he was looking for, along with Furia, a drama currently shooting that stars Candela Peña, Carmen Machi, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza and Pilar Castro as five women facing extreme situations. Caro took on his post in January after Alberto Carullo, then VP of Productions for Italy and Iberia at Max, left WBD to join Mediaset. Caro had been with Warners since April 2024. He addressed a packed room today during a Spanish commissioners session that also included reps from Atresmedia, Amazon MGM Studios and Movistar Plus+. Caro was brought into the role as WBD at a point as the streamer plans to ramp up its originals slate in Spain, where the likes of Netflix and Prime Video have also found continued success with original series and films. Today, he touted the value of staying close to subscriber base. 'If we are going to represent the audience, local production is very important for us,' said Caro. Conecta Fiction is taking place in Cuenca, near Madrid, this week. Michelle Keegan defended by fans over update days after Mark Wright apology
The Netflix and soap actress has shared a number of snaps to her Instagram, and fans were quick to defend the new mum Michelle Keegan has been flooded with messages from fans following her latest summer reveal. It comes as the actress is busy soaking up life as a new mum, having recently welcomed her first child with her husband, Mark Wright. The pair, who shared the joyous news of their daughter's arrival on March 12, have just posted an update as they take their newborn, Palma Elizabeth Wright, on her family holiday. Earlier in April, Michelle and Mark treated their Instagram followers to several sun-filled photos. Michelle then revisited her account to display her stunning outfits for the getaway, where they resided at the luxurious SO/ Sotogrande Spa and Golf Resort Hotel nestled in Spain's Andalusian countryside. Michelle has now uploaded a new set of snaps apparently from her Spanish getaway. The actress dazzled in a brown cut-out bathing suit, complemented with an oversized straw hat, matching bag, and a flowing white sarong. Having been spotted earlier participating in some padel and making the most of the weather as reports Manchester Evening News, Michelle captioned her Instagram: "It's an @orfilabee Summer," signaling fans to snag the chic ensemble from her own label, which she co-founded. Support poured in for Michelle Keegan as fans rallied to her defence amid a barrage of comments. One person enthused: "This collection is STUNNING @michkeegan." Another fan was equally complimentary, remarking: "Absolutely beautiful beyond words, and what a stunning range @michkeegan." Someone else stated, pointing out their admiration: "Insane collection, you look incredible." One fan joined in, saying: "You look amazing Michelle, I love the new swimwear." Someone else encouraged: "You look amazing as always enjoy your time with your gorgeous baby girl and ignore all the haters and negativity." Another supportive fan commented: "Michelle looks amazing. So unfair on these comments . It takes time to feel okay mentally regardless of physical looks. So what if she has snapped back, she may not feel that way . She is not promating 'snap back after having a baby ' she is making a living." One questioned the criticism, adding: "So if she hadn't 'snapped back' she'd be ok to post? But because she has she's being told she shouldn't post? . Unreal. You look amazing." The comments came as Mark expressed regret over a social post that was scheduled concerning flights, which some found insensitive by coinciding with the tragic Air India disaster. The horror incident involved a Gatwick-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner, ferrying 242 people, including 53 from the UK, which fatally plummeted soon after departing Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat. Mark faced a storm of criticism after sharing a photo on social media, where he was pictured alongside his wife Michelle Keegan and their daughter Palma in front of a private jet, complaining over the lack of legroom on commercial flights. Following a wave of backlash triggered by his upload, Mark took to Instagram with a public apology: "I apologise for a post I just put up on my page after today's heartbreaking events." Realising the insensitivity, he swiftly removed the controversial post and elaborated in his apology that it had been pre-scheduled before news of the tragedy broke. Explaining the sequence of events leading to the mishap, Mark stated: "I have posts from a holiday that are on the scheduled setting, which go out on future days I have set them for which was done last week." He continued: "It's a horrendous coincidence that today's post was on such a devastating day. Once I logged in to my Instagram and realised the post had gone out, I immediately deleted." Reflecting sincere remorse, Mark summed up: "My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected from today. I'm sorry for this mistake and any offence caused."

Man arrested over shooting of Scots in Spanish bar
A man suspected of murdering two senior figures from a Scottish organised crime group in a Spanish bar has been arrested. The BBC understands Michael Riley was taken into custody in Liverpool by Merseyside Police under an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities. Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, were shot dead at Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola in the Costa Del Sol on 31 May. Both men were connected to the Lyons family, a major organised crime group based in the west of Scotland. The two men had been watching the Champions League final with friends when they were targeted at the bar on the Andalusian town's beachfront. Two Scots shot dead in Spain had criminal gang links No suggestion Spain shooting linked to gang feud - police Holidaymakers 'frightened' in surreal gang shooting aftermath According to medical reports, Eddie Lyons Jnr died after being hit by a single bullet outside the bar in front of friends and customers. CCTV also showed the gunman pursuing Monaghan inside the pub and firing more shots, leaving him fatally injured. Scottish detectives have been helping the Spanish police with their investigation, providing information on the men's backgrounds. In the wake of the killings, Police Scotland issued a statement saying there was no intelligence to suggest the deaths were linked to an ongoing gangland feud in the east and west of Scotland's central belt. More than 40 people have been arrested following a series of violent incidents, including alleged attempted murders and firebombings. The force also said there was nothing to suggest that the shooting was planned in Scotland. The Lyons clan have been locked in a long-running feud with the rival Daniels family. Monaghan was previously linked to the high-profile killing of feared Glasgow gangland figure Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll, an enforcer for the Daniels. He was accused of the murder in a Glasgow supermarket car park in 2010, but was later acquitted due to a lack of evidence. Monaghan was himself later shot in the shoulder as he dropped his daughter off at school in Glasgow in 2017. He is believed to have moved to Spain a short time later. Lyons Jnr was also shot and wounded in an attack in 2006, which was believed to have been carried out by Carroll. The two groups have traded a number of violent attacks for about 20 years.
