'I congratulate Leleti Khumalo and Anant Singh for flying our flag and for spotlighting one of our nation's socio-economic challenges,' reads the post. On my travels to and from the G7 Leaders' Summit in Canada, I had the good and proud fortune of bumping into our veteran star performer Leleti Khumalo at OR Tambo International Airport. Accepting the award, Khumalo thanked the festival, the Videovision team and director Darrell Roodt 'who came up with this amazing project.' She continued: 'And I thank Anant for always believing in me and for always having faith in me. It is essentially a homage to the silent movie and it represents homeless people all around the world, and the music of Philip Glass and Peter Gabriel give it that special magic. 'We are delighted to have this little South African film about homeless people win this special prize. I'd like to acknowledge the creation of these awards by Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, acknowledge your Highness Prince Albert, for continuing to celebrate the creative communities, which is so important. It's my third year here at the Festival, and I am delighted to take home this Golden Nymph with Leleti.'

In an online interview, Khunou said the documentary took about six years to make. "In the process I was winning a lot of awards too for development, and I worried that the film wouldn't live up to the hype in the making of it, so it was very validating that I delivered what I had promised in those years when it won as a complete project at ABFF,' she said. "Black Women and Sex" will also showcase at the National Arts Festival's Fringe Programme later this month.

Anant Singh complains to ANC about eThekwini's 'sabotage' of film studios
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has vowed to act against eThekwini municipality officials who might be implicated in an apparent sabotage of world-renowned film producer Anant Singh's R7.5bn film studios. Singh acquired the old Natal Command defence force building along the North Beach in 2022 to make an investment of R7.5bn for the development of film and television studios and related sectors in Durban. However, the project has been stalled because the city has not yet installed water and electricity in the building, which Singh had renovated. Instead the city revalued the same property to R1bn, which Singh said was way higher than when he bought the property for R71m in 2022. Singh said this meant he would need to pay higher rates yet the building was unusable because there was no water or electricity. Speaking at the ANC engagement meeting with businesses in Durban on Tuesday, Singh told the ANC leaders that after fighting for more than 20 years to acquire the property, which he eventually received three years ago, he did not understand why eThekwini officials were sabotaging such a huge investment that would create jobs in the city. Singh said he was forced to buy a generator because the city has refused to install electricity, adding that the city has recently demanded more than R400,000 just to install an electricity meter. 'I have already lost two TV shows worth R200m which had to be recorded in Johannesburg because my studios are not yet complete because of eThekwini's inept attitude,' he said. ANC provincial task team convener Jeff Radebe expressed shock that Singh's project had not taken off, promising that the ANC would launch an investigation to find out what was happening. 'We will definitely act against the people in the city that would be found responsible for Singh's project delay,' said Radebe. eThekwini municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said: 'Since the allegations are related to a contractual matter regarding the installation of bulk infrastructure services (water and electricity), legal advice will have to be sought before responding.' Sisilana said a dispute regarding the municipal valuation of the property has been lodged by the property owner. 'However, as this matter is subject to a formal dispute resolution process in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act, the municipality is not able to comment further at this stage. 'The matter will be adjudicated in accordance with the applicable legal framework,' said Sisilana. She said the municipal leadership has an open-door policy and continues to engage various stakeholders including business leaders on pertinent matters for the benefit of the city and its residents. RJD MLA shifted to Bhagalpur jail
Patna: RJD MLA Ritlal Yadav was transferred from Patna's Beur jail to Bhagalpur Camp Jail on Thursday and placed in the T-cell earlier occupied by former MLA Anant Singh. During the transfer, jail authorities confiscated approximately 1.5kg of gold jewellery worn by Yadav. Until his relocation, Yadav had been sharing a ward in Beur jail with Anant Singh. Several of Yadav's associates, facing charges in various criminal cases, are also currently incarcerated in Beur jail. The transfer follows a case in which the Danapur legislator is accused of demanding Rs 50 lakh in extortion from a builder. Yadav surrendered before the Danapur court on April 17 and was sent to Beur jail under 14-day judicial custody. An FIR had been lodged at Khagaul police station in connection with the allegations. According to police sources, Yadav was continuously meeting with his associates inside the jail, which came to the attention of the Patna police. The police feared that he might orchestrate a major criminal act through his associates while being in jail. Based on intelligence inputs from Beur jail, the Patna district administration compiled a report recommending the severing of Yadav's communication with his network. The report was submitted to the prison department, which subsequently approved the transfer to Bhagalpur jail and issued the necessary orders. While the official reason cited by jail authorities was "administrative grounds", police sources said the move was a preventive step aimed at curbing possible criminal activities planned from within the jail.
