CUB reaches out to small traders in Tier III, IV towns

City Union Bank (CUB), in association with City Credit, launched a new programme to reach out to the economically weaker sections of the society, such as small traders, street vendors, mini kiosks and others, especially located in Tier III and IV towns. Named as 'Micro LAP' (Micro Loan Against Property), the programme was formally launched here on Wednesday by the bank's executive director Vijay Anandh. Expressing delight at the product's maiden launch in Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Anandh said that it would cover small traders and less salaried people not under the Income Tax bracket. Ravi Kondeti, chief executive officer of City Credit, which serves as the outreach arm taking care of the promotion, marketing, clearance and collection activities, explained the need to create awareness among the prospective customers living in remote villages and towns not covered by the banking sector. 'This comes under priority sector lending, as it includes mortgage loans and home loans in the ₹10-₹50 lakh segment,' he added.

A woman suffered burns in a lightning strike in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district, and four persons were injured after a tree branch fell on a car they were travelling in, in Dakshina Kannada district, as heavy rains continue to pound the two districts on Sunday. In the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Sunday, the Dakshina Kannada district recorded an average of 74.8 mm of rainfall, while the Udupi district recorded 76.1 mm. As the southwest monsoon is advancing to cover more parts of Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, a red alert has been issued in light of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains with sustained winds until May 29 in a few places of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts. In light of the forecast, In-charge Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner K. Anandh has requisitioned the services of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). In a virtual meeting to assess damage due to heavy rains on Sunday, Dr. Anandh said one team of NDRF will be posted in Puttur. A centre will be placed in Mangaluru and Kukke Subrahmanya to teach SDRF. Dr. Anandh directed all incident commanders appointed to different places to be on alert and ensure no loss of lives during the period. An official release from the Udupi district administration said a total of 20 houses suffered partial damage in Kundapura, Byndoor, Karkala, Kapu, and Udupi taluks.

Fear of failure is a part of the journey in one's life. It is necessary to push oneself daily and do the daily routine preparation in a disciplined manner to make a mark in the all-India civil services examination, said Chief Executive Officer of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat K. Anandh in Mangaluru on Saturday. Speaking on the civil services' examination at 'The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2025' session, Dr. Anandh said it is strange that only a few from Dakshina Kannada, which is known for its highy literacy rate, enter the all-India civil services. The period of the civil services examination is one year, and aspirants should have a lot of patience during this period. Aspirants should not be swayed away by what others comment. There will be helpless times, which may let the aspirants down. 'Stick to the daily routine of preparation. Yes, it will be difficult. But do the routine of preparation in a disciplined manner, which will help you crack the civil services examination,' he said. Aspirants can start writing the examination after the age of 21, and they can continue to do so till they are 32. While those from the general category have six attempts, no such specification is prescribed for those from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The general studies paper has questions from core subjects, namely history, economics, politics, geography, and environment. Aspirants can choose any one of 25 subjects as an optional subject. Dr. Anandh said the optional subject should be the one in which one should be proficient and capable of submitting a thesis. Dean of the Department of Paediatric Surgery, K.S.
