Warning over cheap Turkey ops CUT-PRICE 'too good to be true' cosmetic ops in Turkey are dangerous and need regulating, warned the UK's Health Secretary. Wes Streeting urged people to research the risks and think twice before flying abroad to get work done. He wants to work with governments of other countries to improve safety. Turkey is top destination for popular surgeries including boob jobs, tummy tucks, butt and facelifts, as it is cheaper. Seven in ten foreign cosmetic ops on Brit patients are done there. But horror stories are common and several UK women have died in recent years from complications. There are particular concerns about the safety of Brazilian butt lifts — known as the most dangerous procedure but growing in popularity. Research from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons found half of those who go abroad for cosmetic ops come to regret it. Mr Streeting said: 'We need to take very seriously medical negligence and malpractice overseas. If the offer looks too good to be true, I suspect it's too good to be true. 'Think very carefully before flying overseas and paying a rock-bottom price, because you may end up paying the consequences for years. The injuries can be life-changing.'

Influencer, 31, partied with doctor night before cosmetic surgery, dies after procedure

An influencer who died after a botched cosmetic surgery in Turkey had partied with her doctor the night before the procedure. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini died hours after she received a breast augmentation, liposuction, and a nose job on Sunday. The 31-year-old singer and influencer had travelled from Mozambique to Istanbul with her husband on Friday for the surgeries. Her husband, artist Elgar Miles, told Brazilian news outlet O Tempo that she was receiving the procedures free of charge in return for promoting the hospital. 'She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was a dream of hers,' Miles said. Ana and her husband reportedly had a boozy night out with the surgeon on Saturday - just a day before she underwent the fatal procedures. Her husband said that the procedures were originally scheduled for Wednesday. They enquired whether the date could be changed to allow an extra day for recovery. 'Due to scheduling issues, the surgeon decided to bring it forward to Sunday. We went to the clinic on Sunday just to see the place, but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure without Ana being prepared,' said Miles. Despite having partied the night before, the surgeon convinced Ana to go ahead with the cosmetic surgeries. 'The doctor assured me that there were no problems and that everything would be fine,' Miles told news outlet G1. Ana underwent a breast augmentation, fat removal, and a nose job at the Tusa Hospital. She was out of the operating room by 11 pm on Sunday. However, after coming out of the surgery, her heart began to slow down. A post shared by DeHermes (@elgarmiles) "They told me to go to the room, the assistants were acting strangely. I waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive her," said her husband. 'I went down to the ground floor and a doctor said that her heart was beating slowly, another said that she was already dead.' Tusa Hospital, in a statement reported by Turkiye Today, said that the patient had signed all necessary medical consent forms. She experienced 'an unexpected complication' during the recovery phase which led to ventricular fibrillation. Ana then suffered a cardiac arrest and died. 'Despite all efforts by our expert anesthesiology team, the patient could not be resuscitated,' the statement read.

School collaborates to produce artwork

Musselburgh School pupils and artist Ana Teofilo celebrate the unveiling of the school's collective artwork at an assembly yesterday. PHOTO: GERARD O'BRIEN The talents of the entire Musselburgh School have been combined for a new artwork. The piece, which is yet to be named, will be on display in the school assembly hall. It was completed in collaboration with artist Ana Teofilo, who helped bring all the different themes together. She said it took about a week to put together, after a one-day brainstorming session with pupils. "It's amazing just knowing that all the kids took part in it, and we were able to just put it in one big piece where they can celebrate it and feel proud." Each pupil drew something that was somehow inspired by Samoan Language Week. "There were a lot of connections through weaving. There were Samoan flags. Some drew cats because they have a personal, you know, connection to little cats. There were also a lot of florals." Seeing the pupils develop their work was also inspiring, she said. "So we had all the senior classes first, and then we had the juniors come through. So you could see the tightness of their drawings to the looseness of the younger ones, which is really cool." She had not put together a collaborative artwork before. "This would be my first piece where we've all collaborated in one piece. "Usually, I would do workshops where each individual creates a piece, and we would put it together. So, this was something special in one single piece. "I'd absolutely love to do something like this again if there's another opportunity for it." Principal Robin Taylor said they were delighted to invite Ms Teofilo to the school as part of their recognition of Samoa Language Week. "Ana had beautifully prepared the piece for collaboration with all of the students who were present on the day. "Each student created their own design, around a significance to them, to build up the background — Ana then took the piece and completed the design, which replicates our new school logo with a Pasifika flavour. "Our home and school association raised funds to enable Ana to spend time with us. We are extremely proud of this new and beautiful piece of work, which will be displayed in the school hall so all our school ākonga, whānau and manuhiri can view it."

TV star stuns fans with pregnancy news days after going public with girlfriend

Well known British explorer Levison Wood posted about his relationship with a new partner just four days ago on Instagram, and has now revealed they are expecting Adventurer and TV star Levison Wood has announced he's expecting his first child just days after going public with his new relationship. The soldier, 43, who is best known for his daring treks across some of the world 's most dangerous terrains, revealed the exciting news on Instagram alongside a sweet tribute to his girlfriend Ana. Levison posted a photo of them together with big grins on their faces, writing: "Happy birthday to this wonderful human being! (And yep we're having a baby, not just a big lunch)." ‌ The announcement comes just four days after Levison went Instagram official with Ana. He shared a selection of cute snaps showing them exploring the great outdoors together, writing: "Over the years I've met many people on the road, but every now and then, someone comes along who doesn't just travel with you, but changes the pace of the journey entirely. This is Ana. ‌ "We've been exploring a shared path together lately, one filled with plenty of adventures, challenges and commitment. An exciting new chapter awaits." Fans were quick to flood the comments section with congratulations for the new chapter of parenthood Levison is about to experience, with one exclaiming: "Massive congratulations to you both! I wish you a lifetime of happiness and beautiful new adventures as a trio!" Another added: "Looks like you'll both be amazing parents." Levison became a household name in 2015 after his Channel 4 series Walking the Nile. He has made a career out of tackling some of the toughest terrains on the planet, including the length of the Himalayas and some difficult treks in South America. ‌ While doing that he also earned himself British heartthrob status, which he admitted baffled him in an interview with Holly Willoughby on This Morning in 2016. He told her: "It's bizarre, isn't it? Who'd have thought a programme about walking would be deemed to have that? It can be quite overwhelming at times… but very flattering." Levison also talked to The Sun about his love life - or lack of it - as recently as 2023, saying: "I'd love to have a family one day, but I don't think there is any need to follow convention and settle down at all. ‌ "Sod that, I'm more up for continuing the adventures, no matter what. But I try to avoid talking about finding someone and love, as the last time I did, I ended up with a stalker." Despite his rugged exterior, Levison has had more than his fair share of close calls. During one expedition in the Himalayas, a local taxi he was travelling in went off a cliff after its brakes failed, plunging 150 metres into a jungle ravine. He suffered a badly broken arm and had to have metal plates inserted, but despite the painful operation he returned to complete the trek just five weeks later. And it's not just broken bones he has had to contend with. During his Walking the Nile journey, Levison ended up having to carry on with the trip after the sudden death of his companion, American journalist Matthew Power, who collapsed from heat exhaustion in Uganda.
