Can we all agree that the 2000s–2010s were the golden age of reality TV? The reality shows back then were just top-tier. And although I'm aware there are definitely problematic parts of kids growing up on TV, I particularly loved watching them in my favourite reality shows. Recently, I've been wondering what my favourite child reality stars from that era have been up to now. And as it turns out, something in my brain can't comprehend that they've aged alongside me — so seeing these "then and now" comparisons are making me spiral HARD. I'd prepare to feel old if I were you... Simon Cowell stops performance of 13-year-old 'America's Got Talent' singer called 'young Justin Bieber' by judges
Chase Varnes, a 13-year-old musician from Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia, had a scary encounter with judge Simon Cowell Tuesday on America's Got Talent. Varnes had just started singing and playing guitar when Cowell, the man who helped Nicole Scherzinger assemble One Direction on the U.K. version of The X Factor in 2010, stopped him abruptly. "I hate to do this," said Cowell, who has, in fact, stopped acts before. "I didn't love the song; however, I like you. Have you got another song?" Varnes broke into Ed Sheeran's "Life Goes On," and it was a hit with audiences and most of the judges. "You know, you remind me of a young Justin Bieber," judge Howie Mandel told Varnes, who lit up at the compliment. Like his fellow Canadian, Varnes has put in his time busking. Judge Sofia Vergara was also complimentary. "I know it's nerve-racking to be on this stage, but I thought it was better the second song," Vergara said. "Simon always knows how to stop it and make it better. I think the girls are gonna go crazy for you." The third judge, Mel B, was more cautious. "You were great," the former Spice Girl said. "You were a diamond in the rough with so much potential. But I can see your nervousness. You're not quite there yet for me." Then Mandel started the voting by giving him a "yes." While Vergara did the same, Mel B held out. "I think, give yourself another year, then come back when you're more confident,' she said. "I have to say no, I'm sorry." But Cowell saved the clear audience favorite, who only needed one more ally on the panel."Sometimes we have on people your age, and I'm like, 'Okay, I'll be sort of nicer because you're young," Cowell began. "You, I actually do believe, that you have something.... You've got everything going for you. The audience loved you, which is why you're gonna get three yeses." Later, the show's stage was overtaken with cats — or at least people dressed like them. A Baltimore artist who goes by Moshow and is known as "The Cat Rapper" rocked a hat that gave him cat ears and lyrics ("Meow, meow, meow") that did not make the judges purr. At Vergara gave him a "yes" vote, she was the only one. Cowell did, however, note that "the kids are gonna love that song." The very next act to walk onto the stage was also feline-oriented. And none of the members, who were all dressed as cats, would speak. It was too much for Mel B, who asked, "Is this some kind of joke?" But it was real. The group of a dozen or so people, called Loco Pop Familia, did a choreographed routine that left even Mel B impressed, just not enough to win her support. "You all can really dance," she said, "But. You're so annoying! The whole thing is annoying. The song is annoying. The way that you dressed as cats is not my thing." Cowell disagreed wholeheartedly and called the act "genius." He also gave them the third vote they needed to move forward. Upon hearing the good news, the contestants dropped to the floor and crawled off the stage. Heidi Klum shares rare photo, videos with son Johan as he graduates high school: ‘My heart is full of joy'
Heidi Klum is a proud mama. The supermodel celebrated her 18-year-old son Johan's high school graduation on Wednesday, posting footage of him getting his diploma and her kissing him on the cheek on Instagram. 'Cheering you on today and every day CONGRATULATIONS JOHAN my heart is full of joy and pride ,' she captioned the sweet post. In a photo she shared, Heidi, 52, smiled alongside Johan and her eldest son, 19-year-old Henry. She shares Johan and Henry as well as daughters Leni, 21, and Lou, 15, with her ex-husband Seal. Heidi and Seal divorced in 2014. She's been married to Tokio Hotel singer Tom Kaulitz since February 2019. While Johan has remained largely private, Leni and Henry have chosen to follow in Klum's footsteps and become models. Heidi did gush about Johan's artistic abilities back in 2013, telling Parents magazine that his love for painting monsters inspired her Truly Scrumptious children's clothing collection. In October, the 'America's Got Talent' judge revealed that Johan was considering attending Parsons School of Design in New York City after graduating. 'Johan is very much into the arts and making clothes,' she told People. 'So today we toured Parsons.' Meanwhile, Seal, 62, spoke to Page Six in February about Henry making his modeling debut at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week this year, and shared that what he wants to actually do is to pursue a music career. 'But that's difficult because it's kind of what I do, and I think there's a part of him that thinks that, you know, 'I just don't want to be kind of, you know, doing music because my dad does it,'' he said. Still, Seal insisted Henry was a talent in his own right. 'And I don't say that, as, you know, a biased father, which I am, of course, but he has a great voice,' he said. 'And I just really wish that he would have the confidence to do it.' As for Leni, the 'Kissed from a Rose' singer said modeling was also not what she ultimately wanted to do. 'She gets that modeling is a segue,' he noted. 'It's a stepping stone to getting what you want out of life. And it's not necessarily a profession.' Leni and Heidi recently posed in lingerie together for another Intimissimi ad despite receiving backlash the first time they did it in October, with some calling the mother-daughter duo 'weird' for posing in their underwear together. Heidi turned off her comments on her Instagram post announcing the second collaboration. But Leni hasn't been letting the criticism get to her. 'I always try to remember that no matter what you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it,' she told Glamour Germany about the backlash for their cover story published in March. 'You simply have no control over it and you can't focus too much on the negative.'
