Jeff Bezos-Lauren Sanchez wedding: I am ashamed, we will have to ....; says Venice Mayor as protesters target Amazon founder's wedding
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez first met in 2016 at an Amazon Studios party for Manchester by the Sea The upcoming wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in Venice has polarized the city, with some residents protesting the event while others, including city officials, embrace it. Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro expressed strong support for the couple, stating, 'I want Jeff Bezos to be welcomed with open arms in Venice. Protesting against those who bring visibility and wealth to our territory is, in my opinion, a disgrace.' Brugnaro, speaking to reporters on Friday, added, 'We will have to apologize to Bezos. I am ashamed of those who behave like this. I hope that Bezos comes anyway. Not all Venetians think like these protesters," he told protestors. At the Biennale of Architecture, a staple Venice event, sentiments aligned more with city officials. Görge Meyer, a visitor from Berlin, told CNN, 'It seems ridiculous that a city that lives off tourism like Venice wouldn't want an event like this, which will employ hundreds of people from waiters to water taxi drivers. All the guests and journalists will be staying at hotels, eating at restaurants and spending money.' Gillian Longworth McGuire, an American travel writer living in Venice, noted the city's historical allure for high-profile weddings, saying, 'Venice just doesn't have a clear idea of what it is supposed to be sometimes. Is it a magical place carved out of a lagoon, built by merchants and fishermen, or a bachelorette party and mega wedding venue? The ethos of this city was always that it was the crossroads of culture and the world.' Some locals bitter over Venice wedding However, not all residents are welcoming. The 'No Space for Bezos' collective hung a banner with an X over Bezos's name on a belltower overlooking the Venice lagoon, which was removed Thursday. The group declared on Facebook, 'He's not welcome, not in Venice, not anywhere!' highlighting local resentment toward the event. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now

‘Good Voice, Sense Of Humour': Pierce Brosnan Lists Traits Needed For Next James Bond
Last Updated: Pierce Brosnan, Bond from 1995-2002, stressed the next James Bond needs humour, courage, and boldness. He hopes the franchise's legacy will now be honoured. Pierce Brosnan has insisted that the next James Bond must have a 'sense of humour".The 71-year-old actor is one of many who have taken on the titular role of the 007 franchise over the years, but when it comes to just who should star next, he listed off all the elements that an actor would need to have in order to take on the part of the iconic spy. Asked about the requirements an actor needs to take on the part, he told MovieWeb, 'Good voice, good body, courage. Great courage. And a sense of humour, a passion for hard work and danger. And being bold. Gotta be bold, gotta be dangerous. And you have gotta know yourself." Earlier this year, Amazon Studios took control of the franchise from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and The Unholy Trinity star previously insisted that it is a 'given" that the new bosses of the film series must adhere to the tradition of casting a British star. Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, he added, 'In this world that is moving so fast now, at the speed of light, [the takeover] does come with a certain lament. I thought it was coming for some time I guess, but I think it was the right decision for Barbara and Michael. It takes great courage for them to let go. They will still have a say in matters. I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect." The Mamma Mia! star played the Bond from GoldenEye in 1995 until he bowed out of the franchise in 2002 with 'Die Another Day, and Daniel Craig took over for Casino Royale in 2006 before leaving after No Time To Die in 2021. Brosnan added, 'History has been passed on and I'm very proud to have been part of the history and the legacy of Bond and the movies that I made with Barbara and Michael. That we moved the needle, that we brought it back to life. It had been dormant [for] six years and GoldenEye was such a success that it continued and went from strength to strength…You know, everything changes, everything falls apart, and I wish them well."
