Mariah Carey explains why she doesn't believe in the concept of time

Mariah Carey has shed light on why she pays no attention to the concept of time, and destroyed our brains in the process. The All I Want For Christmas singer has made her feelings on getting older very clear over the years, and previously declared that she only celebrates her 'anniversaries'. Unpacking this further in a new interview with Capital FM ahead of her Summertime Ball performance over the weekend, the 56-year-old made her feelings very clear. When asked whether it was true that she doesn't 'acknowledge the passing of time', she conceded: 'That is true … I just don't believe in it.' Touching on if she means time zones, Mariah simply replied: 'No, no. just time. Let it go!' As the baffled interviewers attempted to get to the bottom of exactly what this meant, the mom-of-two clarified: 'I don't have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes.' She added that, if she was meeting someone at a specific time, she would 'have somebody call you and figure it out.' It truly is Mariah's world and we're all just living in it… However, it must be noted that the Fantasy musician does see 'time' at some points, as she annually reminds us that 'it's time' for winter to begin the very second the clock strikes midnight on November 1, ushering in her Christmas celebrations. This isn't the first time that the Grammy-winner has spoken publicly about looking at time differently, as she has been vocal about shunning traditional 'birthdays' in favor of 'anniversaries'. Speaking to Out Magazine in 2014, she opened up about her reasoning behind this, and why she stays 'eternally 12'. 'I don't count years but I definitely rebuke them … I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling,' she explained. 'As a kid I literally made this pact. More Trending 'There had been some sort of argument with my mom and the man she was dating at the time, and somehow I became a part of it – I was around 8 or 9 years old, and I said, 'I'm never going to forget how it feels to be a kid, and you can't be seen or heard.' 'It's as though your opinion doesn't mean anything, or your feelings are not real.' We hope we get an invite to Mariah's next 12th anniversary party. Got a story? Lorraine Kelly left baffled after very awkward Mariah Carey moment

Lorriane Kelly has revealed Mariah Carey has been one of the more 'difficult' A-listers she has come to face with as she reflected on her self-titled talk show Lorraine Kelly was left scratching her head after working with Mariah Carey. The telly star has fronted her self-titled ITV programme since 2010 having also appeared on the likes of Good Morning Britain, GMTV, Daybreak and This Morning. But while she's come face-to-face with some of the biggest names in entertainment, the 65-year-old has also had her fair share of awkward run-ins. And one encounter with music icon Mariah Carey will remain at the top of the list when it comes to odd experiences. ‌ But it wasn't because Mariah was "horrible," instead, Lorraine simply for the All I Want For Christmas hitmaker to be very confusing. Speaking at the Hay Festival of Literature and Arts, the broadcaster opened up to fans who had been eagerly waiting to grill her on her impressive career. ‌ She said: "The one that was difficult, not because she was horrible... but Mariah Carey was 'refreshed'. It's good we were [pre-recording] it because her first answer was 10 minutes long, and did not make any sense. But I always give people the benefit of the doubt." However, another interview with a major star left Lorraine utterly perplexed as the celebrity didn't arrive for the interview. Recalling the time she was scheduled to interview Lady Gaga, Lorraine told the crowd: "They kept saying 'she's getting in the car, she's getting in the car', and of course my crew have all been up since God knows when... They need to go home to bed! "She never turned up; I don't know what happened there." The comments come after the Mirror revealed that Lorraine is fighting to secure the future of her show. Sources claim that the Scottish star will have to "pull out all the stops" for it to survive. It was announced last week that the programme had been affected by the major shake-up at ITV. It will now air for 30 weeks of the year, rather than all year round. And the duration of the programme has been cut from an hour to just half an hour. A source said: "Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too. But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good." ‌ They went on to add: "She has been an icon of ITV but serious cuts need to be made and her show has been cut to just 30 minutes, which after ad breaks will be a very short chunk of time. She needs to show bosses it is worth keeping on air. You can expect her to be pulling hard to get big name celebrities on her show instead of GMB or This Morning." The star was made aware of the cuts in a private meeting with bosses and she will now work five days per week in order to give the programme the best chance of staying on screens. Staff at ITV were told last Tuesday that half of the 440 members of the production team would lose their jobs. Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes every day, eating into Lorraine's soon-to-be former airtime. This Morning, despite plunging viewing figures remains unaffected. But Loose Women has also had its on-air time slashed and will also air for just half an hour for 30 weeks of the year. Many on the show are said to be feeling anxious about their future, with some of the older members of the panel allegedly feeling they may be replaced by younger stars, including Frankie Bridge, GK Barry and Olivia Attwood.

TV soap story prompts 5,000 blood donations leaving girl's family 'gobsmacked'

An episode of Casualty that aired last year prompted 5,000 new blood donation registrations. All I Want For Christmas, which was broadcasted over the festive period in December, focused on the staff at Holby ED dealing with a shortage of vital bags of donated blood. The instalment had real-life stories interspersed throughout, with one of them focusing on a little girl called Beatrix. The youngster, who is four, spent more than a year in Newcastle's Freeman Hospital waiting for a new heart. She appeared in the special Christmas episode to shine a spotlight on the importance of donating blood. Along with thousands of new blood donations, the episode also resulted in 10,000 extra appointments being made to give blood. Beatrix's father Terry said the scale of the impact was 'staggering' and reiterated how vital blood donations are, pointing out that his daughter's life had been saved 'multiple times over' by them. Beatrix's family, who are from County Durham, filmed for the episode in September at their home and Durham Fire Station. Terry noted that young Beatrix was in her 'element' while filming and loved being cheeky with the crew. The NHS noted 1,200 appointments were booked within the hour after the instalment was broadcasted, and also stated 5,000 donations are needed everyday to meet the needs of hospitals and patients. When Terry learnt about the number of people who had signed up as a result of watching the episode, he was 'absolutely gobsmacked'. 'We owe a massive debt of gratitude to every single person that has given blood and continues to do so', Terry said. Beatrix had her heart transplant in 2022. She needed multiple blood transfusions during and in the run up to the operation. Star Barney Walsh, who plays nurse Cam in the show, reflected on the importance of blood donations in a chat with us back in December. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? He said: 'The importance of blood should not be underestimated, because it is the one thing that cannot be replaced and cannot be manufactured. It's either there or it's not. 'From the beginning of the episode, seeing Cam and the particular rigmarole that Cam has to do with the blood from the beginning – out of the fridge into the thing, the clock has to go on, it has to be downstairs by a certain time, has to be on the right shelf at the right time.
