Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine

Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine The MLB Draft Combine kicks off Tuesday at noon (EDT) in Phoenix, and Clemson will once again have a presence at the event. Per Baseball America, outfielder Cam Cannarella, standout transfer Ryan Wideman, and incoming signees Dax Kilby (SS) and Nick Frusco (LHP) are among the attendees. Cannarella and Kilby have both drawn Day 1 draft projections, with currently projecting Cannarella to go No. 38 overall to the Mets. Cannarella is the highest-ranked among the four, coming in at No. 39 on prospect list. Kilby follows at No. 79, Wideman at 155, and Frusco is currently unranked. Wideman, a Clemson legacy, recently transferred from Western Kentucky and joins Cannarella in earning All-American recognition for the 2024 season. calls Kilby 'one of the more polished high school bats' with second-round potential if he's signable. Cannarella is praised for his elite bat-to-ball skills, though there are questions about his power and swing discipline. Wideman is described as a highly athletic, toolsy outfielder, but scouts have concerns about his approach and contact quality. Last year, three Clemson-affiliated players attended the combine—two (Will Taylor and Austin Gordon) were drafted, while two signees enrolled at Clemson. The MLB Draft Combine includes medical evaluations, interviews with club executives, and media opportunities. MLB Network will begin live coverage at noon Tuesday. This year's MLB Draft is scheduled for July 13–14 during All-Star Week in Atlanta. Alabama pitcher Riley Quick gets new MLB draft projection

Alabama pitcher Riley Quick gets new MLB draft projection The 2025 MLB Draft is set for July 13-14 during All-Star Week festivities in Atlanta, and the Alabama Crimson Tide have a player who could be taken in the first round for the second year in a row. Right-hander Riley Quick has been on several MLB mock drafts this year and recently concluded a solid season as a redshirt sophomore for an Alabama team that won 40 games in the regular season for the first time since 2002. Quick made 14 starts in 2025, going 8-3 with a 3.92 ERA over 62 innings for coach Rob Vaughn's team. He started the year 5-0 before suffering his first loss on March 21 against Tennessee and had 70 strikeouts to 24 walks this past season for a combined 1.387 WHIP. Over the weekend, veteran baseball analyst Jim Callis of published his updated 2025 MLB mock draft. Callis has Quick going to the Seattle Mariners with the No. 35 overall selection as a supplemental first-round pick. An earlier mock draft by USA TODAY Sports back on May 7 had Quick going at No. 28 overall to the Kansas City Royals. Quick was the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in 2022 as a senior for Hewitt-Trussville High School. He made his first appearance for the Crimson Tide in 2023, appearing in 16 games and going 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 22 innings in relief. He missed most of 2024 due to season-ending elbow surgery. Alabama has had seven players taken in the first round of an MLB draft dating back to 1966. Last year, the New York Yankees selected right-hander Ben Hess with the 26th overall pick. Hess became the first Crimson Tide player selected in the first round since the Marlins took left-hander Taylor Tankersley 27th overall in 2004. The first round of the 2025 MLB draft will be televised on ESPN, with subsequent rounds broadcast and streamed on MLB Network. The draft will feature 20 rounds over two days.

Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella gets new 2025 MLB draft projection

Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella gets new 2025 MLB draft projection The 2025 MLB Draft is set for July 13-14 during All-Star Week festivities in Atlanta, and Clemson baseball has its own star hoping to hear his name called on day one. That player, of course, is outfielder Cam Cannarella, who put together a terrific season as a junior. Cannarella hit .353 overall with five home runs and 22 doubles, posting an on-base percentage of .479 in 61 games. He closed the year with a 22-game hitting streak and went 8-for-14 in the Clemson Regional of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with two home runs and two doubles in his final college showcase. Over the weekend, veteran baseball analyst Jim Callis of published his updated 2025 MLB mock draft. Callis has Cannarella going to the New York Mets with the No. 38 overall selection as a supplemental first-round pick. A recent mock draft last week by USA TODAY Sports had Cannarella going slightly higher at No. 30 overall to the Baltimore Orioles. In three years at Clemson for coach Erik Bakich, Cannarella batted .360 with 23 home runs, 54 doubles and a combined 1.004 OPS. In the field, he made a memorable Willie Mays-styled catch in the 2023 Clemson Super Regional in front of a national audience watching on ESPN. Clemson has had 20 players taken in the first round of an MLB draft dating back to 1968. Infielder Logan Davidson was the last Tigers player selected in the first round and was the No. 29 overall by the Athletics in 2019. The first round of the 2025 MLB draft will be televised on ESPN, with subsequent rounds broadcast and streamed on MLB Network. The draft will feature 20 rounds over two days. Four Florida baseball players invited to 2025 MLB draft combine

Four Florida baseball players invited to 2025 MLB draft combine Florida right-handed pitcher Jake Clemente, left-handed pitcher Pierce Coppola, catcher Brody Donay and shortstop Colby Shelton accepted invites to the 2025 MLB draft combine this week. The fifth annual combine "will take place from June 17-21 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, for a third consecutive year," according to MLB. "The Combine will feature 322 Draft prospects, including 180 collegiate players and 142 high school athletes, as well as a decorated group of former Major League players and coaches, members of Club baseball operations departments, scouting directors and other Club personnel." Shelton is the scout's favorite of the group. The junior shortstop improved his decision-making at the plate a ton this year, albeit at the expense of his power stroke. Still, scouts are going to be high on him if he flashes the kind of exit velocities they want to see. Donay has the kind of raw power that warrants a closer look, and Coppola has always had the stuff and projectable frame to turn heads. The former has consistency questions after struggling against higher-level arms, and the latter has been injured more than he's been healthy while at Florida. Clemente is perhaps the most interesting prospect of the four. He made a name for himself on the Cape last summer, but the numbers didn't translate as Florida's third starter. A move to the bullpen suited Clemente perfectly, and he became a three-inning guy to close out big games. What makes Clemente so interesting isn't the mid-to-high 90s fastball or wipeout slider; it is the fact that he is a redshirt sophomore and has two years of eligibility left. With plenty of leverage in negotiations, Clemente can find out where teams value him and how to move up if it's not where he wants it. It's the same thing Shelton did last year, and it gives the player a direct line to MLB scouts and front offices. Shelton attended the combine a year ago as a draft-eligible sophomore, alongside right-hander Brandon Neely, who went in the third round. In 2023, the eventual fourth overall pick, outfielder Wyatt Langford, shortstop Josh Rivera and right-hander Brandon Sproat attended. Both Rivera and Sproat heard their names called in the third round. First-rounder Sterlin Thompson was the only Gator at the 2022 event. MLB Draft Combine Schedule The 2025 MLB draft presented by Nike is planned for July 13-14 during All-Star Week in Atlanta. The draft will feature 20 rounds across the two days. The opening night of the draft, which will feature 105 picks in total, will include the first three rounds, compensatory rounds, competitive balance rounds and prospect promotion incentive rounds at the Coca-Cola Roxy in The Battery Atlanta. Players will do on-field workouts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on the first day. Some of that action will air on the MLB Network, and the high schoolers will play a non-televised game in the evening. Workouts are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET on Day 2, and the final day of the combine is strength and conditioning from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
