American Influencers Discover Egypt's Rich Heritage, Tourist Diversity
Ali abo deshish A group of American bloggers and social media influencers has completed a familiarization trip across Egypt, exploring its cultural treasures and natural beauty. Organized by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities through the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, the initiative aimed to promote Egypt as a prime travel destination through social media engagement and digital storytelling. During their journey, the influencers visited some of Egypt's most iconic sites. In Cairo and Giza, they explored the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. In Luxor, the group toured Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, and the Valley of the Kings, gaining a deeper understanding of the country's ancient legacy. The final leg of their visit took them to Hurghada, where they enjoyed Egypt's vibrant marine life, clear waters, and various recreational and adventure activities along the Red Sea coast. Ahmed Youssef, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Strategic Affairs and acting CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, stated that the trip is part of a broader strategy to diversify marketing tools and reach wider global audiences through social media, especially among younger travelers. Egypt's Foreign Ministry Hands Over Recovered Artifacts from France to Tourism Ministry
Ali abo deshish The Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed a group of recovered Egyptian antiquities to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. These items, dating to the Late Period, were recently returned from France. The recovered objects include a limestone votive coffin, a limestone statue of a man, a wooden statue of the god Anubis in jackal form, two detached wooden hands from colored coffins, three rare royal-sealed papyrus scrolls, and a cylindrical container bearing hieroglyphic inscriptions. The Egyptian Embassy in Paris retrieved the pieces in cooperation with French authorities, after foiling an attempt to sell them illegally. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty attended the handover ceremony held at the embassy in February. Egypt also joined the case as a civil plaintiff in French court proceedings, which ended with the conviction of the traffickers and a compensation ruling in Egypt's favor worth €23,000. This marks the third time in May that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has returned stolen artifacts to the Tourism Ministry. Ancient Coptic-Era Building Unearthed in Upper Egyp
Ali abo deshish - Ahmed Emam An Egyptian archaeological mission has uncovered a mudbrick structure dating back to the 6th–7th century AD in the Monqabad area of Asyut, shedding new light on early Coptic heritage. The discovery was made as part of ongoing excavations supported by Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, under the directives of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy. According to Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Council, the building is coated with white plaster and consists of two levels. Inside, archaeologists found a series of rare and significant Coptic wall paintings. One of the murals features repeated eye motifs with a central face — an artistic representation associated with spiritual insight, wisdom, and pastoral awareness in Coptic symbolism. Another mural depicts a man, likely Saint Joseph, carrying a child believed to be Jesus Christ, flanked by the apostles and Coptic inscriptions on either side. Dr. Gamal Mostafa, Head of the Islamic, Coptic, and Jewish Antiquities Sector, said the upper level of the structure includes three parallel halls and two rooms. A staircase leads to the lower level, where archaeologists uncovered three monastic-style cells and two living chambers. Among the artifacts discovered were pottery and stone items, including a Coptic-inscribed tombstone identifying a saint and the date of his death, amphorae marked with Coptic letters, and a stone frieze featuring animal motifs — including a deer and a lion. Several multi-purpose pottery vessels were also found. Excavations and research are ongoing, particularly focused on understanding the building's original function and cultural significance. Mahmoud Mohamed, Director of the East Asyut Department for Islamic, Coptic, and Jewish Antiquities, noted that the site of Monqabad lies approximately 12 kilometers northwest of Asyut city and 22 kilometers from Asyut International Airport. The area was first identified in 1965, with intermittent excavations beginning in 1976. The latest season, led by an Egyptian team, resumed in 2024.
