A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Thursday made clear his excitement with the prospect of Nico Williams arriving at the club. The player in question? Alejandro Balde. Advertisement The name of wide-man Nico has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya's capital across the day to date. This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old has agreed on the personal terms of a contract with Hansi Flick's Barcelona. The brother of Barcelona star Alejandro Balde has on Monday taken to social media, to provide his response to the latest Spanish national team squad announcement. This comes after Balde was left out once again by La Roja boss Luis de la Fuente. Spain are primed to return to competitive action early next month, in a highly-anticipated Nations League semi-final meeting with Didier Deschamps' France. Ahead of what is expected to be a challenging outing for the reigning European champions, the aforementioned De la Fuente and his staff therefore unveiled a strong panel of players earlier today. Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski, Alejandro Balde not fit to start El Clasico
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick says striker Robert Lewandowski and full-back Alejandro Balde are not fit enough to start against Real Madrid in their La Liga clash on Sunday. Lewandowski made his return after a four-match absence due to a hamstring injury as he played in extra time of Barcelona's 4-3 (7-6 aggregate) Champions League semi-final defeat by Inter. Balde, meanwhile, has also missed Barcelona's last seven matches with a hamstring issue. Advertisement 'I don't think they are ready to play as starters yet,' Flick said at a news conference on Saturday. 'Ferran Torres is doing really well as a nine, all players are. I think they are both ready to have minutes as the game goes on.' Marc-Andre ter Stegen started Barcelona's 2-1 victory against Real Valladolid last weekend on his return after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury kept the Germany international out since September. Wojciech Szczesny, who came out of retirement to sign for the club in Ter Stegen's absence, returned in goal against Inter on Tuesday.
