Aldi announces where it wants to open new supermarkets

Aldi has announced a list of locations where it wants to open new supermarkets after asking for input from customers. The firm asked the public in May to nominate new locations for potential new stores after previously publishing a wishlist of new locations in London. Aldi has now analysed thousands of email responses, the firm said, and come up with a new list of locations it wants to open new stores. Each new plot will need to have space for a 20,000 square feet store and around 100 parking spaces. It should ideally be on a main road and be clearly visible. The supermarket currently has 1,050 UK stores and is looking to grow this number to 1,500. Bosses intend to invest £650 million in expansion in the UK in 2025 alone. Use MailOnline's interactive tool to see if one is in your area. In London, Aldi is looking to expand in Ealing, Bromley and South Croydon. Other locations where store space is sought include Warwick, Kirkby in Merseyside, Braintree in Essex and South Shields in Tyne and Wear. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: 'We want to make high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, and that means opening new stores in the communities that need them most. 'The response from the public has been invaluable in helping us identify where demand is greatest, and where we need to focus our efforts on finding the sites that can become new stores.'

Coffee drinkers praise 'amazing' £23 Aldi item 'ideal for hotels'

Aldi has impressed coffee drinkers with a £22.99 item that enables you to "make exceptional espresso wherever you are." The supermarket is stocking an Adventuridge Portable Coffee Maker that's said to be "perfect for travel, camping, or on-the-go use." The travel item is one of the retailer's SpecialBuy items, meaning it is only available while stock lasts. Based on social media reactions, the portable coffee maker could prove popular. The item received lots of attention when it was showcased in a Facebook post shared by Aldi UK. The caption said: "No coffee shop, no problem. This is the perfect solution for those caffeine hits NEEDED after a sleepless night in a tent. Pick yours up in store now - perfect for everything from camping trips to office days." While some commenters had mixed views about the item, lots of viewers praised the idea. Someone replied: "These are amazing. Ideal for hotels too when you only get instant coffee and a kettle. I use one with a little pot of espresso on my travels." A coffee fan said: "I've got one of the Nanopresso (same design) and if you know how to use it, they make excellent coffees (from Espressos, Americanos and every other coffee type)." Another viewer wrote: "Be good for some footy." Another response read: "I'll need this when we go camping." Someone else told their colleague: "We should get this for work." Meanwhile, another excited shopper said: "Bother, now I have to go to Aldi and I just got comfy." However, not everyone was blown away, with one social media user saying: "Just have a simple flask!!!!" Someone else wrote: "What's wrong with a kettle, a small stove, a cafetiere and a mug when camping? "Similar to being in an office and you get much more bang for your buck." A commenter added: "My travel mug keeps my coffee hot for hours. I don't need one of these." For those who are interested in the portable coffee maker, a full product description is available on Aldi's website. It states: "Enjoy your favourite espresso without the need for batteries or cords with our easy-to-use manual espresso maker. It's perfect for travel, camping, or on-the-go use - giving you the freedom to make exceptional espresso wherever you are." The description says that the "lightweight" coffee maker "works with any type of ground coffee, so you can customise your espresso to your liking" and that it "does not require compressed air or electricity." It's also said that its "compact size makes it a great travel companion, fitting easily into your bag or backpack." The coffee maker has a 1.5L capacity, and it comes with a one-year warranty. Product images are available to view on the website. Shoppers can locate their nearest Aldi store here.

Budget shoppers eagerly waiting for an Aldi to pitch up in their neighbourhood have a reason to get excited. That's because the discount supermarket has revealed its list of priority locations where it wants to open new stores. Aldi is already the UK's fourth-largest supermarket with more than 1,050 shops nationwide, but now it hopes to bring its wares to new areas like Witney in Oxfordshire and Balby in Doncaster. 'I tested the best Champagne in the world and couldn't believe the price'

The best Champagne in the world probably comes with a huge price tag, right? The finer things in life always seem to be expensive, and you usually get what you pay for. But sometimes, apparently, that just isn't the case, and you can get world-class luxury wine without breaking the bank at all. So, if I told you that the best Champagne in the world is from Aldi and costs a mere £15, you'd probably laugh. But I'm being completely serious. Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut has been named World's Best Champagne at the prestigious World Champagne Awards 2025, outshining luxury rival G.H. Martel Honoré de Balzac Edition Limitée, which retails for almost £50. And if that doesn't have you running to your local store, I don't know what will. When I found out that the best Champagne in the world was not only affordable but could be picked up at my local supermarket, I was sold. Although £15 is the top end of what I'd usually pay for a supermarket Prosecco, to have the luxury of a Champagne for that price feels super decadent. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed with the taste. The Champagne is crafted from a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, and matured in cellars to enhance its complexity and length, and as a result, it is sweet, easy to drink, and delicious. As a usual Prosecco drinker, I've turned my nose up at Champagnes in the past, even opting to slyly pour vintage Moet away at parties (please don't judge me) because I'm just not fond of the taste. But the world's best Champagne has possibly converted me - provided that I can drink just the £15 bottles, rather than ones that cost in excess of £100. Aldi shared that the Champagne is known for its aromas of ripe apple, soft red fruit, and delicate florals - a testament to expert winemaking without the premium price tag. This is a statement I can back, because the Champagne is the most delicious I've ever tasted. It was sweet, delicious, and didn't give that acid-reflux feeling that a lot of Champagnes tend to, which was a huge bonus. In fact, I'd say it went down almost too easily! I poured my dad a glass and asked him to guess how much the best Champagne in the world costs. He guessed a whopping £200 a bottle, so I feel like Aldi should be really proud of themselves. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: "To have our £14.95 Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut recognised as the best in the world is proof that exceptional quality doesn't have to come with an eye-watering price tag. "It's a proud moment not just for Aldi, but for our customers who can enjoy world-class champagne without breaking the bank."

More info What springs to mind when you think about the best Champagne in the world? You likely think of a hefty price tag and purchasing it from somewhere seriously fancy where you'd seldom frequent. While the bubbly is a gorgeous celebratory drink, many are priced out of its luxury thanks to the eye-watering amount many bottles cost. So, what if I told you that the best Champagne in the world actually doesn't have a huge price tag? In fact, it can be found at your nearest Aldi supermarket for just £15. You'd likely laugh at me.
