EastEnders fans in mourning as it's revealed show icon has died after eight years on show

EASTENDERS fans are mourning as it's revealed a show icon has died after eight years on-air. Terence, the Lhasa Apso dog who appeared on the soap from 2001 to 2009, has passed away, his owner has confirmed. 4 The news was confirmed in a Reddit comment by the user, who also supplied the iconic EastEnders dog Wellard. Announcing the news, they said: 'My dog who played Terence last worked on the show in 2009, though another dog from a different company played the role for a few more episodes. "Afraid Terence and Wellard, who I also supplied, are unfortunately long gone now. They are never with us long enough.' Terence made his first appearance on 29 October 2001 when Billy Mitchell gave the dog to Janine Butcher as a gift for her 18th birthday. Known as the 'glam dog' of Albert Square, Terence was often seen accompanying Janine and featured in key scenes - including moments with Archie Mitchell and Ricky Butcher during their final episodes in December 2009. In response to the post, one fan wrote: "I'm so glad they lived such a full life full of love." The most recent real-life death of an EastEnders star was Kathryn Apanowicz, who passed away at age 64 on March 12 after a prolonged illness. She was known for her role as Magda Czajkowski - a café caterer involved with "Dirty" Den Watts - during the late 1980s to early 1990s Before her, the next passing was Arnold Yarrow, who died on December 9, aged 104. EastEnders fans rage about 'continuous blunder' on soap as they beg bosses 'sort it out' - did you spot it? He was remembered for his role as Benny Bloom in the BBC soap and for writing several episodes of the show. 4 4 4

EastEnders star engaged as she shows off dazzling diamond ring

An EastEnders star has announced the exciting news of her romantic proposal, as Gurlaine Kaur Garcha, who played Ash Panesar on the BBC One soap, showed off her diamond ring EastEnders star Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has revealed she is engaged after a romantic proposal in Ibiza. Former EastEnders star Gurlaine has revealed she's engaged after her partner popped the question on a dreamy Ibiza getaway. The 31-year-old actress, who played Ash Panesar in the BBC soap, shared the happy news with fans on Instagram, flashing a huge diamond ring while sipping a cocktail abroad. ‌ 'v happy & v engaged!!!!!!' she wrote, keeping the caption short and sweet. Although Gurlaine's kept her partner's identity private, she confirmed the romantic proposal took place while on holiday in Ibiza. ‌ Her EastEnders co-stars were quick to show their love with her on-screen mum Balvinder Sopal, who plays Suki Panesar, commenting: 'Oh my days!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS BABY ' Gurlaine made her debut in Albert Square back in 2019 as Ash; a confident, no-nonsense doctor who immediately made an impression. She arrived as the first member of the Panesar clan, with her brothers and mum Suki introduced shortly after. Her character quickly became a key figure in several dramatic storylines from tense family fallouts and fractured relationships to fast-paced scenes at the hospital. She was also part of a same-sex romance with Iqra, making Ash one of the few LGBTQ+ South Asian characters in soap at the time. Ash wasn't afraid to speak her mind, often clashing with her mum Suki, whose controlling nature added even more fuel to their fiery dynamic. Her arrival was also seen as a big moment for representation, with viewers praising EastEnders for spotlighting a British Sikh woman in a lead medical role – something rarely seen on mainstream TV. ‌ Gurlaine took a short break from the show in 2022 before officially bowing out in early 2023. At the time, soap bosses thanked her for her contribution, while the actress told fans she was 'excited for what's to come'. Since then, Gurlaine's kept a low profile but still shares snippets of her life online - posting travel pictures, moments with friends, and positive messages with her followers. And while she's stayed off-screen for now, fans will no doubt be thrilled to see her celebrating such a personal milestone.

BBC EastEnders fans annoyed as characters gone for weeks

The BBC soap has been making headlines this week with the return of Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) heading back to Walford after 20 years. But some viewers have been discussing their thoughts about other recent storylines around Albert Square. EastEnders fans 'annoyed' over 'disappearing' characters Slaters, bickering, and Alfie caught slap bang in the middle. Welcome back Zoe! #EastEnders tonight at 7:30pm on @BBCOne and on @BBCiPlayer — BBC EastEnders (@bbceastenders) June 17, 2025 It comes as someone asked on Reddit: 'Why does EE keep doing this a storyline starts heating up and then next episode the characters are just gone for weeks.' They added: 'Just recently we've had the Lauren, Peter and Jimmy storyline, which was heating up, just for them to not be shown in around 2-3 weeks. 'The same with Zack and Barney and also Jean finding out about Kathy and Harvey, just for her to be randomly gone in the next episode, and there's more that I've not mentioned. 'Am I the only one that gets annoyed with how they are doing it?' This person replied to the r/eastenders subreddit post: 'I'm always surprised when they return because it's been so long.. 'oh yes! This story'. Emmerdale is doing it too.' EastEnders' Top 5 Villains A third wrote: 'This has always annoyed me. I assume it's to keep everyone on the edge of their seat and keep them watching to see the end of the story I guess to keep viewership up.' Some argued it was due to the style of ex-executive producer Chris Clenshaw and hope new boss Ben Wadey 'puts a stop to it', while others said it was simply due to the format of 'block storytelling' and is something most soaps do, and have done for years. As one viewer shared: 'Block storytelling? Deffo not a Clenshaw thing - it's been going on for years (to some degree or another) and it'll only stay that way whilst we have such a big cast lol.' Another agreed: 'Nope. That's the nature of soaps. They can't have the same characters on all the time. I'm sure you can find something else to worry about.' Recommended reading: However, it seems Reddit profiles were also in favour of the move, as they explained: 'I prefer the block storytelling to be honest. 'I think it keeps it fresh by telling stories properly instead of churning them out half baked Coronation Street style.' Have you been "annoyed" by EastEnders characters "disappearing" recently during big storylines, or do you agree it's just the way British soaps work? Let us know in the comments below.

It comes after the 30-year-old was suspended following The Sun on Sunday's revelation last weekend that he blurted out the hurtful term 'm********s' while on the Strictly Come Dancing set. Jamie used the offensive phrase to pour scorn on Blackpool, which is seen as the jewel in each series of the BBC's prime-time family show. As part of his bid to save his acting career, he this week sent a heartfelt message to a former partner, conceding it was 'not clear' if he'd be returning to EastEnders. But he told how the circumstances had given him time to reflect on 'decisions that have led me here'. Jamie said: 'I accept the karma that has come my way due to some bad choices.' He went on to say he is 'attempting to right the wrongs in my life', and 'want to sincerely apologise for the mistakes I made and for hurting you and how I handled the whole situation'. And he added: 'Had I the opportunity to turn the clock back I would do so and do everything differently.' The Sun told how Jamie issued the vile video while standing alongside GoCompare opera singer Wynne Evans. Moment Jamie Borthwick is seen waving up at Jordan in the audience The duo were in Blackpool for week nine of the Strictly TV series show in November last year when Jamie sent the obscene footage to a pal. The EastEnders star, who joined the soap in 2006, said in a public apology: 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. 'It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong. 'When I made the video, I was excited and caught up in the moment. Again, that is no excuse. But my regrettable actions are not a true reflection of my views, or who I am. 'I enjoyed every minute of my time in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and the town itself. "The people of Blackpool have always been amazing with the Strictly crew, dancers and cast members. I know they will be again for this year's show and those in years to come. I am truly sorry.' The BBC said his language was 'entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect'. Disability charity Scope said Borthwick should reflect on what he said and educate himself. "We hope he takes the opportunity to get to know the reality of disabled people's lives,' said the organisation's media manager Warren Kirwan. In April, The Sun told how Jamie and Wynne were rapped by BBC bosses for sharing a backstage joke over a sex toy video when the Strictly tour was in Birmingham. A source told us last night: "Jamie has been reaching out to people off his own back and trying to sort his life out once and for all. He is genuinely remorseful. He's a young man with his acting career stretching out ahead of him. "He will be forced to stay at home for a while and acknowledge his misdemeanours. A lesson is being learned. But it's good news for fans that there is a good chance that we haven't seen the last of Jamie in Albert Square." 5 Jamie said 'I accept the karma that has come my way due to some bad choices" Credit: Simon Jones
